The following sections describe some of the behaviors that you might see while importing your Squarespace data into Shopify:
Connect Your Domain To Shopify
To avoid any interruption in service, you need to connect your domain to Shopify. If you don’t connect your domain before you transfer it, then visitors to your domain might experience connection errors during the transfer process.
Changes to a domain can take up to 48 hours to complete. Make sure that the connection process is complete before you begin the transfer.
Export Your Store Data From Squarespace
The first step in store migration is to export the product, customer, and order data from Squarespace. When your export is complete, your computer downloads two CSV files containing your Squarespace data, which you can use to import that data into Shopify.
From your Squarespace account, go to your advanced settings to download a CSV export file for product data. See Exporting products to a CSV for instructions.
From your Squarespace account, go to your orders page to download a CSV export file for orders and customer data. See Exporting orders for instructions.
If you have any pending orders, then you need to close them before moving your orders to Shopify. If you attempt to import pending orders, then they’re imported as completed orders.

How Do I Connect A Namecheap Domain Name To Squarespace
There are several occasions when it makes sense to keep Namecheap as your domain name registrar . The best solution in this case would be to point your Namecheap domain to your Squarespace site. To perform this connection, you need to change a few settings at Namecheap.
Here is an example for one of our Squarespace websites. We pointed the A-Record and CNAME to Squarespaces servers.

Squarespace offers a free domain when you buy a yearly subscription. It also works if youre using the free trial and upgrade to an annual plan. Same if youre on a monthly plan and upgrade to an annual plan.

So Which Is Better Squarespace Or Shopify
Squarespace is a better option for websites without stores and bloggers with small online stores. It has better features for design, so it is easier to create a good looking website with Squarespace. Shopify, however, has features that make it the undisputed king of eCommerce.
When deciding which one is better overall, I would choose Shopify. The simple reason is Shopifys app store that makes it easy to add any feature that isnt integrated into Shopifys plans.

The Ultimate Guide To Migration From Squarespace To Shopify
Lets start this article by stating that Squarespace is a great website-building plaftorm… for certain businesses.
My girlfriend was looking for a portfolio site for her photography styling work, and even as a Shopify expert, I recommended Squarespace and we built the site together. It was a pleasant experience overall and the outcome was a beautiful templated design with only a few hours of work. So for service based businesses from graphic designer to lawyer, weve steered friends towards squarespace for its ease of use, efficiency, and cost.
For eCommerce, however, we always recommend using Shopify. Squarespace is not a bad place to start for companies with a smaller product offering, but sooner or later you will run into limitations when trying to grow your business. If you already have a Squarespace store and are looking to move over to Shopify, this is called a migration. Also, if you are looking to migrate, this blog is written precisely for you.
First, lets look at a few advantages of Shopify over Squarespace for eCommerce in particular. We wrote an exhaustive list in this previous blog post but we’ll summarize below.
Some Products Customers Or Orders Failed To Import
Any customers with the same email address or phone number aren’t included in an import. If two or more customers share an email address or phone number, then only the most recently created customer entry is imported.
Squarespace can only export up to 2000 products, with each variant being considered as a single product. So products exceeding this number are not included in your export file and hence not imported to your Shopify store.
For example, if your Squarespace site has 500 products and each product has 5 variants, then you expect your export file to have 2500 rows. However, due to the export limit, the export file contains only 2000 rows of data. The remaining 500 rows are excluded from the file, which means that 100 productsand their variants aren’t exported.

Automated Squarespace To Shopify Migration
The automated Squarespace to Shopify migration method is reserved for store owners who prioritize speed and cost-efficiency.
This is where you get to leverage specialized migration tools, which then proceed to transfer and map all the data on your behalf.
And while basic data import tools require human control, automated migration tools take it up a notch by handling everything. All you need to do is just enter your store details and voila! The tool will take care of the technical bits while you sit and relax.
The only problem is, finding the right tool can be a headache. It takes a well-optimized migration tool to handle all the possible intricacies of transferring data between Shopify and Squarespace.
Personally, Ive tried out a couple of options over the years. And, so far, Id recommend Cart2Cart over any other store migration tool. It has proven to not only be consistently fast, accurate, and reliable but also comparatively inexpensive.
In fact, Im not the only one who thinks so. Cart2Cart, as it turns out, has managed to build quite a reputation among Shopify users. So much so that it boasts a rating of 4.5 stars from more than 200 reviews on the Shopify App Store.
But, thats not all. Theres so much more to using Cart2Cart for Squarespace to Shopify migrations.
Shopify Vs Squarespace Comparison : Which Is Best
Shopify is one of the most powerful eCommerce website builders in the industry. On the other hand, Squarespace is the king of design among website builders. This is an interesting matchup that wont end with the overwhelming victory by one side.
Before giving you details about the two, I can tell you that in most cases it is easy to decide which of the two is a better option for a specific website. Anyone who wants to create a big eCommerce store should pick Shopify. On the other hand, if an online store isnt the primary focus of a website, Squarespace is a better option. Deciding is Shopify or Squarespace better overall is where it gets hard.
Squarespace vs Shopify for eCommerce seems like a decision that is easy to reach. After all, Shopify is one of the most powerful eCommerce platforms. However, not all eCommerce websites have complex stores or require all the tools Shopify offers. Sometimes, a better design is more important than sophisticated eCommerce features, especially in creative industries.
There are many situations where Squarespace is better for eCommerce, but ultimately you will have to be the judge of which platform is better for your website. I will give you all the important details about both platforms, so after reading this article, it should be easier for you to make that decision.

Professional Squarespace To Shopify Migration Services
When you just start thinking about your Squarespace website migration, you dont think about the most effective way to do that. You bother about the elements that need to be transferred, about the speed and efficacy of the migration process as well as about the successful task completion.
However, as you get closer to the process itself, you start considering various migration alternatives. This is where you may face problems.
Actually, there are two major ways to switch your website from Squarespace to Shopify. The first one implies the use of specific programs or tools, the choice of which is quite extensive in the contemporary market. Thats not the best solution, however, as these tools are not altogether reliable. They frequently make mistakes during the website transfer process, which may further have negative impact upon its performance. Whats more, these programs are paid. To avoid the problems, it makes sense to hire the professionals from Cart2Cart, which are the best in this niche and will thoroughly take care of each stage of your website transfer process. Transferring Squarespace Domain Name To Shopify
- Float this Topic for Current User
I am having some trouble, and after spending hour with Squarespace online support and Shopify online support, I decided to give the forums a try.
In squarespace my site is unlocked, and I received the authorization code which I entered in Shopify. Everytime I do this I receive a transfer fail notice – with no reason as to why it failed. I am outside of the 60 day window, so I know that is not the problem. Before the 60 days, I had my site pointing to Shopify, so I deleted all of that and deleted the DNS entires, still no luck.
Any ideas on what could be happening? My site is now completely offline.
Katy here from Shopify. I hope all is well with you, and I am very sorry to hear about your situation.
Usually when transferring a domain from another host to Shopify, provided that you have waited beyond the 60 day period and have access to the authorization code, as you mention, this should be sufficient to begin the transfer process. We have information on this here as a reference.
Should the process fail for any reason, the reasoning for this should be sent to you via email. Would you be able to check in your spam folder to see if this notification had arrived in there by mistake?
Usually domain transfers can take anywhere between 7 – 10 days for a successful transfer, while in cases where it has not been successful, this can take up to 20 days for the notice of failure.
