Before moving on, please make sure you understand a few things :

  • Email can be web-based or client-based. Web based is like GMail. You use your web browser to view it. Client-based is like using Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird its a separate program you start and its not in your web browser.
  • If you use client-based email, you may have different sending and receiving hosts. You may login to one host to check/receive email and another host to send email.
  • Your receiving email host is either using POP3 or IMAP.
  • Your sending email host is using SMTP.
  • If youre keeping your email on the server and checking it from multiple locations or devices, then youre probably using the IMAP protocol .
  • If youre downloading your email every time you check it and clearing it off the server, then youre using POP3 as the protocol youre using email.
  • Email can also be forwarding from one place to another, so make sure youre checking for things like that.
  • Email can be a little tricky but there is a path you can follow and get answers, so dont give up!

    Some Important Notes About This Method

    While the Gmail part of this method is 100% free, there are some caveats to this method in that youll need to already have email hosting to make it work. Typically, you would get this through your web host if you have a website.

    How To Extract The Domain From An Email Address

    If you’re trying to find someone’s email address, you may get a list back with email addresses of all of your prospects. However, for your email templates, might want to reference the domain of the email address. That is way too tedious to do by hand. Here’s a simple Excel trick to get the domain from an email address.

    If A1 is the cell that has the email address, then the formula to get the domain is simply:

    =MID+1,99)

    Let’s break this down.

    MID is an Excel function that returns a specified numbers characters back from a string, starting at a specified place. In our case, we want to start from immediately after the “@” symbol in the email address, and go to the end of the string. In simple terms, that’s all this function does.

    The MID function takes three inputs:

  • The string to look at
  • The starting position
  • The number of characters to take from that starting position
  • Let’s dissect the second input. Here we put a function, FIND, that returns the first position of a specified character in string. Here we use FIND to get the location of the “@” symbol. It takes two inputs, the text to analyze and the character to find . In our case, A1 is the haystack and “@” is the needle.

    We add +1 to the FIND result because we don’t want to include the “@” symbol in the domain. Without it, the formula on “” would return “@toofr.com” and we don’t want that.

    Create Your Google Workspace Business Account

    First, head over to , and click the Get Started button. Once youve done that, you will start the signing up process.

    Fill out the basic required info, including your number of employees, your business name, and your country. Its important to choose the country where your business is registered.

    Dont choose the United States because you want the language to be English.

    To verify your email domain on the Domains Overview page, follow these steps.

  • In the Email Domainssection, click Add & Verify Domain.
  • Enter the email address at the domain you want to verify and click Send Verification Email.

  • When you receive the verification email, you can either click the Verify Domain Access button in the email, or enter the verification code in the pop-up in your account and click Verify.

  • Click Done to close the pop-up and return to the Domains Overview page.

  • Note
