Connecting A Domain To Wix Using Pointing

Connecting Your Own Existing Domain Name In Wix

To connect your own existing domain name that youve purchased elsewhere to Wix, you must have a Premium Wix account. Otherwise, you wont be able to do the following steps below.

Once youve completed these steps, all you need to do is to update the name servers of your Wix website to point to your domain name. You can do this by signing in to your domain host account and going to your DNS or name server settings. Simply update the name servers.

The changes may take about 48 hours to complete. You can also verify your domain connection by logging on to your Wix account and clicking on the Verify Connection button. This is found in the Advanced tab at your Domains page. Under the Advanced tab, find the Check connection button, click on it and then click the Restart Connection Wizard, and then navigate down to the Verify Connection button so you can click on it.

How To Point A Domain To Wix

According to Wix, connecting a domain purchased outside Wix is possible only for the Premium plan. So if you already have a Premium plan on Wix, you can refer to these steps on how to connect your domain.

To point your domain to Wix, you have two options: by using Wix nameservers or using A& CNAME records.

Connecting Your Domain To Your Shopify Account

Log into Shopify.

Visit Settings > Domains.

Click Connect Existing Domain. If this option isnt visible on your screen, click Actions first, then choose the Connect Existing Domain option.

Enter the domain name youre connecting.

Click View Instructions. This will show you Shopify help guides to help you with the process. Your exact steps will vary depending on the domain registrar you purchased the domain from.

Some registrars may make you change the DNS settings or CNAME record to Shopifys IP address. Others may require you to change the A record to point the domain to Shopify.

Once youve completed the steps to connect your domain, go back to Shopify and click Verify Connection to ensure the process worked. Keep in mind, the connection process can take up to 48 hours.

If the connection doesnt work after two days, repeat the steps above, checking your domain settings for errors. If you cant find anything wrong, reach out to your domain registrar for help.

Add A Txt Record For Spf To Help Prevent Email Spam

Important

You cannot have more than one TXT record for SPF for a domain. If your domain has more than one SPF record, you’ll get email errors, as well as delivery and spam classification issues. If you already have an SPF record for your domain, don’t create a new one for Microsoft. Instead, add the required Microsoft values to the current record so that you have a single SPF record that includes both sets of values.

Connecting A Domain Name To Wix

Usually, its option 1. Especially if you are not using any email inbox with your domain name yet, its better to connect your name servers with Wix .

If you are already using an external email provider, pointing your domain name to Wix may be more convenient as your email accounts will just continue working without any further changes from your side. The only small disadvantage here: should Wix ever move your website to a new server, you may have to get your A-record updated. Not a biggie, but better if it all happens in the background without your involvement.

Keep in mind that your domain registrar will be able to assist you with these DNS changes.

Be aware that the connection process can take up to 48 hours, so dont panic if you dont see immediate results.

• Domains can only be assigned to sites which have a Premium plan. If you try to assign a domain to a site which isn’t Premium, you will be asked if you want to either upgrade to Premium, or reassign an existing Premium plan from one of your other sites, in order to connect a domain.

What Are The Benefits Of Registering A Domain Name Through Wix

First, Wix provides free domain registration for the first year when you register a new website through their platform, but after the first year your domain will renew at $15 a year. If youre not sure if creating a website is for you, this is a helpful way to save some money on your initial startup costs.

Long term however, free is not free. Its free for the first year, but the renewal rate at Wix is quite expensive and is almost double what a domain registrar like Namecheap charges.

The next benefit to registering through Wix is that your custom domain and SSL will be setup correctly and immediately. Unlike using a domain registrar where you have to wait a few hours for everything to propagate, getting your domain at Wix will have your website with its custom domain ready to go in minutes.

This technical setup may be a bit techy for beginners with you needing to create an A-record and a CNAME record in order to point your domain to Wix and have an active SSL.

Last, you can also transfer an existing domain to your Wix account if you already have one registered elsewhere, but this is costly and time consuming so we dont recommend it. Please note that the cost to transfer a domain is a separate fee from the registration and renewal costs.

Its not possible to get the domain for free at Wix for the first year and then transfer it to Namecheap in order to avoid the more expensive renewal fee at Wix.

Log in. You should arrive at the Domain Management screen. If youre already logged in, click on ACCOUNT in the top-right corner and select Domain Management.

In a new tab, be sure to log into your Wix account and go to your Wix domains page. You will want to have this page open, while you add Wix nameservers in Porkbun, as noted in their guide on configuring nameservers.

A pop-up window should appear with your current nameservers. If youve never changed this setting before, the list is pre-populated with Porkbuns nameservers.

Enter the domain name youre transferring.

You need to have a Wix Premium plan before you can connect your domain to your Wix site.

Connection via Name Server means that Wix hosts your DNS records and you manage them on your Wix account, while Afrihost remains the domain registrar.

• Go to the Wix domains page.
• Select Connect a domain you already own.

If you already have a domain in your account, click Add an Existing Domain, then select Connect a domain you already own.

• Select the site you want to connect your domain to and click Next.
