How To Transfer A Domain Name

How to Transfer a Domain Name From One Registrar to Another EASY!

It’s one of the most basic aspects of web hosting, but most people do it so seldom that they probably need to relearn the process each time. These simple steps will help you transfer your domain name to a new home in no time.

Picture this: You’ve built an attractive, functional website on a server owned by a company that you once considered a reliable web host. Then, weeks, months, or years later, the service goes bad on you. It might be a question of hacks, slow load times, inconsistent uptimes, expensive prices, or unreliable customer support. Regardless, you’ll want to hightail it out of there for greener pastures. To do that, you need to transfer your website’s domain name to a new web host.

If you already have a domain name, you’ve probably already dealt with a registrar, a company that handles URL acquisitions. A registrar can be a standalone URL seller like NameCheap or a web hosting service that also offers domain names, such as GoDaddy . If your domain name is tied to a web hosting service, the desire to move it may come from one of the reasons mentioned above, or it might be due to rival hosts superior uptimes, load times, or feature sets.

Let’s get started.

    What Is A Domain Name

Without making things complicated, to put in simple words, a domain name is basically the name of a website. People across the world who use the internet can gain access to your official website because a domain name is an address. Identifying computers has become easier on the internet by using a domain name. Internet Protocol address is a string of numbers that a computer uses. Remembering the series of numbers could be difficult for the humans, and that is the sole reason for the development of domain name instead of IP address to find and identify computers.

    The Domain Transfer Process

How do I initiate my .UK Domain Transfer?

When you request a domain name transfer, this is the first action in a chain of events involved in transferring a domain:

    • You request transfer with new registrar
    • New registrar sends an email to the administrative contact in the WHOIS database, to approve transfer.
    • Administrative Contact confirms the transfer request and provides the AUTH code for the domain. It’s best to ensure you are listed as the administrative contact and obtain the unlock code from your current registrar before requesting transfer to ensure the request is confirmed. If confirmation is not received within five days, the transfer request will fail and you will have to initiate the request again.
    • The new registrar will then send an email to the organization that manages the TLD extension.
    • Provided there is no reason not to release the domain, the managing body will send an email to the old registrar, for confirmation of the release. At this point if no reply is received within five days, the domain will pass to the new registrar by default.
    • Your new registrar will send you an email notifying you the transfer is complete. In most cases the DNS information will be copied from the old registrar to the new as part of the process, but if this does not happen, you may need to log into your new registrar’s account control panel and enter the DNS information manually.
