How To Create A Custom Domain
To create a custom domain, you must create a new CNAME record that will be used to access your Account. This is done in a DNS zone for the domain that you wish to use.
Set your chosen CNAME record to point to clients.databox.com.
In your Databox Account, navigate to Account > Account Details > White-Label.
Enter your CNAME in the textbox in the Use custom domain for app access and report sharing section
Pro Tip: It can take up to 72 hours for the CNAME to propagate and properly point to the Databox app.
Click Save at the bottom of the page.
At this point, you can log in from your custom domain and it will replace “app.databox.com” in your Sharable Databoard Links.
Pro Tip: If you are an Agency User, the custom domain can be automatically applied to new Client Accounts by selecting the Apply all settings to all Clients checkbox on the White-Label page. Learn more here.
Microsoft Tcp/ip Host Name Resolution Order
Just before we update the Hosts file its worth understanding the order in which domain names are resolved to IP addresses. This article by Microsoft, explains the Host Name Resolution Order on a Windows PC, basically the order in which your PC will attempt to resolve a Domain Name to an IP Address, are:
In most cases the domain name will be resolved by the DNS Servers you are using, ordinarily this will be the DNS Servers that your ISP or Company Network have decided to use. Youll note though that the Hosts file will be queried before the DNS servers so just be aware of that. So we can in effect put any domain name in here and it will be resolved before the DNS server entries, but obviously for our PC only, .
The Hosts file can only be updated by Administrators so to update Id recommend running a simple Notepad.exe as Admin:
As shown below:
The from Notepad, open the hosts file from the following location, : C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
On the Open File Dialog be sure to select All Files, then select the Hosts file it should have an .ics extension:
Depending on how your PC is set up will depend on the contents of this file, but it should look something like this, :
You can see Ive already updated with the IP Address of my PC and the custom domain I want, in this case localshop.io

Maybe you have your own domain to showcase your work on the web, such as a portfolio. Or perhaps you set up a domain name for your family to share news and events. By adding these types of custom domains to iCloud, you can use Apples Mail app to manage your emails on iPhone, iPad, or Mac. You dont have to worry about a separate server or email service, and for a family, everyone can have their own email address with the family domain name.
Note: At the time of this writing, the custom email domain feature is still in its beta version. You can visit beta.icloud.com to set it up. Just note that with any beta version, it may not yet be stable. After its public launch likely in the fall of 2021, you can visit icloud.com to create your custom email domain.

How Much Is A Custom Domain
The cost of a domain name varies, depending on the domain registrar youre buying it from and the domain extension you want. Typically, a .com domain name which is the most popular extension costs $10 to $15 per year.
Virtually all website building platforms, from hosted website builders to self-hosted CMS platforms to everything in between, include domain name registration in their sign-up process.
Some hosted platforms like Squarespace, as well as hosting providers like Bluehost, include a free year of domain registration when you sign up, which appeals to new site owners who want to keep their costs low. Just make sure you check the renewal fees so youre not unknowingly committing to an expensive annual rate.
Other hosted platforms like CMS Hub and providers like SiteGround require you to purchase a domain from a third-party domain registrar like GoDaddy or Namecheap and then connect it to your account. This is a relatively inexpensive and painless process as well.
Generally, registering and renewing a custom domain costs between $10 and $15 per year. For example, you can see GoDaddys pricing for different extensions below.
Now that we understand how the pricing of a custom domain name varies, lets walk through the process of getting one.

How To Choose The Right Domain Name
When choosing a domain name, it should be:
- Relevant to your content, service or business
- Easy to remember keep it short and catchy
- Easy to pronounce
- Easy to spell
- Not a violation of someone elses trademark
Shorter names make better domain names they are easier to type and less susceptible to mistakes. Longer domain names, on the other hand, have an advantage when it comes to keywords and search engines give preferences to keywords that are also found in your domain name.
Add Domain Privacy And Protection To Your Cart
Once youve decided on a name and begin to check out, its a good idea to add domain privacy and protection. Without it, your personal information will be listed in the public WHOIS database for anyone to view. This information is required by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers , which oversees and approves domain registrars.
With domain privacy and protection, your personal information will not be listed in the public database, which helps to prevent threats and attacks on your website.

Certificates For Custom Domain Names
To provide a certificate for a custom domain name in a Region where ACM is supported, you must request a certificate from ACM. To provide a certificate for a Regional custom domain name in a Region where ACM is not supported, you must import a certificate to API Gateway in that Region.
To import an SSL/TLS certificate, you must provide the PEM-formatted SSL/TLS certificate body, its private key, and the certificate chain for the custom domain name. Each certificate stored in ACM is identified by its ARN. To use an AWS managed certificate for a domain name, you simply reference its ARN.
ACM makes it straightforward to set up and use a custom domain name for an API. You create a certificate for the given domain name , set up the domain name in API Gateway with the ARN of the certificate provided by ACM, and map a base path under the custom domain name to a deployed stage of the API. With certificates issued by ACM, you do not have to worry about exposing any sensitive certificate details, such as the private key.
