When you register a domain, you merely get the right to associate it with your website. Inthe brick and mortar world, a domain name is like the business name that you register with some government organisation, while a website is analogous to your shop or office premises. Just as you can registera business name without renting premises somewhere for your shop, so also can you register a domainwithout “renting” space on a web host for your website files.
Having said that, most domainname registrars, the companies through which you get your domain, will automatically associate a dummy website with your domain when you register it. This is calleddomain name parking, andthe end result is that when you type your domain name into your browser, you end up at the placeholder site set up by yourdomain name registrar. There was some suggestion that you could authorise your custom domain using domains.live.com.Apparently you add a TXT DNS record to prove you own the domain and let Microsoft trust the domain.
Now, I had recently migrated DNS providers for my ligos.net domain.And had foolishly not copied all the records across.So maybe this was the real solution.
Nope.Domains.live.com has been deprecated for 18 months and was recently shuttered.So thats no help.
