Auction Vs Classified Listing/buy It Now

How you list your domain for sale will determine how much money you make from it. If you’re looking for a quick sale, the auction format will prompt people to act before the auction ends and they lose the chance. However, there is a risk that the sale will only reach $1, rather than $1,000.

Meta Domainer Review | How to Manage and Monetize Your Domains Easily

The domain name industry is quite similar to the real estate industry in a lot of aspects. There are end users, brokers, consultants and domain flippers or domainers. Domain flipping works similarly to buying a house, renovating it and then selling it again at a higher price point.

The gist of it is: youre purchasing a domain name and betting it is worth more than you paid for it.

If youre right, you get a nice paycheck and move on. It isn’t uncommon at all to get several hundred dollars a pop when selling a domain name. The right domain can sell for tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars or more.

Those who make a living out of this just rinse, repeat, and scale.

Where To Find Ideas For Domain Names To Register

There are several ways to find ideas for good domain names.

For instance, you can:

  • Browse domains that are currently selling or have recently been sold at marketplaces and directories such as Sedo, Flippa, and NameBio.
  • Look for expired/dropped domain names on websites like or
  • Analyze market trends and search queries to find potential domains that are likely to be more valuable in the future.
  • Go local. Local domain names have great value for local businesses. For instance:

Most domainers scour domain marketplaces and directories all day long looking for opportunities to buy an undervalued domain and then resell it. Exploring domain marketplaces is a relatively straightforward process.

Lets go ahead and do a practical walkthrough of something a little more complex: market trends and search query analysis.

Analyzing Market Trends to Identify Opportunities

Where do I start? So I heard about bitcoin and I know its all the craze nowadays. Lets start from there. Ill hop on and type in bitcoin.

Google Trends basically tracks the popularity of search queries over time, its often a goldmine for discovering currently exploding or soon-to-explode topics/terms, etc. So heres what it looks like:

As you can see from the screenshot, it appears that searches for ripple, another cryptocurrency, are quickly growing in popularity. Lets go to the , type in ripple and see what comes up:

Heres what it looks like:

Monetize Expired Domains With Text Link Ads

Another way to monetize expired domains is by selling links. Again, this is perhaps on the controversial side, but it’s a big business. You can sell links on forums or other places, but one of the most established link marketplaces is Text-Link-Ads.

I haven’t sold any links yet, but I’m close to testing this out. I have a site approved on the system and will likely be getting buyers very soon.

Again, this is more of an experiment at this point not sure how far I will take it.

However, the potential is big in selling links on Text Link Ads. A PR 3 site can easily bring in $20 to $30 a month, while a PR 4 site could top $50 a month.

Higher page rank domains will bring in exponentially higher dollars.

Imagine having several hundred PR 3 and 4 domains bringing in $20 to $50 a month not bad!

Now imagine taking a site that has been consistently earning $50 a month via text link ads, and flipping that domain!

If you can pull in 20 times monthly earnings, that’s $1,000 for a $10 investment in the domain. I’ll let you think about the possibilities there for a while.

Maybe flipping these types of monetized sites for 20 times earnings is not as easy, but some decent multiple is certainly doable.

Domain Parking And Cybersquatting

How to Monetize a Blog and Make Money in 2020! Ultimate Guide

The underbelly of domain parking is known as cybersquatting. This involves registering a domain using someone elses brand with the intent of profiting from it by selling it to the rightful owner. Typosquatting involves registering domains that contain typos with financial gain in mind. Misspelled domain names and domains that are similar to existing brand names are often misused as parked domains, and owners profit by picking up some of the web traffic of company sites, online stores, or information portals. Selling overpriced brand name domains and typo domains to the relevant rights holders is another example of such misuse.
