What If My Domain Has Expired Can I Still Transfer It To Another Registrar
Yes. If your domain has recently expired, you can still transfer it to another registrar. Youll need to renew it with your current registrar, then initiate the transfer.
Make sure that the domain name hasnt been deleted by your current registrar and that youre still in the Redemption Grace Period . If more than 60 days have passed, your expired domain may be made available for purchase to the public.

Submit Your Transfer Through Your Namecheap Account:
- Once logged in, select Domains from the top menu and select Transfer
- Enter your domain name, then click ‘Transfer’
- On the next page, verify whether the domain is fully ready for transfer and enter the Auth code in the respective field
- If you have a coupon code, enter it in the ‘Promo Code’ field, then click ‘Apply’
Shortly after order submission, the transfer gets initiated at the Registry, and the domain acquires ‘pendingTransfer’ status. Transfers that have reached this stage are automatically confirmed within 5 days. Finally, it may take additional 24-48 hours for the Registry to complete the transfer.
You can locate the domains that you’re transferring to us in your account. Go to Domain List, then select Filters -> Pending Transfer.
My Domain Name Registrar Denied My Request Why What Do I Do
There are a few reasons why your request may have been denied.
There could be a discrepancy between your information and that of the domain owner. Alternatively, they cant verify that youre the owner. Make sure your contact information is up to date, and be sure to send what they need from you .
The domain name owner may have sent an objection to the transfer. If youre not the domain name owner, be sure to get in contact with them to resolve the issue.
If you owe your DNS registrar any fees from previous domain purchases, they may have put your domain name on hold. Be sure to pay any outstanding amount owed.
Your domain name may still be under Lock in your portal. Make sure this setting is set on Unlocked.
Alternatively, you may be under the 60-day Change of Registrant lock, in which case youll have to wait 60 days to make the transfer.
Migrating A WordPress Site
Transferring WordPress from cPanel to cPanel
For WordPress sites on cPanel hosting, the fastest way to move your site is to zip everything in your public_html or www folder, upload the folder to your new web host, and add the following two lines into your WP-config:
Migrating WordPress using common plugins
Alternatively, there are plenty of good migrating plugins for those who are moving WordPress site to a new web host. I like Duplicator WordPress Migration Plugin and All-in-One WP Migration for their simplicity. These plugins will help you to clone and migrate a WordPress site to a new web host with no technical knowledge required.
Migrating WordPress using special-built plugins
Some web hosting companies provide their own WordPress migration plugin. For examples WP Engine Automated Migration and SiteGround Migrator these are special plugin developed for transferring WordPress sites to a designated web host. You should make use of the in-house plugins when switching to those particular companies.

It can take up to 20 days for your domain to be transferred. After it’s transferred, you receive a confirmation email from Shopify, and you can access your domain settings on the Domains page in your Shopify admin.
If your domain hasn’t transferred to Shopify after 20 days, then review your Junk or Spam email folders for any notices about the transfer or required actions. If you didn’t receive any email messages, then contact Shopify Support.
If your domain can’t be transferred to Shopify, then you’re refunded the 1-year renewal charge.

Who Takes Care Of The Domain Transfer
The registry operator, or Network Information Center , is the issuing agency of a domain name registry that is responsible for managing all top-level domains in its database. It is also in charge of transferring domains. To do this, an authentication code, or auth code, must be obtained in order to transfer authority from the old registrar to the new one.
How To Transfer Your Domain To A New Host
Now that you understand why you might want to transfer your domain name, its time to discuss how to get it done. Youll need two things: a domain thats still active, and an account on the platform where you want to transfer it to. The latter is easy enough to secure just sign up to your new web host or registrar as you would any other site. Then proceed to the first step.

Make Sure To Redirect Pages
If you want traffic heading to your old domain to make its way to your new one, you need to redirect the old site to the new site. Otherwise, people will see a 404 Page Not Found error when they try to reach your site at the old domain. Follow these steps to set up your redirects:
Use FTP or the File Manager to connect to your old domains registrar or hosting account.
Edit the .htaccess file. This will be in your home directory, or in the same directory as your wp-admin folder for WordPress users.
Open the .htaccess file and add the following code:
#Options +FollowSymLinksRewriteEngine onRewriteRule ^$ http://www.newsite.com/$1
Replace newsite.com with your new domain name.
Now, your old domain name should redirect to your new one. If it doesnt, you should contact your old hosting service’s tech support team for assistance.
Prepare Your Domain For Transfer
Before you can transfer your domain to Shopify, you need to unlock your domain and get a transfer authorization code from your domain provider.
When you transfer a domain to Shopify, your domain’s A record and CNAME record are set to Shopify’s default domain records. If additional records are present on your domain before the transfer, then make a copy of those records to add to the Domains section of your Shopify admin after the transfer. For example, you might need to add an MX record to reconnect your domain to an email hosting service.
The process for preparing a domain for transfer varies by third-party domain provider. If you have trouble preparing your domain for transfer, then contact your third-party domain provider. Shopify Support can’t log in to your third-party domain account for you, even if you give your explicit permission.

Reasons A Domain Name Transfer Might Fail
The domain is locked, pending deletion, in a redemption period or inactive. Domains cannot be transferred for 60 days after initial registration or transfer. They will also not be released if they are the subject of legal disputes, such as over ownership or payments due. So before initiating a transfer, make sure your domain is in good standing and ask your old registrar to remove any domain locks, or log into the control panel and remove them manually.

What Happens To My Domain Name When I Transfer It
Low-price domain names with everything you need to begin building your online presence.
When you transfer a domain name, you’re telling ICANN the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, that you want an alternative registrar to manage your domain. You may or may not decide to change your hosting provider at the same time.

Key Things To Consider When Considering A New Registrar
1. FeaturesEvery registrar offers a suite of features and services, such as privacy protection, web hosting and email. If you don’t have all the features you want with your current registrar, you may wish to take advantage of a better package offered by a different registrar.
In addition to comparing features, it’s also important to look at how the features and services are priced and implemented:
- Price: Do the features you need cost extra or are they included as part of the package?
- Ease of use: Are the features you need easy to implement? Will they require manual effort on your part, or does the registrar offer some simple tools to make things like domain management easier for you?
- Support: Will customer support be available when you need it?
- Provider: Who provides the features they’re selling? Some registrars offer all their own services for email and web hosting, while others partner with third-party providers.
2. PriceLook critically at the price structure of your domain registrar, because each one is different. Some registrars might charge extra fees for services you consider critical, while others may offer the same services at no additional charge. Some may offer a low price for the first year, but then have much higher renewal rates. If your domain registrar is charging you more than you would be charged elsewhere, you may want to look for a less expensive registrar.
Switching Domain Providers: What To Keep In Mind
Domains are often purchased from hosting providers that offer the required online storage space for your website. However, that doesnt mean that the domain is inextricably linked to the domain provider. In fact, provider services offer standalone deals where the domain and the provider are completely independent of one another. So theres good news if youre dissatisfied with your current domain provider: you can easily transfer your domain to another internet service provider. Read on to find out more about how to move your domain to a new hosting provider.

Review Your Domain Provider’s Transfer Policy
Before you begin the transfer process, check your domain provider’s transfer policy to make sure that domain transfers are supported. Most domain providers support domain transfers, but some don’t. You can find your domain provider’s transfer policy by searching their help center for transfer domain:
Set Up Your Email Sending Domain Name
Your domain registrar often provides email service tied to your domain name this lets you send emails to and from addresses like firstname.lastname@example.org and can help grow your brand or business.
But, when you transfer to another registrar, these email accounts are typically deactivated which potentially leaves you out of the loop. Make sure you have a backup email address ready to go before starting the transfer process.

Request A Migration From Your New Hosts Support Team
The simplest way to transfer website hosting is by picking a new web host that offers a free migration service. However, note that not all hosting providers offer this service, and even less provide it for free.
If you run a WordPress site, youll have more luck finding hosting providers who offer website migration at no extra charge. For non-WordPress sites, however, the availability of free migration services decreases significantly.
For example, Bluehost offers a migration service for $149.99, while DreamHost charges $99.
At Hostinger, we offer site migration services at no additional cost for those who purchase any of our website hosting plans.
Outsourcing your site migration task to us takes just three simple steps.
1. Sign Up for a New Web Hosting Plan
To request a new migration, all you need is an active hosting account. So, make sure youve signed up for a hosting plan with us and have access to your sites hPanel.
Alternatively, request the migration while setting up your new hosting account during the sign-up process.
Important! Note that we currently do not offer migration services for VPS hosting.
2. Request Migration and Provide Site Details
After activating your new hosting plan, log in to your accounts hPanel. Then, navigate to Website -> Migrate Website and click Add request.
Here, select the control panel you need migration from. Hostinger divides this section into three WordPress, cPanel, or other control panels.
3. Wait and Review
Go To Your Domain And Confirm Your Contact Information
To begin, navigate to your domain name and check that your contact information is still accurate. If you have domain name privacy, you will need to turn that off in order to process the transfer. Additionally, depending on your domain registrar, you may also need to update your nameservers to reflect your new web hosting providers nameservers.
For example, if youre moving your domain to HostGator, your nameservers might be:
To do this, simply copy and paste the nameservers from your web hosting account to your domain registrar.

Export Your Websites Backup Files
The first step to manually transfer hosting is to create an entire site backup and save your website files. The goal here is to set it up on the new hosting account without errors or missing parts.
Doing this ensures that when your website goes live on the new hosting account, all its content, plugins, and themes remain the same.
Important! Its crucial not to alter your site files or database once you download them. Doing so risks compromising the websites structure, which can lead to errors and broken links.
Back Up Your Files via hPanel
In most cases, the control panel on your old hosting account should offer a full backup export option, which is the easiest way to do this. For example, hPanel has a feature that enables users to create a full backup in just a few clicks.
To download your website files on hPanel:
BackUp Your Website Files Manually
If your current hosting provider doesnt offer a simple backup feature, youll have to conduct a manual backup. Before proceeding, make sure that you have access to a File Transfer Protocol client, like FileZilla, to download the website files.
First, connect to the FTP server via an FTP client. Today, we will be using FileZilla.
