What Is A Shopify
As we have mentioned above, a domain is your website address where people can find your store among millions of businesses online. When you first create a Shopify account, users are asked to choose a store name. The Shopify system will automatically embed this name into the domain in the format https://yourstorename.myshopify,com. This is initially set as the primary domain.
Normally, there are three options to get a domain name use a domain you already own, buy it with Shopify, or buy a domain from a registrar. If users dont have a preference for a domain registrar, it is easiest to buy a domain name directly through Shopify. The process is straightforward and the price is significantly competitive. The system will automatically set up your domain so that you dont have to get into setting up DNS records.

Why Change Shopify Domain And How To Do That Fast
If you change your domain name, you give yourself and your store the chance to have a distinctive identity online since the same domain name can’t be registered more than once. Remember, your domain name is as essential to your brand as your business name.
A domain name that uses strategic keywords makes it clear to visitors and casual browsers what your business is about and helps rank on Google. This is not only valuable but necessary for marketing purposes. In addition, a unique domain name can help your business stand out among competitors.
It’s best to use short Shopify domain names they are easy to remember and type, avoiding unnecessary mistakes that may land potential customers on other people’s sites.
How to change your Shopify domain is fast and easy. Here are three easy steps.
Verify Your Email Address
After you buy a domain, you must verify your email address to complete your domain registration. Check your email account for several emails from Shopify that you need to review. These emails include details about the following:
- confirming your purchase
- verifying your email address
- managing how your data is shared.
If you don’t receive an email about verifying your email address, then check your email inbox’s spam folder or resend the verification email from your Shopify admin. If you don’t verify your email address, then your domain might be suspended.
If you already own a domain that is registered with the same first name, last name, and email address, then your email address might be verified automatically. If your email address is verified automatically, then you won’t receive an email about verifying your email address.

Renew An Expired Domain
If your domain subscription expires, and you want to keep using your domain, then you have 40 days to contact Shopify support to renew it. This is sometimes referred to as the grace period. You can’t renew an expired domain yourself.
If you don’t renew an expired domain during the grace period, then you might be able to renew it during the redemption period by contacting Shopify support. The redemption period lasts up to 30 days after the grace period. There are additional costs associated with renewing a domain during the redemption period.
If your domain isn’t renewed by the end of the redemption period, then it’s deleted from the registry. After deletion, the domain becomes available for anyone to purchase. You might be able to buy your domain again through Shopify or from a third-party domain provider.

How Much Does A Shopify Domain Cost
Normally, the cost of a new domain in Shopify will start at $14 per year with the option to automatically renew before expiration in order to avoid interruptions. We highly recommend setting this option to safeguard your brand and assets, though you should receive warning notifications well in advance.
The following table shows the typical first-year cost for buying a domain.
If youre looking for a more specialized domain like .store, .health, or .tv, be sure to look through Shopifys list of Other Domain Names as the open search field doesnt always provide accurate results.
Also, you will see in the table that third-party domain providers typically offer a slightly better price. However, there are a few points to consider before going with them over Shopify.
- The savings are quite minimal for the extra work you need to do by using a third-party domain provider.
- If you buy through Shopify, you dont have to manually set up the domain to connect with Shopify. This can be confusing if you have little experience with domains.
- Third-party domain providers may offer the domain you want at a steep discount for the first year but then require you to pay the full retail price for each yearly renewal, which is far higher than the cost of using Shopify.
If you have already purchased a domain from a third-party provider, dont worry. Weve got you covered at the end of this article.
Delete A Shopify Managed Domain
- Float this Topic for Current User
I would like to delete my shopify managed domain.
Is there a way to do this?
Im Helen from Shopify Support. Welcome to the Community, and thanks for your question.
It is possible to remove a Shopify-managed domain! A member of our support team will need to assist with this if you want it fully removed, however its possible to disconnect it so that it no longer directs customers to your storefront.
To proceed with this, please first ensure that the auto renew option is turned off. You can do this from your admin by going to Online Store > Domains > Manage and unchecking the auto renew box as seen below:
Next, you need to disconnect the domain from your store. This is done by altering the DNS settings, which are also found in Online Store > Domains > Manage. They are at the top of this page here:
Within these settings, please remove the CNAME, and change the A Record to be 0.0.0.0. Both tasks are initiated by clicking on the Actions dropdown next to the record, like this:
Once these changes are made, the domain is disconnected from your account, and it will no longer direct customers to your storefront. Therefore, you can leave it on your account just like this, which gives you the flexibility to allow it to expire, reconnect it at another time or transfer it to another Shopify store or hosting site, if youd like.
Let me know if you have any further questions!
Hi, . Great question thanks for asking it!

How To Get A Free Domain For Your Website
When you invite someone to your home for the first time, you have to tell them how to find you. The easiest way to do this would be to simply give them your address. From there they can navigate directly to your home.
Similarly, a domain is your website’s address. Its how visitors will find their way to your website. Selecting your domain is an important step, as not only will it affect how easily your customers find you, but it can also help improve SEO for your brand.
Additionally, once youve selected your domain, you dont want to change it down the road. That can make it more difficult for established customers to find you, and youll have to make changes to all of your marketing materials.
We will walk you through domain registration, the reasons you need a domain name, the best ones to select from, and how to get a domain name for free.
In our example, if the domain is equal to our home address, then the web hosting is like our house. Your internet address is called an IP address. An IP address consists of a long string of numbers that really only makes sense to a computer. To make an IP address easily accessible, we purchase domain names that will route to our specific IP addresses.
In order to get started, youll need to register your domain.
Keep Your Online Store Name Simple And Straightforward
Essentially, many business owners want their store name to be perfect. Unfortunately, perfection is rarely simple. So keep it simple!
The same goes for choosing the Shopify store name. Believe us, you need time to think about it. Especially, you should look for a memorable name for your business and make it easy to remember.
In contrast, if you use a long or complex name store, it will make it harder for your audiences to recognize your brand in the first place.
In our experience, choosing the first thing that pops into your head will be the first thing that pops into customers heads.
Notes: Make it easy to spell and say. If someone has heard your brand name, your store should be easy for them to remember. One or two words is highly recommended.
