First, you can buy a new domain name if you are not happy with the current domain name.

Second, connect the existing domain with your Shopify store.

Third, change the primary domain as given on the right side of the Primary domain section.

Lets just say, you want to buy a new domain name.

After getting the domain, you have to verify it with the email.

Once you verify the domain name, you can set that domain as your primary domain. In the screen below, you can see the registered domain is connected.

So, if we want to change the primary domain, simply press the Change primary domain option.

Pick the one you want to set as the primary domain and hit Save.

After saving, you will get a success message like this:

No matter what, if your customers are hitting the old domain they would be directed to the changed domain name as we have set it the primary domain.

How To Transfer A Domain

When a domain is transferred, management of that domain moves to Shopify, which means you adjust your domain settings, pay for that domain and renew your domain right in your Shopify Admin panel. Shopify does not come with email accounts as part of its domain services. However, it does include unrestricted email forwarding accounts for your domain name.

To transfer a domain to Shopify, first, you need to have signed up your domain more than 60 previous days and have access to your original domain provider account. Please kindly note that to transfer your domain, you will need to keep an eye on and respond to important confirmation emails. Then, it takes you no more than 20 days from the time of initiation until the transfer gets completed.

Also, note that you have to pay for your domain annually to have it in use. For instance, if you have 3 months left until your domains expiration and then you transfer your domain to Shopify and add 12 more months of registration, you will not have to renew your domain for 15 months.

Transfer Your Shopify Domain Out Of Shopify

To transfer your domain to another domain host, you must unlock your Shopify domain and provide your new host with a domain authorization code.

How To Remove Shopify From Url

If you have just signed up with Shopify, then first and foremost, your store will have a shopify URL.

This will be tied onto the name of the store that you entered during the sign up process.

It will look something like this:

myshopifystore.myshopify.com

Of course myshopifystore will be replaced with the name you called your store.

While you can technically sell under this domain, its not great for branding and does not look good for acquiring customers. Its also, not great for your general brand image.

As such, you are going to want to use a custom domain, and one that you register with a domain provider. You will need to set this as your primary domain.

The primary domain is the domain name that customers see in the address bar while they browse your online store.

So by default, myshopifystore.myshopify.com would be your primary domain.

To an assign a primary domain, and manage your domains in general, you simply need to navigate to Online Store> Domains when you are in your Shopify Admin.

Connect Existing Godaddy Domain To Shopify

1. What you need to do first is to access the Shopify Admin. Login to your Shopify account at http://www.shopify.com.

2. Click the Online Store sales channel on the left side to view the other sections then, click Domains.

3. Since we are connecting an existing GoDaddy domain, we need to click the Connect Existing Domain button.

4. It will then ask you to enter the domain name that you have previously acquired. Click Next after you have entered the domain name.

5. Shopify will automatically detect the internet domain registrar that you have used. Since we will do this Automatically, click the Connect Automatically button.

6. You will be asked to sign in to your GoDaddy account. Just sign in using the login details on where you purchased the domain name.

7. Then, GoDaddy informs you that they will be disconnecting the domain from their DNS records and change it to Shopifyâs DNS records. Just click the blue Connect button to proceed with the changes.

8. It will then give you a Success confirmation informing you that the website is already a Shopify domain. Just click the Close button to go back to Shopify.

Shopify is going to verify the connection of your GoDaddy domain. You will then receive a green callout saying that your domain is now connected with Shopify.

9. What you need to do next is to make sure that your customer will visit your domain and not the Shopify branded domain. Click the Change Primary Domain link and select your domain name, then click Save.
