Why Is The Com Extension The Best Option In Most Cases
Having a website with a .com domain extension is the most common type of domain, and because of that, it seems the most credible and brings the most traffic to the website. Consumers typically expect your website to be your business name.com. Choosing that extension is the best way to increase your traffic from your efforts. Unless the extension is part of your business name, but more on that a little later.
What Does Net Mean
.org is the generic top-level-domain used by nonprofit organizations such as NGOs, educational, charities and other open-source projects. It was also established in 1985 to represent the organizations that didnt match the intent of other domain names: not an educational institute, not the government, not military, not commercial and not in networking. The restriction of .org exclusively for nonprofit organizations is removed in August 2019, so anyone can register .org domain for the purposes other than nonprofit.

When Does Information Become Public
16 December 2010 | Ken Adams
A standard element of confidentiality agreements is exclusions from the definition of Confidential Information. Theyre sufficiently inevitable that longtime reader Michael Fleming refers to them as The Four Romanettes®.
Ive been mulling over one of them, the exclusion for information that becomes public. Actually, thats just one way of phrasing it. Heres a range of alternatives:
- information that is or becomes public
- information that is or becomes publicly available
- information that is or becomes in the public domain
- information that is or becomes generally known to the public
- information that is or becomes widely available to
The first version is the simplest possible the second, third, and fourth versions were offered in Brian D. Bowden, Drafting and Negotiating Effective Confidentiality Agreements, 59 Tex. B.J. 524, 526 . So, what are the implications of these different versions? Lets consider them one at a time.
First, what does it mean to say that information is public? Blacks Law Dictionary gives as a definition of publicOpen or available for all to use, share, or enjoy. According to this definition, what matter is not how widely known the information is, but whether its available.
And what about available for all? Does that mean that for a given piece of information to be public, everybodyevery human on the planetwould have to know that its available? Thats a hopeless standard Id replace it with widely available.
What Is The Domain Name System
The Domain Name System is a technical process by which domain names are translated into their corresponding Internet Protocol addresses .
As we mentioned previously, every website has a unique, complex string of numbers and letters known as an IP address that computers use to render a web address to an end user.
While humans use words, letters and numbers to navigate to a specific website, the internet uses IP addresses to identify the web pages location.
When you type in the domain name or URL that you want to visit, the DNS works behind the scenes to find the sites correct IP address, and then it connects you to the website.

What Does Io Mean
One TLD has become popular recently, especially among tech and SaaS startups: .io. This TLD is assigned to the British Indian Ocean Territory, the seven atolls of the Chagos Archipelago, which is south of India, and notably contains the Diego Garcia atoll, home to a U.S. military base. This domain has become popular in recent years, but have you ever wondered why? What is the .io domain extension doing in the tech space if its a country-specific TLD?
Before we cover the specifics regarding how and why the .io domain extension became so popular among tech startups, its important to understand how the creation of 1,500+ new TLDs have reshaped the world of domain names as a whole, and how businesses are finding new creative ways to no longer rely on .com when searching for the right domain and TLD for their brand.
What Does Biz Mean
.biz is gTLD in the DNS of the internet intended to be used by the businesses. It is the phonetic spelling of the first syllable of business and created to relieve some of the demand of .com TLDs to provide an alternative for those whose .com domain is already registered.

Truth In Domain Names Act
In the United States, the Truth in Domain Names Act of 2003, in combination with the PROTECT Act of 2003, forbids the use of a misleading domain name with the intention of attracting Internet users into visiting Internet pornography sites.
The Truth in Domain Names Act follows the more general Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act passed in 1999 aimed at preventing typosquatting and deceptive use of names and trademarks in domain names.
How Do You Know Which Nameserver To Use
The hosting company you use for your domain name will determine the nameserver names or IP addresses for your domains zone file.
You will need to update the domain names DNS settings via your domain registrar who will then communicate those changes to the domain registry.
After you make changes to your DNS server settings, it can take up to 48 hours to update worldwide domain name servers. This window is known as propagation.

Is A Info Domain Extension Right For Me
Although the .info domain extension was originally intended for informative websites, its use soon broadened to include many other uses. It can be used freely as an alternative to .com and the remaining registered gTLDs. There’s a good chance that anyone seeking credible information will do a .info search. You might want to register a .info TLD if your site is all about sharing information, product specifications or research or if you want to complement your commercial site with an informational site.

Migrating From Com To Another Tld
In some cases, businesses have even dropped their .com domains for a new, shorter or more relevant domain utilizing a different TLD. For instance, tour-eiffel.com now forwards to a more geographically relevant, keyword friendly domain that no longer requires a hyphen, Toureiffel.paris.
Additionally, an existing brand or domain name can sometimes be shortened with a newer TLD, and many companies have caught on and taken advantage of this as well. For example, the public school Lionsgate Academy was able to completely remove .org from their domain by moving lionsgateacademy.org to lionsgate.academy. Speaking of shortening a domain name, it has always been popular for companies with longer business names to take advantage of a shorter domain by using an acronym, like NHM.org .
Unfortunately, there are very few, if any, 3 to 4 character .com domains available anymore making it nearly impossible to utilize an acronym for a .com domain. The good news is that the massive increase in TLDs available in recent years has allowed businesses to find new ways to take advantage of shorter, more memorable domains that leverage brand awareness. Take for example, the Oregon based veterinarian company, Animal Health Associates. They were able to move their website from the long winded animalhealthassociates.org to the much more memorable aha.vet domain.
Public Domain In Other Countries
The fact that a work is either protected by copyright in the U.S. or in the public domain in the U.S. doesn’t mean that same work has the same copyright status in another country. For example, a U.S. government work may be in the public domain in the U.S. but protected by copyright in Canada.
Also, due to different durations of copyright among countries, a work that’s still protected by copyright in the U.S. because of the 70-year duration may be in the public domain for the last 20 of those 70 years in a country with a 50-year copyright duration. This is an issue to consider for any online projects or websites where uploaded content will be used in countries with different copyright durations than your own country.
On each 1 January, various published lists highlight works that enter into the public domain that year. These lists are country specific.

Joining Or Leaving A Domain
If your computer is part of a domain, joining or leaving the domain wont generally be your job. If your computer needs to be on a domain, it will already be on a domain when its handed to you. Youll usually need the domain administrators permission to leave a domain, so people who sit down to use a domain-joined PC cant just leave the domain. However, you can leave a domain if you have local administrator access on your PC. You wont have administrator access if youre using a locked-down PC, of course.
If you have an old computer thats joined to a domain and you no longer have access to the domain, you can always gain access to the PC by reinstalling Windows. The domain settings are tied to your installed operating system, and reinstalling Windows will give you a fresh system. You shouldnt do this to a work or school PC you dont own, of course!
Domains limit what you can do on your PC. When your computer is part of a domain, the domain controller is in charge of what you can do. This is why theyre used on large corporate and educational networks they provide a way for the institution that provides the computers to lock them down and centrally administer them.
Thats the core concept, although much more can be done with domains. For example, group policy can be used to remotely install software on computers joined to a domain.
