Add Dns Records With Your Domain Provider
These are the DNS records you need to add to make the custom URL point to your personal Google Site:
Add a TXT record with a name/host/subdomain of and the value/data/target use the text string copied from Google Search Console mentioned above
Add a CNAME record with a name/host/subdomain of www that points to ghs.googlehosted.com.
If your domain provider lets you redirect your naked domain to the subdomain address then configure that
If you use Google Domains you can use its Synthetic records to get both your http:// and https:// top-level domain redirected as demonstrated in our full-screen video at 6:40.
If you want both your http and your https top=level/naked domain to redirect to your www address then you can use NakedSSL free of charge for one domain.
Alternatively add an A record of that points to 174.129.25.170
Once the top-level domain is verified you can then add a subdomain of your domain as a custom URL to your new Google Site: follow the steps below to make this custom URL web address mapping.

Issues And Resolutions For Your Custom Domain
There are a number of other reasons your custom domain may not link properly to your site. Try the following fixes to get it working.
- Give the CNAME entry youve made a day or two to take effect. If this doesnt work, move on to the next fix.
- Double check the URL you entered in the wizard for your custom domain name and ensure that it actually matches your registered domain, without any typos. Make sure to include www in the URL.
- Make sure you havent already registered your domain with any like Blogger or the previous version of Google Sites .
- If youre trying to map more than 20 URLs, it wont work. You are limited to mapping 20 custom domains to your Google Site page.
Now that youve pointed your domain to your Google Sites website, your visitors can visit your site using a typical customized URL just like any other regular website on the internet.

How To Enable The Ssl Certificate
When the CNAME or A-type records have been approved, the process of enabling SSL will automatically begin. You can find the status of your SSL in the SSL column. The process of fully enabling the SSL certificate may take a few hours.
Note: If the SSL has not been enabled after several hours and it is stuck with Enabling SSL, check if the DNS page of your domain has an AAAA type record. This type of record pointing to another server will prevent the SSL from being enabled, so it must be removed.

Some Important Notes About This Method
While the Gmail part of this method is 100% free, there are some caveats to this method in that youll need to already have email hosting to make it work. Typically, you would get this through your web host if you have a website.
For example, if you host your website with Bluehost, Bluehost also helps you create your own custom email address as part of its service .
If you dont own a domain, heres a quick tool you can use to find out if the domain name youre interested in is available:
Once you set up your email address with Bluehost, the method in this tutorial would let you use Gmail to send/receive those emails at no extra cost. Unfortunately, already having this email hosting is a basic requirement for the free method.
For both creating your website and setting up the custom email account to use with Gmail, we recommend Bluehost. Plans start at just $2.75 per month and that includes hosting your website, hosting your email account, plus a free domain name.
If you dont need a website, another option would be to purchase email hosting through your domain registrar. For example, if you registered your domain through Namecheap, Namecheap sells a cheap email hosting service starting at just $0.79 $0.46 per month.
For the rest of this tutorial, well use Bluehost for our example screenshots. However, the same basic principles will apply to any host the interface will just be a little different.
