Your domain registrar may be the same or different from your web host. Its possible to buy these services from the same company, but they are actually different services. So you may want to check with your website host to see if they can help you figure out the company you bought your domain from, or if they are your registrar as well as your DNS hosting provider or domain host.

If you are not sure who your web host is, you can find that out by examining your DNS record, specifically your nameservers. Our favorite tool for this is LeafDNS. If your nameservers are, for example, ns1.bluehost.com, then Bluehost is your web host.

Domain names can be difficult or impossible to get back if you lose them, so you want to make very sure to renew it with your current registrar before it expires. Expired domain names are often snapped up by companies who just sit on them until someone is willing to pay a hefty price to get them back.

What Would Happen To My Domains If My Domain Provider Company Bankrupted

I am thinking to transfer all my domains to one registerer so that the control will be easy.

But I am a little bit worried about the following question: what would happen to my domains if my domain provider company bankrupted?

Simply management for the domain would revert back to the central registrar such as ICANN or Nominet. You would then be able to transfer your domain to another registrar. Your ownership and use of the domain would be unaffected.

Prior to that final end, your registration contract would probably be considered an asset and sold to another registrar. An example case would be when RegisterFly went under, many of their domain registrations were sold on to godaddy.com.

    • 1The ICANN registry fallover plan is at this link icann.org/en/registries/continuity/ there is some variation depending on what TLD you use but things should keep running for 60 to 90 days giving you time to transfer.Jul 25 11 at 15:04

I think you might experience a big downtime to all your domains/sites because domain provider usually do not only register domains for you, but they also provide Name server/DNS that customer usually use through a control panel to change DNS records.Even if the domains would be transferred to ICANN and you definitely wont lose the property on them, the would need new Nameservers/DNS and I dont think its something that happens immediately, there must be some other domains provider that buy/take them.
