How To Point A Domain

How to Point Domain Name to Web Hosting

You will need to know your default A Records before editing. The records can be found and edited in your Afrihost ClientZone.

In the event that your domain is registered with Afrihost but is hosted elsewhere, you will need to edit the A records and MX records .

This rule applies vice versa eg: Host-Afrihost, Domain-External.

Kindly request and supply the records provided by your host company.

  • Select your Domain Name on the Right.
  • Select Hosting Settings.
  • Browse through the records and edit the desired Records as indicated/supplied by your external host.
  • You will need to know the type of record, Content IP, and TTL .
  • Select Update.
  • Kindly note that Afrihost does not have influence over external Records.

If the specified record information is not correct, your domain and mail function will be affected.

Enter The Name Servers Into Your Registrar’s Settings For Your Domain

Once you have the list of name servers, go to your domain nameregistrar and log into their system. You will obviously need the login name and password that you created when you first registered your domain.

Once logged in, you will need to look for some option to either set your domain’s name servers or change them. Every registrar has adifferent way of doing this, and there is no standard method, so it’s not possible for me to give you a detailed blow-by-blow account ofhow to get to the appropriate screen. What I’ll do instead is give you some idea of what to look for.

In general, try the following to get to the page on your registrar’s site that lets you modify the name servers:

  • Find a way to list all your domains in the registrar’s site. Sometimes this can be found in a “My Domains” page, or a “Domain Manager” page,or something similarly named.

  • Select the domains for which you want to set the name servers. Sometimes this involves putting a tick into a boxbeside your domain name in the list of names. Alternatively, if you only have one domain name, you may even beable to click the domain name to get to the settings screen.

  • Once you manage to find the correct page to change your name servers, you will probably see a form that lets you enter thingslike your “Primary Name Server”, “Secondary Name Server”, “Tertiary Name Server” and maybe even more . The exact words used may not be the same, but it should mean basically your first name server, second name server, andso on.

You Already Have A Web Hosting Account

A web host is basically a company that has specially configured computers that are permanently connected to the Internet. They allow you toplace your website on their system so that it can be viewed by otherson the Internet.

If you don’t have a web host, you’ll need to sign up for one before you can point your domain anywhere. For this article to be relevant, your web host must allow you to use your own domain name for your site, which is the case for allcommercial web hosts .

What You Will Need To Point Your Domain To Your Website

How To Point A Domain Name To Site Nestify Knowledgebase

To get started, you will need to do the following two things:

  • Register Your Domain Name. Once you have decided on the domain name that you want, you will need to check that it is available and then register it. Where you register your domain doesnt really matter I always advise going with the company who offers the best price. Providers that I have used in the past include 123-reg.co.uk, fasthosts.co.uk and krystal.co.uk. They have always been affordable and all have easy-to-use dashboards where you can manage various aspects of your domain easily. This isnt saying that these guys are the best. These are just providers I can personally recommend, based on my own experience. So, it is always worth hunting around yourself to get the best deal.
  • Purchase Your Website Hosting. Once you have your domain name, you then need to purchase the hosting. A little more thought needs to go into choosing a website host, as it will depend on what your site and business needs, rather than just basing the decision on price alone. We understand that most customers will not understand the technicalities of hosting accounts, so always make sure you ask questions before choosing what is right for you.

Connect Your Landing Page To A Different Domain With Domain Mapping

The next step is to connect your landing page to a custom domain name. To do this, click the Page Settings tab at the top of your screen.

Here, you can configure your General, SEO, Analytics, and Scripts settings by clicking each option.

The most important setting for this tutorial is the Custom Domain option. This allows you to point your WordPress landing page to a different domain name.

So, go ahead and click the Custom Domain tab to see the WordPress domain mapping settings.

First, turn the Custom Domain toggle from Off to On. Then, in the Domain Name field, enter the domain youd like to point your landing page to.

If you have an SSL certificate installed on the domain you wish to point your page to, you can use the Force HTTPS option. This redirects visitors to the secure HTTPS version of your domain instead of HTTP.

Now click Save to preserve your changes.

    Before You Get Started

    • To connect your domain, you will need to update your DNS records. Ensure you have the login details for your DNS provider and have access to the CNAME records.
    • If you’re moving a live website to HubSpot, review the domain verification process if you want to pre-provision SSL for the domain.
    • If you’re keeping part of your website outside of HubSpot, do not connect that subdomain to HubSpot. For example, if your main website is hosted on WordPress at info.mywebsite.com, you should not connect your info subdomain to HubSpot. Doing so will take down your external content.

How To Point A Domain Name To Hostinger

Pointing Your Domain to Your Web Host

    Hostingers nameservers are:

    ns1.dns-parking.comns2.dns-parking.com

There are two main ways to point a domain name to Hostinger:

    • Changing the nameservers at your domain name registrar. This method is recommended since your DNS zone will be automatically configured to match the hostings IP Address. Plus, it enables you to transfer the control of your domain settings to our hPanel, making management convenient.
    • Pointing the domain name via A record. This method requires you to change the IP address connected to the DNS records. That way, your domain control stays in the registrar. Unless youre sure the IP address is going to be static, this procedure is not recommended.

This guide shows how to point a domain name if its NOT registered with Hostinger. For a general tutorial on pointing a domain name to another provider, check out our tutorial on how to change domain nameservers.

For example, themain domain for this site is thesitewizard.com. If you were to type the “.net” variant, you will be redirected tomy “.com” version that is, you’ll end up at a web address beginning with “https://www.thesitewizard.com/”.

Now, because there are a few different combinations of domain name registrars and web hosting companies, I can’t cover every possible scenario. But what I’ll do below is provide information for pointing a domain name registered with NameCheap to a few different web hosts

For simplicity, I’ll assume that you’ve already registered your business domain name with NameCheap.

These steps will be very similar for other domain registrars, too. You can often do a quick Google search to find the steps needed for your specific combination of registrar and web host. I’ll provide some examples below, and if you need further assistance, you can always contact your domain name registrar. They’re there to help!

How To Point A Domain To Another Subdomain

I’m really a newbie about this issues so excuse me if this is a rather dumb question, I’m trying to point a domain a client of mine bought to a sub-domain of mine, they’re both from different companies, I’m not looking for a redirect but instead let’s say his domain is www.clientdomain.com and mine is www.mydoamin.com I need to point dev.clientdomain.com to test.mydomain.com for example keeping the URL as it is, so when I visit the ‘about’ page it’d be dev.clientdomain.com/about instead of test.mydomain.com/about.

I hope it makes some sense, I have seen this done before but have no idea if its using .htaccess files or changing some configuration options in the host control panel, if so I assume each host has their way of doing this so a general example would be great to point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance!
