All Squarespace plans include hosting for your site and its content in addition to unlimited bandwidth and storage. If you own a domain from a third-party provider, you can transfer it to Squarespace, or you can leave it registered and hosted with its provider and connect it to your Squarespace site.

Identify Pages To Keep And Remove

Transferring a website is a great opportunity for spring cleaning and removing any pages that dont add value to your website.

You can use Google Analytics to identify the flops – i.e. zero-traffic pages.

Identify high and low-viewed pages in Google Analytics

Head to Behaviour and then Site Content to get a page view report.

If your business is seasonal, make sure you edit the time range to get fair results.

Your Domains Current Host

There are a few more steps youll need to complete to transfer your domain, some of which must be done through your domains current host. After extending your domain name, follow the steps provided to:

• Make sure WHOIS privacy protection is disabled.

• Disable the registrar lock.

• Double check that your contact email address is correct and you have access to it.

• Get your domains authorization code from the current registrar and enter it to authorize the transfer process.

Youll also need to decide where to connect the domain name. You can choose to connect it to a Square Online site in your account, or leave the domain set up the way it is if you dont want to use it with a Square Online site.

Export Your Store Data From Squarespace

The first step in store migration is to export the product, customer, and order data from Squarespace. When your export is complete, your computer downloads two CSV files containing your Squarespace data, which you can use to import that data into Shopify.

How To Move Your Domain Name From Squarespace Without Downtime

Moving a domain name from one registrar to another can be tricky, especially if its something you dont do often. If the domain is attached to a live site, doing it wrong could result in downtime.

I wrote this guide for myself, to remind me of some of the gotchas associated with migrating a domain name from Squarespace, which probably the most frequent type of domain move that I do.

One big thing to realize is that the domain transfer process can take seven days or more to complete from the time you initiate it at the receiving registrar. Make sure you will be around during the whole process!

Another note is that the domain that you want to transfer must have been registered or transferred at least 60 days ago.

As mentioned earlier in this article, transferring your domain is a relatively straightforward process. You need to unlock the domain from the current host and authorize the transfer to the new one. The article covers the process in greater detail for some of the most common hosting services.

Set Up Google Analytics And Search Console

Youll want to set up Google Analytics and Search Console before your site goes live. This way youll be able to track your stats throughout the whole migration period when the two sites coexist.

I have mine set up through Rank Math which works great for me as it gives me more insight into the data from within my WordPress Dashboard. You can also enter your Google Analytics ID number into the Blocksy theme or get the Lyrical support team to enter it into the header for you.

Just make sure you only connect your Google Analytics and your site once or you will get all the wrong stats! If your traffic suddenly doubled and your bounce rate dropped to almost nothing, that is usually a sign that you have more than one GA tag active.

Basically, go back to your domain settings in Squarespace and uncheck the Whois Privacy and Lock Domain checkboxes.

You might as well uncheck Auto Renewas well.

When I did this, I did a whois to see if my contact info would show up for the domain name, but it didnt. Rest assured, the transfer can happen anyway. I found a Squarespace article that said:

After WHOIS privacy is disabled, your contact information will be hidden behind a Redacted for Privacy message, but your domain will be eligible for transferring to another host.

OK, youre done at Squarespace for now.

Squarespace is a comprehensive, subscription-based Content Management System that offers website design, hosting, eCommerce and analytics tools. Use the steps below to transfer your Shopify domain to Squarespace:

Can You Migrate Everything From Squarespace To WordPress

You can migrate a lot of your site automatically, but you cant perfectly migrate everythingat least not without a little elbow grease.

Heres the deal:

Squarespace makes it super easy to export your blog content and regular pages.

However, they do not let you export your:

• Index, product, event, or album pages
• Style changes
• Some blocks, like audio and product blocks

Additionally, you wont be able to export your actual Squarespace template.

So heres how the process will work:

For your blog content and basic pages, you can export from Squarespace and import to WordPress with an automated tool. You might be missing a few blocks depending on which blocks you use, but most of your content should come through automatically.

For other content, like product or event pages, youll need to manually move those over if you want to keep them.

And for your template and index page, youll need to choose a WordPress template that mimics the look of your Squarespace site. Or, you can use a visual design tool called a page builder to mimic your Squarespace template.

Below, well show you how to do all of that to ensure a complete migration. Well also cover some other important housekeeping.

Create An Account At The Destination Registrar

I use Namecheap as the domain name registrar for most of my clients because they are reliable and are reasonably priced. So, these instructions will refer to Namecheap but doing it elsewhere will be similar.

If Im doing a migration for a client, I have them create the account on Namecheap and enter their organizations credit card. Then I have them give me the login to take it from there. You can do the same with other registrars.

TIP: I make sure the domain name contact info is sent to my email address so I can monitor it during the transfer process.

How Do I Connect A Namecheap Domain Name To Squarespace

There are several occasions when it makes sense to keep Namecheap as your domain name registrar . The best solution in this case would be to point your Namecheap domain to your Squarespace site. To perform this connection, you need to change a few settings at Namecheap.
