How To Transfer Your Domain Name Away From GoDaddy

Some TLDs require that you provide an authorization code for your domain name, to provide an extra level of assurance that the transfer request comes from an authorized source.

To transfer a .com, .net, .org, .info, or .biz domain name, obtain the authorization code from Go Daddy:

On the “My domain names” page, click the domain you want to transfer.

In the “Domain Information” section, find the “Authorization Code” row and click “Send by email”.

To retag a .uk domain name:

Contact Go Daddy and ask them to retag the domain name to IPS tag ENOM.
Alternatively, you can retag/detag directly through Nominet, for a fee.
When you transfer a .uk domain name, use the Auto verification transfer method.
You can submit the transfer requests to eNom and Go Daddy in any order.
If you submit the transfer request to eNom first, you must submit the request to Go Daddy within a week.
If you submit the transfer request to Go Daddy first, you must submit the request to eNom by the next 8th day of the calendar month.

Transfers of TLDs other than those named above do not require any codes or tags.

Overview Of Steps To Prepare Your Registration For Transfer

There are a few steps that you need to complete before you submit the transfer request with your new registrar. This section is an overview of these steps, and the full steps are shown below in the following sections.

The following changes should be done for your domain name:

Unlock the domain registration for transfer in the panel at Registrations.

Obtain the auth code, which is also known as the EPP code from the panel on the Reg. Transfer page. You need this code in order to complete the transfer-in request at your new registrar.

The domain registration being transferred must not be within 60 days of the original purchase, or have been transferred to DreamHost within the last 60 days due to ICANN restrictions.

Important

After purchasing a domain, you must wait 60 days before you can transfer it to a new host. Disable Godaddy Whois Privacy Protection

If Whois Privacy Protection service for the domain is enabled, you will also need to disable it. When GoDaddy privacy protection is enabled, it is against their policy to allow domain transfers. Any GoDaddy Domain transfer requests submitted while DomainsByProxy is active, will be declined.

NOTE: Private Registration cancellations are irreversible. This means that once canceled, it can’t be enabled back and, if you decide to stay with GoDaddy, the private registration needs to be purchased again.

Remove Privacy Protection From The Domain

The domain transfer will automatically fail if the privacy protection is enabled on the domain name when the transfer request is initiated. All WHOIS information must be publicly visible for the transfer to go through successfully.

Privacy protection can be removed by clicking Remove privacy at the bottom of the Contact Information section, then confirming that privacy should be removed from the domain.

Verify And Update Your Contact Information

All communications regarding the domain name transfer, including the EPP/Authorization Code will be sent to the Administrative email address associated with the domain, so ensure that the contact information is up-to-date to complete the process.

Note:Changing the Organization name for the registrant contact, or the First name and Last name for the registrant contact if an organization isn’t the legal registrant for the domain name, will put the domain in a 60-day transfer lock.

Log in to your GoDaddy Domain Control Center
To select your domain name, click on it directly to access the Domain Settings page
Under Additional Settings, select Transfer domain away from GoDaddy:

After reviewing the transfer checklist, select Continue with the transfer
If your domain ends with .UK, you’ll need to enter the IPS tag* for your new registrar, then select Complete Transfer
Next, select to see , then Copy to Clipboard to copy your authorization code. GoDaddy should also send you an email with your authorization code to the administrative email address on your domain name.
Select My Domains to go back to your list of domains.

*IPS tag – Internet Provider Security tags are used by domain registrars to administer a domain name registration service and related Domain Name System services.

S To Unlock Your Domain On Godaddy

Step 1. Log in to your GoDaddy Domain Control Center

Step 2. Select your domain name

Now, select the domain name you want to transfer to another registrar. Doing this takes you to the Domain settings page.

Step 3. Click Additional Settings

Next, click Additional Settings and select Transfer domain away from GoDaddy.

Warning: If the option to transfer your domain away from GoDaddy is disabled, one of four things could be the cause. 1. You transferred your domain to Godaddy in the last 60 days. 2. You registered this domain with GoDaddy in the last 60 days. 3. You recently updated your domain contact information. 4. Your domain has Ownership Protection.

Note. GoDaddy requires all .UK domains to enter the IPS tag for your new registrar before the transfer can be completed.

Step 4. Get Authorization Code

Now, you can access your Authorization Code which is important for transferring your domain to your new registrar.

You can click on the Get Authorization Code button to copy the code to your Clipboard. Regardless, GoDaddy will send you an email with your Authorization Code immediately you click that button.

The email will be sent to the email address associated with your domain name.

Bravo! Your domain is now Unlocked!

The transfer process must now be completed on your new registrar. To do this, you must provide your new web host with the Authorization Code you just received from GoDaddy.

How to get your Authorization Code if your domain is on a 60-day lock

Unlock Your Godaddy Domain

We need to get an authorization code from GoDaddy to authorize AWS to transfer our domain to Route 53. We will use this code on AWS Management Console while making domain transfer request.

Again, on Domain Settings page, under Additional Settings, click on Get authorization code as I described below.

After this, GoDaddy will send another email to the domain owner that has the authorization code for transfer.

When Should You Start The Transfer

You cannot transfer a domain registration within 60 days of the original purchase or if it’s been transferred to DreamHost in the last 60 days due to ICANN restrictions.

DreamHost recommends that you initiate the transfer a full week before the domain is set to expire.

It can potentially take several days for the transfer to complete, so it’s best to start the process as soon as possible before the registration expires.

If you have a domain registered with GoDaddy and wish to transfer it to Wilkins IT Solutions for management, there are a few steps that need to be completed in order to achieve this. This post will walk you through the process.

Click on your account profile menu located in the top-right, then click My Products

Find the domains section in the list and click the Manage All link

If you just see a regular listing of your domains with no column for Lock listed, then click on the advanced view button

Locate the domain in the list for which youll be transferring and click the switch for Lock for it to turn the lock off

Once the domain is set to unlocked, click the ellipses icon beside the domain name, then click Domain Settings

Scroll down the page for the Additional Settings section. The Domain lock status should read as Off, if so click the Get authorization code link. This will be sent to the email address you have registered with GoDaddy for the domain. If you do not see the email then check which email address you have listed with GoDaddy.

Once you receive the code via the email, you can provide it to us in order to allow us to complete the transfer process
