Can I Change My Shopify Domain Name

Don't Miss

Your Name Is Unclear Confused And Hard To Pronounce

How to Change Your Shopify Store’s Name and URL

One of the most typical issues you might encounter is that your clients are unable to properly pronounce or spell your name. As a result, it could have a detrimental influence on your brand recognition.

Your name, owing to the historical and linguistic diversity, may have unusual spelling and/or be tough to pronounce for customers of that language.

It occurs when you operate an internet business in a foreign market, particularly if youre selling online.

Do not utilize a perplexed Shopify company name.

Additionally, your logo design must be highly legible and apparent. This is most effective when you utilize block letters and a horizontal layout, which may be customized for website headers.

Update Dns Settings And Cname

If you have the domain name provided by a third-party vendor, such as Bluehost or OVH, you will have to modify your DNS settings and point your A record to the IP address of Shopify and the CNAME record to shops.myshopify.com.

There are four things to do at this stage.

  • Go to your Domain provider and Log in to the account.
  • Search for Domain settings, DNS configuration, or similar options.
  • Again, scan the DNS settings to find CNAME. Configure it to point to shops.myshopify.com. To save changes, look for the Save button, Add record, or something like that.

Now, with the correct CNAME record in place, lets verify the new domain.

Tutorial: How to Change Your Shopify Store Name Site URL (Beginners Guide)

When you sign up to Shopify youâre asked to choose a store name when creating an account. The store name you choose is used to dynamically create your Shopify sub-domain in the format https://yourstorename.myshopify.com. This sub-domain is intended to be used for internal purposes like logging into your Shopify account and setting up and managing your online store.

You may keep this sub-domain as the public facing URL for your online store but we donât recommend it. We advise you to use your own custom domain to build credibility and trust, one that reflects your brand and is memorable.

However, if you decide to ignore our advice and keep your myshopify sub-domain as your customer facing URL, you can change your store name but you wonât be allowed to change your myshopify sub-domain. Instead, youâll need to create a new Shopify store.

If you use or are planning to use your own custom domain you can change your Shopify store name for cosmetic reasons but it wonât affect either your custom domain or myshopify sub-domain.

    Ensure Correct Search Console Settings

Verify you own both the old and destination sites in Search Console. You can do this through a variety of ways but our preference is you verify through your domain provider by updating the DNS record. Its really simple. All you do is add a TXT record with the Google Search Console verification code.

If you changed any of the configuration settings in Search Console for your old site, make sure the new sites setting have the same configurations as well.

    • URL parameters: If you configured URL parameters on your old domain to control the indexing of the site, you should apply these to the new site.
    • Crawl rate: You shouldnt configured this. Its not recommended by Google.
    • Disavowed backlinks: If you uploaded any to your old site, you should re-upload them again using the new Search Console account. That being said, Google has come out and stated that they now view MOST bad back-links as something they just ignore and dont penalize sites for them, but we still recommend doing it. Better to be safe than sorry.
