The information about the value of the Office 365 MX record that represents our domain name appears in the Office 365 portal.

To be able to get this information we will need to login to Office 365 portal using Global administrator credentials.

  • You can Select Verify button to continue.
  • Microsoft will take you to DNS server to sign in so you can give Microsoft authorization to verify your domain.

You can click on button to allow Microsoft to verify DNS records. This is a one-time authorization. It doesnt grant Microsoft permission to make future changes. Microsoft will add the following DNS records for the domain.

How Do I Set Up Office 365 Mail On My Domain Name

After signing up, you will land on the Office 365 admin panel. From here you need to visit Setup » Domains page to add your custom domain.

This will bring you to the domains settings page. Go ahead and click on the Add domain button to continue.

On the next screen, you will be asked to enter the domain name you want to setup. After entering the domain name, click on the next button to continue.

Office 365 will now look up your domain name and then ask you to verify ownership by adding information to your domains DNS settings.

To do this, you will need to switch back to your domains settings page. Depending on your domain registrar, this page will be located under your account. You need to find the DNS settings option.

Office 365 will now check for DNS record to verify that you own the domain name. DNS verification can take 5 10 minutes because sometimes your DNS is not updated right away.

After verification, you will be asked to manage your online services.

Ok so first we need to purchase a domain name so that we can setup some employee accounts and create them some email addresses. Ive used 123 reg for years, they are reliable and easy to use but you can buy domains from any company you wish. The steps in this guide will be similar for all domain name companies.

First find an available domain name by going to www.123-reg.com and searching for a name as shown below using the search box. Here I need a new domain name for my gaming company so I search gaming mats to see what domain names are available.

123 Reg will display a list of available domain names and once youve found one you want click on Add to basket. Here im going to purchase gaming-mats.co.uk.

You dont need any special offers or email hosting so just continue with your purchase. We are going to setup our email accounts in Microsoft 365 so none of these services are needed.

Again you dont really need any of the other services although Domain Ownership Protection can be added if you want to add some extra protection against people trying to steal your domain name. Click Continue.

Add in your name and address details and specify if you are an individual or business and click Continue.

Accept the terms and conditions and make the payment.

    Warning: It is important to consult your migration plan before continuing through the domain setup. Changing your MX records before you are ready to migrate can result in a loss of service.

    After Office 365 successfully verifies your domain, you can begin to assign it to your users. You cannot fully use your Office 365 services until you add the appropriate DNS entries to your domains DNS host.
