Have a browse of similar websites to see how other businesses advertise their wares for inspiration.

Things To Know Before Starting With The Process
If you recently changed the domains contact information, you must ensure that youve got an unlocked domain. After changing the domain contact information, you can lock the domain for around 60 days and prevent any transfers. Before you change contact information, you should ask the provider whether it locks the domain or not.
You must review all transfer requirements when you transfer to a country code top-level domain like .com, .uk, or .au. You can visit the Domain TLD list for further information.
When your domain has a domain name System Security Extension record, you must delete it before initiating the transfer process. Due to these records, the process to transfer the domain to Squarespace can fail.
Should I Transfer My Domain To Squarespace
It might be worth it to transfer your domain to Squarespace if you want the convenience of managing your website and domains from one platform.
But there are a few things to consider before making the switch.
For starters, Squarespace is a closed-source hosted platform. This can be a good or bad thing, depending on your needs and preferences.
On the plus side, this means you dont have to worry about setting up or maintaining web hosting, configuring DNS records, installing updates, or backing up your site.
However, if you ever want to move your site off Squarespace youll need to go through all the trouble again of transferring your domain.

My Domain Is About To Expire Can I Still Transfer It
Usually, you can still transfer an expired domain if it’s within the expiration grace period, which is usually 30 days after expiration.
If your domain is expired or might expire during the transfer, we recommend contacting your current domain provider and asking if it’s safe to transfer before you start the process.
Manual Squarespace To Shopify Migration
And since basic copying-and-pasting is not particularly advisable, you might have to export the data from Squarespace, repackage it accordingly, and then paste the entities into your Shopify store.
Certainly not an easy thing to do, especially if youre not technically skilled. Only well-experienced web developers who know their way around Shopify and Squarespace can comfortably transfer the data manually.
But, get this. Even if you happen to possess the skills, the procedure itself is anything but simple. You have to dive deep into your Squarespace database and intricately map out each store entity into its rightful position on the corresponding Shopify platform.
That could take an entire day. And possibly more if youre dealing with a large online store.
Then to matters worse, its arguably the riskiest method to migrate Squarespace to Shopify. The chances of committing potentially detrimental errors are very high.
So, you might want to countercheck every piece of data before importing and after exporting.

Start Using The New Nameservers Before Transferring The Domain Name
When youre sure youve copied the DNS settings properly, you should switch to using the new nameservers .
This is important to avoid downtime after you transfer the name. Squarespace gets rid of the domain names nameservers soon after the transfer is completed . If you havent specified new nameservers for the domain name in that time, the site wont resolve and any email addresses using that domain name wont work. .
Log back into Squarespace, go to the Domains section, and click on your domain. There should be a button that allows you to modify the nameservers. Change these to the nameservers specified by your registrar .
The change is not instantaneous and could take a day to migrate. Do a whois on the domain name to verify when its done.
After you verify the nameservers have changed, verify that email is working as well .

The Difference Between Connecting And Transferring A Domain
Choosing to connect a domain purchased elsewhere to your new website means that you continue to pay your domain registrar for domain renewals. If you have email services through your domain registrar, you continue to use that service. You pay Squarespace or Weebly only for a website hosting plan. You work with two companies to keep your website active one keeps the domain and email active and the other, Squarespace or Weebly, keeps the website files active.
Transferring a domain moves responsibility for the domain from the original domain registrar to Squarespace or Weebly. Both your website files and your domain are managed by one company, but you will have to establish a new email account through the integrated Google G Suite plan provided by Squarespace or Weebly.

Think about the kind of website you want to build with your domain. If youre launching an online store for an existing business, choose a domain name that will help customers find your website. Start by searching for a domain name that matches the name of your business. Ideally, your domain name and your business name will be the same or similar.
If youre launching a resume website or creative portfolio, your domain can be your full name or nickname. You might want to consider including your middle initial, to distinguish your website from anyone else who shares your name.
If youre creating a blog or other personal website, you might be migrating an existing audience from a social media platform or an email list. Align your domain name with the channel people already follow you on. This could look like choosing a domain name that matches your Instagram handle, or that references the name of your email newsletter.
No matter what kind of website youre launching, youll want to consider how your domain name will impact other arms of your online presence. For example, if you plan to set up an email for your business, your domain will be a prominent part of your email address.
