What Is The Difference Between A Domain Name And Web Hosting
A domain name is different to web hosting as the latter is where your website lives. Several companies offer a combination of domain name registration and web hosting to make it easy for people to launch a website. However, there are no strict requirements as you can also buy them separately from different companies.
Setting Up A Custom Domain With Shopify
Once you identify the Custom Domain you want to use then you are going to need to connect that Domain to your Shopify Store.
This is very simple and should take between 2-5 minutes. There just a couple of actions you need to take on both the Shopify Platform itself and then the third-party domain providers platform
Shopify actually provide their own instructionsfor how to do this but I will briefly describe the process here. There are only three steps:
Overview: How Can I Transfer My Domain To Another Host
Before moving your domain to another host, first, prepare it for transfer. Most hosting providers follow a standard procedure for disconnection with a few minor variances. In a nutshell, this is what you do:
Note: Most service providers restrict ineligible domain transfers. You have to have been using your domain on a paid plan for at least 60 days since it was created/transferred over. Furthermore, make sure your domain has not achieved the maximum possible term, i.e. ten years for most TLDs. The transfer will not be possible until the domain becomes eligible for renewal again.
