How to set up email at your own domain name
  • Open your Gmail account.
  • At the top right, click the Settings icon.
  • Select Settings.
  • Select the Accounts and Import tab.
  • In the Check mail from other accounts section, click Add a POP3 mail account you own.
  • Enter your domain email address, then click Next Step.
  • Enter your account username. Your username is your full email address
  • Enter the email accounts password.
  • Enter your accounts POP server information. This is the Incoming Server information on your View Email Client Info settings. Make sure you enter the correct mail server name and the corresponding port number.

    If you are using the Secure SSL/TLS settings, make sure you select Port 995 from the Port drop-down menu.

    If you are using the Non-SSL settings, select Port 110 from the Port drop-down menu.

  • Select the desired options:
  • Leave a copy of retrieved messages on the server check the box if you are also accessing your emails on another email client or device , otherwise the emails in your domain email account will be deleted and you will only be able to access them in Gmail
  • Always use a secure connection when retrieving mail if you are using the Secure SSL/TLS settings, then you need to check the box. If you are using the Non-SSL settings, then uncheck the box.
  • Label incoming messages check the box if you have more than one email account set up in your Gmail this way, you can easily see which emails in your inbox come from your domain email account.
  • When ready, click Add Account.

    Finally, when it comes to prices, its all the same whether you buy through Squarespace or Google directly, costing around $6 per month or $72 per year . And yes, thats per user which isnt exactly cheap.

    How to set up email at your domain with Office 365

    The final step is to activate Gmail for your Google Workspace accounts.

    On the page, youll see the following MX records:

    • aspmx.l.google.com / priority = 1
    • alt3.aspmx.l.google.com / priority = 10
    • alt4.aspmx.l.google.com / priority = 10

    Youll need to open a new tab and go to your hosts DNS tool, or re-open the DNS tool tab from earlier.

    Alternative Method For Other Hosts

    For other hosts, youd need to access your DNS tool, for example, through logging into your cPanel and opening DNS Zone Editor.

    Select the appropriate domain, and then click the Add Record button to open a new window.

    Fill out the appropriate priority and then copy and paste the destination. Double-check that everything is correct, and click Add Record to complete. Repeat the process for the four alternative MX destinations.

    If your host has email enabled by default, you might need to remove existing MX records.

    Return to the cPanel and create an email forwarder from your custom domain email address to your Gmail address.

  • Now all emails to will be forwarded to your Gmail account.

    If youre not a fan of Gmail, you dont have to worry. This isnt the only way to create an email on a domain, though its the easiest one. If you want to set up a domain email on another client, you can look it up.

    Some online clients such as Yahoo take minimum effort and the setup process is similar to Gmail. However, complex clients such as Outlook require more effort.

    Link Your Domain Email Address With Gmail

    To start, go to your Gmail inbox.

    Next, look for the cogwheel in the upper right hand corner and click it to access your Gmails settings.

    Once in the mail settings, go to the Accounts and Imports tab.

    Next, look for Send mail as: which will be close to the top of your screen.

    Now click on Add another email address. This will open up a popup window for you to fill out.

    Here, youll add the email address you created earlier in your hosting cPanel. In addition, youll want to keep the Treat as an alias box checked, as you do.

    If youre asked to sign in to the email address after clicking Next Step, remember its the same credentials you used when making the domain name email address in your cPanel.

    After signing in , an email will be sent to your sites email address. From there, it will be sent to the email address you chose to forward all domain name emails to.

    When this happens, you can verify the email by either clicking a link or entering the confirmation code in the email.

    Then, click Confirm.

    You have now connected your Bluehost email address to Gmail this means all email sent to your Bluehost address will land in your Gmail folder. However, you also need to update Gmail so that you can send email from this address too.
