The Steps For Connecting Your External Domain:

How to Connect your Domain to your Shopify Store

These are the quick steps for connecting your domain. Well talk more about each step in future.

  • First create a free Cloudflare account if you dont have one. CF is a reliable platfrom that provides various web services. Using the cloudflare DNS service is free. With Shopify well only use the DNS part of Cloudflare.
  • Secondly, connect your domain on cloudflare by changing your Name-servers to point to the Cloudflare nameservers. CF will give you new nameservers. Take them and add them wherver you bought your domain from.
  • Log into your Shopify store and add your domain . Choose to add an external domain . Add the same domain you added on CF. Shopify will provide you with various DNS records. To get the DNS records, click the Verify Connection button. Youll get a CNAME record for WWW and an A record that points to an IP address. Add these to CF.
  • Take the records you have been given and add them on Coudflare. On Cloudflare, under the DNS tab, add the records you got from Shopify. Give time for propagation.
  • Next go back to Shopify and confirm to add/connect the domain even if it has not fully been propagated and identified by Shopify correctly. The confirmation takes some time.
  • Once the domain has fully been confirmed and connected on Shopify, feel free to make it the primary domain for your online store
  • What Is A Wholesale Supplier

A wholesale supplier is a company that buys goods directly from the manufacturer and sells them to retailers for a profit. The wholesale model soared in popularity with the onset of mass production and marketing techniques, beginning in the 19th century.

Without wholesalers, manufacturers would have to market and promote their goods to retailers themselvesa major inconvenience. Wholesale suppliers are essentially middlemen in the supply chain. They buy from manufacturers in such large quantities that they get a significant discount, which they can then pass on to retailers. They normally have a product license, and as such, their products are not available to regular customersor at least not at the same price points they offer to their retailer partners.

Retailers then repackage the wholesale products for individual sale at a profit. Price is always negotiable, but dropshippers and other retailers typically pay wholesalers 60% to 70% of what they charge consumers.

What To Ask When Contacting A Potential Wholesale Supplier

Before you pick up the phone, ensure you have the necessary business license and tax documents on hand.

You wont be able to place an order at some companiesor even get their attentionwithout this information. The rules vary from state to state. Wholesalers often have a special product license, meaning they legally cannot do business with consumers, only other businesses.

When you do call, here are key questions to ask:

Ask clear, direct questions that will help you find answers to your most important questions.

Im thinking of maybe starting a dropshipping business sometime soon is the type of vague email that a busy wholesaler might just ignore. But straightforward questions that show you mean businesssuch as, Whats your best price for 250 units per month?are more likely to get a reply.

When in the sourcing research phase, I send multiples of the exact same message and compare response time, the substance of reply, knowledge of the industry, costs, turnaround estimates, and overall energy of any follow-up calls.Gayneté Jones, Founder of Best PeriodT

And rememberoftentimes, you can negotiate with wholesale suppliers. Dont be afraid to push back if the numbers theyre quoting wont work for your margins.

A domain is the website address, also called a URL, where people can find your store on the internet.

When you first create a Shopify account youâre asked to choose a store name. This store name is used to dynamically create your Shopify domain in the format https://yourstorename.myshopify.com. This domain is initially set as your primary domain.

This domain is used for logging into your Shopify admin dashboard. It can also be used as your customer facing URL but we strongly advise against it. Instead, we recommend you buy and use your own branded custom domain name to build credibility and trust. Customers want to do business with your brand not with Shopify.

Youve done all the homework and are almost ready to come to an agreement with your wholesale supplier. But before you sign that contract, here are a few more things to check:

    • Ask for references from other customers. If a company is reluctant to share this information with you, that may be a red flag.
    • Do they have liability insurance? If not, be careful. This type of insurance is there to protect you in case anyone is injured by a faulty or damaged product that you sold them.
    • Do the numbers make sense? Dont overextend your business just because the discount offered is exciting. If youre new to dropshipping, the best strategy is to buy only what you need. You dont want to be left holding surplus stock if what you thought was the next hot product turns out to be a dud.
