How To Sell A Domain Name Network Solutions

Don't Miss

Transferring From One Registrar To Another

How to Transfer a Domain from Network Solutions?

The exact steps youll need to take will vary depending on which registrar your domain is currently registered with and where the domain is being transferred to, but it will consist of these essential steps:

1. Disable WHOIS/domain privacy.

The new registrar will need to verify who owns the domain name, which wont be possible if you have WHOIS privacy enabled so make sure that privacy setting has been switched off.

2. Ensure admin email is up-to-date.

Double-check that the domains current registrar has the most up-to-date administrative email address so theyll be able to contact its owner during the transfer process. Note that changing this field can result in a 60-day transfer lock on the domain , so having an outdated admin email could delay the transfer process.

3. Unlock the domain.

The domain likely has a transfer lock applied to prevent unwanted or accidental transferring of the domain. In this case, it will need to be unlocked.

4. Get the transfer authorization code.

This is like a password that, in theory, should only be accessible by the true owner of a domain name. Some registrars may use a different term, like EPP key, secret code or auth code.

5. Request a domain transfer.

Have the new domain owner request a domain transfer. This will typically involve purchasing an additional year of registration, which will begin once all the remaining time on the domain name is used up. The authorization code from step 4 will be needed in order to request a transfer.

Misleading Customers Over Refunds

In April 2015, the Federal Trade Commission announced that Network Solutions had agreed to settle charges that it misled consumers who bought web hosting services by promising a full refund if they canceled within 30 days. In reality, the FTC stated, the company withheld substantial cancellation fees amounting to up to 30 percent of the refund.

Why You Should Never Use Network Solutions

  • Never Use VeriSign/Network Solutions
  • I wrote this a long time ago, & while Network Solutions is still a company to be avoided at all costs, I now recommend DynDNS or NameCheap for regsitering your domain names.

Folks, this is long, so let me summarize: if you register a domain name using Network Solutions , they sell your personal information to marketers who will bother you constantly.

This is yet another reason they are not a company I will never, ever do business with again. The other reason is that they have no idea of customer service. None. They make things as hard as possible on their Web site. And if you ever have to call them oh my . I spent 45 minutes with them on the phone several weeks ago, talking to two different customer rep’s, and neither would give me a straight answer to a simple question: “Did you charge our credit card a week and a half ago, and if you did, why haven’t you renewed the domain name in question? What’s holding things back?” I got the run around over and over and over again. This is a pattern with Network Solutions. They just don’t care about their customers. And this is not unique with me. Far from it. Talk to anyone who’s had to deal with them. It’s a horror show.

It’s not just me. ISPs have told me that it is incredibly difficult to make DNS updates or changes through Network Solutions.

There are other registrars you can use as well, and some are cheaper than Register.com. The list can be found on a page I’ve made about Domain Names.

Accused Of ‘front Running’ Company Says It Is Trying To Prevent The Tactic By Scammers

    Computerworld|

Domain-name registrar Network Solutions Inc. may back off its controversial new policy of automatically reserving a domain name once it has been the subject of a search on its Web site.

The registrar came under fire this week as it implemented a policy that effectively locks up any domain name that is the subject of a search on its site, preventing a customer from registering the name with another, possibly less expensive, registrar for four days. Network Solutions charges customers $34.99 to register a domain name, while GoDaddy.com Inc., for example, charges up to $9.99.

“We’re making refinements to the protection measure and there are discussions about giving people the option , but right now we’re holding it for four days,” said Network Solutions spokeswoman Susan Wade.

Earlier this week, Network Solutions instituted a policy that critics say amounts to “front running.” But Wade said the new policy is intended to prevent front running, a tactic in which scammers keep track of domain name searches and then register those domains themselves, hoping to sell them to the original searchers at outlandish prices.

Wade said Network Solutions decided on the policy to register the domain after the search so that the name won’t be registered by “some obscure person” before the original searcher comes back to register it.

Other registrars, meanwhile, were critical of Network Solutions’ policy.

Confirm The Primary Contact Or Registrant Email Is Correct For The Domain Name

You can verify the Primary Contact email address by logging into your Network Solutions account and viewing the Primary Contact email address listed under the User Profile.

If the information is incorrect, click the Edit User Profile button to modify the email address.

Once you have followed these steps, the transfer can be initiated with the gaining registrar. An email will be sent by the gaining registrar to the WHOIS Administrative Contact with instructions on approving the transfer. Once you have approved the transfer, it takes between 5 and 7 days for the transfer to complete.

The transfer may complete within 24 hours after the following takes place, assuming no delays at the registry or registrar:

    • The domain is unlocked

    • Private Registration is turned off

    • The transfer is initiated with the gaining registrar

    • The authorization code is provided to the gaining registrar

    • The **form of authorization from the new registrar is responded to

Important: If the form of authorization is not responded to, the transfer will automatically proceed after a five-day waiting period.

During this time, there can be no changes made to the Domain Name, including DNS changes. If you need to change your DNS, please make sure the changes are in effect prior to approving the transfer through the gaining registrar.

Getting Paid For Your Domain Name

Sell Your Domain Name to Real Buyers

Once you have a potential buyer interested in buying the domain name, and youve agreed on a price, youll need to get paid. Typically, if the domain name price is over $500, then I will use an escrow service to complete the transaction. There are several out there that you can use, such as Payoneer Escrow and Escrow.com. Both are reliable services. Essentially the buyer gives the money to the escrow service, the domain name is transferred to the buyer, and then they release the money to you. The escrow services have a one-time flat fee.

If you are using an auction service, such as GoDaddy, and the domain name sells, they will handle the payment for you. The buyer pays the service, and they then send you the payment after taking out their fee. The fees vary, and are typically a percentage of the sales price or a flat fee. You will have the details when you list the domain name for sale. Keep that fee in mind when you price the domain name.

Overall, selling a domain name isnt toughthe initial decision is whether or not to sell and how much to sell the domain for. Once you inventory and value your unused domain names, youll be able to turn that vacant real estate into cash.

    What Not To Do

Heres what you DONT want to do: Target prospective buyers based on their perceived economic status, without any insight into the industry youre targeting. Lawyers seem to do well, you think, maybe I should start selling names to them. So you rush out and buy a bunch of domain names you think would appeal to the law firms youve identified as potential buyers.

Without knowledge of the space, you may not know that the American Bar Association and other industry-specific organizations set rules that govern some aspects of legal advertising. Youre not going to strike gold selling names your target buyers cant use.

You can keep a domain for 10 years and still sell at a considerable profit. While you are waiting for it to sell you can monetize the domain and throw in some SEO, which in turn can justify the cost to the buyer.

Most domains end up paying for themselves so your portfolio wont really cost you any money out of pocket.

Remember to focus on the areas you know well and you will be much more successful than buying and selling domains you think would benefit someone in an industry you know little about.

Is Network Solutions Snatching Domain Names

Numerous reports confirm that Network Solutions, the well-known domain registry company, is automatically registering domain names when individuals search for a potential name using its sites search tools.

This was first reported in a forum message in DomainState, a news and discussion site for Internet site owners. In the message, a domain owner and developer who goes by the handle Stratagenix reported, Network Solutions has instituted a four-day lock on all domain names searched on their site. They are effectively using phishing techniques to hijack or steal domain names and forcing domain name registrants to register their names at Network Solutions. The standard domain name registration fee at Network Solutions is $34.99-significantly higher than the leading alternatives. I was forced to register a domain name with them today or chance losing it to another registrant.

In a follow-up story at DomainNameNews, a reporter confirmed that after using the popular whois tool on the Network Solution site to search for a domain name, they then found that the site had been registered to a private registrant, but that the domain name was still available from Network Solutions. At other domain registry sites, however, such as Dotster and GoDaddy, the domain name was unavailable.

Choose An Avenue To Sell Your Domain

How to change name servers (DNS) for network solutions ...

When selling a domain name, its wise to avoid putting all your eggs into one basket. Many sellers use domain listing sites along with person-to-person sales to sell domain names. Here is a list of reputable domain marketplaces. Afternic, BrandBucket, NameCheap and Sedo are also good marketplaces to use.

Another venue you can use is auction sites. GoDaddy Auctions is among the most popular domain auction sites around. You can also encourage buyers to contact you for more info, and then have them enter their bid on the auction site if theyre considering purchasing the domain. Many auction sites will deduct a commission from your selling price, but the peace of mind you get will always be worth the price you pay, as many auction sites have their own transaction security measures in place.

As with every other transaction, however, its also wise to do your due diligence on the buyer. Some marketplaces have a review feature. Read the seller reviews on the buyer. The reviews can give you a good idea of whether your potential buyer is trustworthy. Dont do business with anyone youre not completely sure about. Its not worth the risk.

How To Unlock Domain At Network Solutions

    Posted: Tue Feb 18, 2003 12:35 pm

Does anyone know how to unlock a domain at Network Solutions? I have a domain that is registered there, from back in the day before I realized that Network Solutions and Verisign embody all that is pure evil in the world. I would like to move the domain to a different registrar, one that I like and one that represents all that is good and heavenly in the world. I have submitted a registrar transfer request through the normal channels. I have done this successfully many times, but never with a domain that was at Network Solutions. The transfer is failing with a message that says the domain is “locked” by the current registrar . I’ve been all through NetSol’s account management system for that domain, and cannot find any option that is “unlock” or “unlock for transfer”. Over the last 4 days, I’ve submitted two requests for an explanation of the “unlocking” procedure to NetSol support. Not surprising, they’ve ignored me. Does anyone know how to “unlock” a domain at Network Solutions so that it can be transferred to another registrar??? Or am I just stuck dealing with Satan until the end of time? Thanks for any help or suggestions.
