Change Network Name In Windows 10 Via Registry Editor
Warning: before making any changes to the registry, please create a quick registry backup so that you can restore the registry as and when needed.
If you are using Windows 10 Home version, you need to use the Windows Registry to change the network name in Windows 10. Thankfully, it is quite easy to change the network name using Windows Registry.
1. To open the Windows Registry, press Win, type regedit in the blank field and press Enter on your keyboard.
2. In the registry editor, go to the following location. Windows 10 users can simply copy and paste the below path in the registry editors address bar and then press Enter to go to the target key.
3. Under the Profiles folder, you will see a few more folders with random alphanumerics. Each folder represents a network connection in your system. When you select a folder under the Profiles folder, you will see the network name on the right panel next to ProfileName. In my case, the network name Im looking for is Network 2 and that is represented in the second folder under the Profiles folder.
4. Now, double-click on the ProfileName value on the right panel.
5. Enter the new name in the Value Data field and click on the Ok button.
6. Once that is done, close the registry editor by clicking on the X icon appearing on the top-right corner.
As you can see it is not that hard to rename a network in Windows 10.
Structure Of The Fqdn
If you want to better understand the naming hierarchy of the FQDN, then it makes sense to look at the structure of an FQDN from right to left. The further right a label is located, the higher it lies in the tree diagram representation of the hierarchy. On the highest hierarchical level youll find the root label, also called the null label, or the root of the DNS system. It consists of a blank area, and so is only expressed by a period, or dot. In browsers today, its not necessary to enter this dot anymore, since the browser will add it itself.
On the next highest hierarchy level is the top level domain, for example .com, .org, or .ca. To resolve the address, the name server searches through the directory of the given TLD for the domain on the next hierarchy level. Once this is identified, the host whose host name is listed in the lowest label is contacted to access the given site.

Point To Digitalocean Nameservers From Common Domain Registrars
DNS is a naming system that maps a servers domain name, like example.com, to an IP address, like 203.0.113.1. This is what allows you to direct a domain name to the web server hosting that domains content, for example.
To set up a domain name, you need to purchase a domain name from a domain name registrar and then set up DNS records for it. Registrars are organizations that have completed an accreditation process that allows them to sell domain names. Registrars typically offer services to manage DNS records as well, but once you have purchases a domain, most registrars will allow you to manage your DNS records with other providers.
DigitalOcean is not a domain name registrar, but you can manage your DNS records from the DigitalOcean Control Panel. This can make record management easier because DigitalOcean DNS integrates with Droplets and Load Balancers.
You Found The Domain Name Owner Whats Next
When you want a domain name thats taken by someone else, you have to consider what a domain owner will expect in return. Use domain aftermarket sites like SnapNames.com, NameJet.com and the Network Solutions Domain Taken Center to compare prices of domain names for sale.
You should also consider your own reputation before you approach someone about purchasing their domain name. If you already have a following, the owner of the domain may learn how valuable the name is to you, turning a thousand-dollar transaction into one worth tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. Consider making a Certified Offer with Network Solutions or employing a domain broker to maintain anonymity when you make an offer to buy a domain name. It could give you an edge in the negotiation process.
Should all else fail, you can always register another domain name. There are several hundred million domain names registered at the time of this articles publishing, and there are billions of other combinations that are not registered. With enough creativity and research, you can find the alternative thats perfect for you.

How To Find Your Registrar
- It’s likely you have received invoices for your domain name by email it is best to search your email history for these emails to find out the registrar/company you are using. Try searching for your full domain name as a starting point. You should have an email from them with the original account creation and billing information which you can use to log in and gain access.
- Failing this you can do a WHOIS lookup, the easiest way to do this is through the lookup website , enter your top-level domain name, for example, “mydomain.com” and click search. Look for the Registrar information this shows the company that the domain is currently hosted with. If this looks foreign check the Admin, Technical and Billing contacts and email addresses for any company name that looks familiar. You may also find a colleague’s details which you can use to track things down further.
- Some WHOIS lookups don’t return the results you might be looking for, instead, they return a link to a provider website where you can then search for the specific details. For example, most Australian .au domain names are like this. In the public WHOIS results, you might receive a message like “Visit whois.ausregistry.com.au for Web-based WhoIs” which requires you to go to that website to perform the search and get the full results. It just depends where your domain is registered and how much information they make publicly available.
Reach Out Via The Website Or Social Media Profiles
If the masked contact methods in the ICANN lookup tool arent working, you can also try reaching out more directly.
If the domain in question leads to an active website, you could visit that site and look for a contact page:
If youre lucky, you might find a straightforward contact form that you can fill out. Otherwise, you may discover basic details, like the owners name, phone number, or email address.
In your message, simply ask for the real owners information and explain why youre interested in the domain. You might even want to make an offer upfront.
Or, on some websites, you might be able to find social media profiles that you could use to reach out via social media.

Delete A Custom Domain Name
You can delete a custom domain name from your Azure AD if your organization no longer uses that domain name, or if you need to use that domain name with another Azure AD organization.
To delete a custom domain name, you must first ensure that no resources in your organization rely on the domain name. You cant delete a domain name from your organization if:
- Any user has a user name, email address, or proxy address that includes the domain name.
- Any group has an email address or proxy address that includes the domain name.
- Any application in your Azure AD has an app ID URI that includes the domain name.
You must change or delete any such resource in your Azure AD organization before you can delete the custom domain name.
To delete the custom domain, use a Global Administrator account that is based on either the default domain or a different custom domain .

- Business contact information: A must-have for local businesses, but important for all, contact information helps customers and prospective customers get in touch.
- Webmaster/IT contact information: This makes it easy for visitors to report website problems, and have them go straight to your IT team
- Corporate identity: If your company owns multiple sites or brands, identifying the parent corporation on each lets visitors know when theyre on one of your sites.
Don’t Miss: Why Buy Multiple Domain Names
Visit The Website Directly
If youve checked the domain status to find out your wanted domain name is not available, the first thing you should do is visit the website directly.
Some domain names are bought out to be resold later for a higher price. In such cases, the existing site will state the domains availability for sale and provide the owners contact information right away, like in the example below.
If you enter the domain name into the search bar and get taken to a proper website, see if there is a Contact Us page in the navigation bar or the sites footer.
There you will either find the contact details of the website owner or a contact form. Take the chance to reach out and offer to buy the domain name from the registrant.

If you dont remember who that registrar is, try searching your email archives for records regarding your domain name registration . The domain registrar should be listed on your invoice.
Its imperative that you keep your domain registrar up to date regarding changes to your email address and/or contact information. Registrars send renewal notifications to the email address they have listed.

What Are The Most Common Generic Domain Extensions
Extensions often indicate the nature of the website. Some examples:
- .com for any type of commercial website.
- .edu for an educational website.
- .org for non-profits or other miscellaneous organizations
- .gov for government web pages.
However, most businesses choose .com, as it is the most commonly used extension for a business.
Owners often register domain names across multiple TLDs to prevent others from purchasing the identical domain name in other TLDs. This can also avoid copyright issues at a later point in time. For example, Facebook also owns facebook.org . Facebook just redirects all the different TLDs to facebook.com.
Additionally, some domain extensions are restricted. For example, you cant use the .edu extension unless you legitimately are an educational institution. You would need to apply and provide proof that you meet the criteria.
How Do I Find My Domain Name In Outlook
When you receive an email in Outlook, the domain name is displayed in the emails headers. Headers are the technical details of an email that show the route the email took to get to your inbox.
To find the domain name in Outlook:
- Open the email in Outlook.
- Click File. A drop-down menu will appear.
- Click Properties.
A new window will open with the headers displayed at the top.
- Scroll through the headers until you find the From header. The domain name will be displayed after the @ symbol.
The domain name is an important part of an email address. It helps to identify where the email came from and can be used to track down the sender.

What Is A Country
Besides the generic TLDs that we discussed above, there are also country-level domain extensions like .us for the United States, .in for India, or .jp for Japan. If youre a location-based business, it makes good sense to register under these domains, especially if the corresponding .com domain is taken. Sometimes, this is ideal if youre targeting visitors from a particular country.
Examples of other top-level country domains are .ca for Canada, .uk for the United Kingdom, .hk for Hong Kong, and .au for Australia. These are based on standard country abbreviations as per International Standards Organization.
These are all called ccTLDs .
As with generic domain extensions, some country-level domain names are restricted to only people who can prove theyre from that location, while other country extensions are open to the public.
Some country-specific domain extensions have even become popular as more generic terms. For example, the .io extension is technically a country-level TLD for the British Indian Ocean Territory. However, its become much more popular as an extension for tech websites and most people dont even realize that its a country-specific extension.
