Receive Emails From Your Current Address In Outlookcom

The benefit of using a forwarder is that your mails will arrive almost instantly in your Outlook.com account instead, even when Outlook itself is closed.

However, this requires proper forwarding support by your current ISP but nowadays most ISPs provide support for this. If your ISP doesnt offer forwarding capabilities, dont worry, we can take care of that in Step 4.

  • Add your current address as an alias to your Microsoft Account. Before creating a forwarder, well first make sure that your current email address is added as an alias to your Microsoft Account. This will reduce the likelihood that all forwarded messages will be marked as spam.
  • Go to the Manage how you sign in to Microsoft page and click on Add email if your current address hasnt been added yet. Follow the instructions to complete adding the alias address.
  • Configure a forwarder with your current email provider.Logon to the web based mailbox provided by the ISP that hosts your mailbox or logon to the control panel to manage the mail settings for your custom domain to set up forwarding. As this is different for each mail provider, it is hard to be more specific. If you cant find it, it is best to contact your current provider and ask for it.Once youve found it, configure it to forward the emails to your @outlook.com address. For example, this is how it will look like in Gmail

To configure Gmail to forward your emails, use the Forwarding and POP/IMAP section in your Gmail settings.

  • Register Or Transfer Your Custom Domain With Google Domains

The secret to all of this is that includes the email forwarding functionality with the cost of the domain. Previously, I had been paying Pobox.com $20/year for this service. Google Domains charges $15/year for the domain, with no extra costs necessary.

If you are registering a new domain, its fairly straightforward to do. If you are transferring an existing domain, the instructions vary based on your current registrar. . A few things to keep in mind:

    • There is generally no cost to transfer, other than paying Google for an additional year of service. This will extend the registration of your domain for an additional year beyond its current expiration point.
    • You cant transfer within the first 60 days of having bought/transferred a domain.
    • Youll need to unlock the domain at your existing registrar.
    • You often need to turn off WHOIS privacy temporarily during the transfer process.
    • Your old registrar may send you an email to get your explicit approval for the transfer before it can go through.

    Obtaining A Domain Name

Before you can have a Gmail domain name, you first must register a domain. If that step is already completed, just skip this section and move on to the G Suite section. For those of you that have yet to complete this vital process, fear not, Domain.com has made domain registration cheap and easy.

In order to claim a domain name, it must be registered with ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, a nonprofit that keeps track of available, unused domain names. Because of regulations, a domain can only be registered with ICANN through a domain registrar such as Domain.com.

Domain registrars are afforded this privilege because:

    • They have received accreditation through ICANN
    • They have built up years of experience in the world of domains
    • It helps centralize and track ownership and availability of names
