How Does The Domain Name System Work
A domain name is the human-readable representation of an IP address. Its kind of like a name on your phones contact list.
For example, say you want to be able to call your father. Saving his number as Dad is easier than remembering his phone number. Now searching for Dad on your contact list will give you his number.
Domain names work the same way. So when you enter www.godaddy.com in your browser, youre actually dialing 208.109.4.218, the IP address for godaddy.com.
Your computer doesnt automatically know the connection between domain names and IP addresses. Instead, it acquires that information through the Domain Name System, or DNS.
This is how usually how it goes:
- You enter a domain on your browser like: www.godaddy.com
- Your computer checks if already knows the IP for www.godaddy.com
- If it does, it connects to the server.
- If your computer doesnt know the IP, it looks up the DNS record.
- The DNS provides the IP address to your computer.
- Your computer connects to the provided IP address.
Note: If a domain has not been registered, your browser will return a ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED error. You can check the status of a registered domain through GoDaddys WHOIS tool.

Add A Txt Record For Verification
Before you use your domain with Microsoft, we have to make sure that you own it. Your ability to log in to your account at your domain registrar and create the DNS record proves to Microsoft that you own the domain.
Note
This record is used only to verify that you own your domain it doesn’t affect anything else. You can delete it later, if you like.
To get started, go to your domains page at GoDaddy by using this link.
If you’re prompted to log in, use your login credentials, select your login name in the upper right, and then select My Products.
Under Domains, select the three dots next to the domain you want to verify, and then select Manage DNS.
Under Records, select ADD .
Choose TXT from the drop-down list.
In the boxes for the new record, type or copy and paste the values from the table.

Select Save.
Wait a few minutes before you continue, so that the record you just created can update across the Internet.
Now that you’ve added the record at your domain registrar’s site, you’ll go back to Microsoft and request the record. When Microsoft finds the correct TXT record, your domain is verified.
To verify the record in Microsoft 365:
In the admin center, go to the Settings> Domains.
On the Domains page, select the domain that you’re verifying, and select Start setup.
Select Continue.
On the Verify domain page, select Verify.

How To Edit Images In Godaddy Website Builder
To change or edit an image using the website builder, just click the image you want to edit and then click the image icon.
The Choose Photos modal will popup and this is where you can browse your computer or use on of Godaddys other services to insert images into your website.

Add Your Domain To Fastmail
We have a setup guide to help you get your domain working as quickly and easily as possible.
After you have purchased your domain from GoDaddy, log in to Fastmail and go to the Settings Domains screen.
Add your domain . Using the Add Domain button brings up the new domain screen. Type your domain into the text box.
If your domain has been purchased from GoDaddy, we will display this on the next screen. You can also choose GoDaddy from our list of supported registrars.
Follow the wizard to add your email addresses to Fastmail. To have the wizard provide you with steps to update your MX records by default, choose Yes when you are asked if you have a website.
Please note: The domain setup wizard can only set up aliases on legacy plans. If you are on a legacy plan, you will need to add users manually in order to create additional user accounts at your custom domain.

- If you already have a CNAME DNS record with www as Name, you can click on the Edit button to edit the existing entry and insert your school URL. However, if the entry currently points to another live website, this change will affect the site and it will not be reachable anymore.
- Once the new domain is ready, you and your users should use only this custom domain and not the LearnWorlds one you have been using until that moment.
- An SSL Certificate is issued for your custom domain so the whole site will be encrypted/secure. This greatly influences your school’s ranking in Google’s Search Engine.

Enter Smtp Server Information
Once youve entered your GoDaddy email, Gmail will ask you for your SMTP server information. In case you have no idea what this information is or where to find it, simply click on the Help button at the top of the screen and click on the button labeled Email Client Settings. There you will find your POP3 and SMTP settings.
Once on the settings page, click the button labeled Send through Address.com SMTP server. You should type in the name of your SMTP server and open the drop-down menu that follows to click on port 465. Then you can type in your GoDaddy domain email and your password and select the option Always use a secure connection when sending mail.

If you’ve set up your Thinkific site at the www address of your custom domain, sometimes you’d like to be able to access your Thinkific site with or without the www portion. To do so, you can simply use GoDaddy’s domain forwarding feature to set this up.
1. In your DNS settings, scroll to the bottom and look for the Forwarding section. Click Add beside the domain:

- Forward to: Choose https:// from the dropdown make sure you have on your Thinkific site. In the text field, enter your new custom domain that you just created, for example: www.customdomain.com
- Forward Type: Permanent
- Settings: Forward only
- Update my nameservers and DNS settings:leave this unchecked
3. Once you’ve done that, Save your changes and your site should now be available with or without the www in the custom url!
