How to Use Gmail (FREE) for Your Custom Domain Email Address

Sign into your Gmail account. In the right hand corner click on the gear icon and select settings from the drop down menu.

From here you will want to select Accounts and Import and then click on Add another email address as shown in the picture below.

In the dialogue box designate what name and which email address you want to add to your account. Make sure Treat as an alias is selected and then click on Next step.

Under SMTP Server you will put your domain address and then for Siteground you will choose Port 465 from the dropdown menu. Enter in your username and password and select Secured connection using SSL and then click Add Account.

Next you will be sent an email with a verification code. In this case you have already forwarded your mail from the domain address to your gmail account. Check your gmail and enter in the code to Verify your email address.

Everything is now all set up and you are good to go. Now you can send an email from your gmail account using your domain email address. On desktop when you go to compose your email in the from section select your domain email from the dropdown arrow. When you send your email using Gmail it will show that your message is coming from your domain email address.

Bonus Tip: Setting Up Gmail As An Email Client

We believe you should check out Google Workspaces features even if you choose another email provider. Thats because you can still use Gmail as an email client, taking full advantage of itsinbox management capabilities even though the actual address is hosted elsewhere.

How to set up Gmail as a client using POP and SMTP

  • Open your Gmail account or sign up for free
  • Click on Accounts and then click on add an email account
  • Enter the email address and confirm that you want to import with POP
  • Enter your username, a password, the pop server settings from your provider and check the box to always use a secure connection
  • Google will then ask if you want to be able to send emails from that account. As you likely want to reply emails from the same address where your received them we recommend you to answer yes
  • Fill in the name you want to appear on your recipients inbox
  • Fill in the SMTP settings from your email provider and the same username and password provided on step 5 and check the Secured connection box
  • Now go to SMTP, provide all the SMTP server settings and go to Gmail for clicking on the confirmation link
  • On another tab go to your email providers inbox and check for an email from Google with a confirmation code
  • Enter the code to complete the final step on the previous tab.

For Those Using An Email Provider

Since every email provider does things differently, I won’t be able togive you a detailed description of what to do. Instead, I’ll tell you the general steps, so that you have anoverview of the entire procedure. Armed with that information, you will have a better idea of what to lookfor on your email provider and registrar’s websites.

There are essentially two things that you need to do. Set things up at your domain registrar’s end sothat mail sent to your domain is directed to your email provider. You will also need to set things up at youremail provider’s end so that they will actually accept the email sent to your domain.

Some email providers allow you to do this bypointing yourdomain to their service. The steps are the same, since you are essentially lettingyour email provider take over your website’s address, even if you don’t have one.

When you have done that, log into your account at yourdomain name registrar.

Add Mx Records For Email

Once youve verified your domain name, you also need to add another type of record called MX records so that Google Workspace can manage the email for your domain name.

You can do this via the same interface where you added the TXT record. Or, many web hosts include a built-in tool to help you add the Google Workspace MX records.

    How To Get An Edu Email Address
