Transfer Task : Obtain The Authorization Code Or Retag The Domain Name

How To Transfer Your Domain Name Away From GoDaddy

Some TLDs require that you provide an authorization code for your domain name, to provide an extra level of assurance that the transfer request comes from an authorized source.

To transfer a .com, .net, .org, .info, or .biz domain name, obtain the authorization code from Go Daddy:

  • On the “My domain names” page, click the domain you want to transfer.
  • In the “Domain Information” section, find the “Authorization Code” row and click “Send by email”.
  • To retag a .uk domain name:

    • Contact Go Daddy and ask them to retag the domain name to IPS tag ENOM.
    • Alternatively, you can retag/detag directly through Nominet, for a fee.
    • When you transfer a .uk domain name, use the Auto verification transfer method.
    • You can submit the transfer requests to eNom and Go Daddy in any order.
    • If you submit the transfer request to eNom first, you must submit the request to Go Daddy within a week.
    • If you submit the transfer request to Go Daddy first, you must submit the request to eNom by the next 8th day of the calendar month.

Transfers of TLDs other than those named above do not require any codes or tags.

Overview Of Steps To Prepare Your Registration For Transfer

There are a few steps that you need to complete before you submit the transfer request with your new registrar. This section is an overview of these steps, and the full steps are shown below in the following sections.

The following changes should be done for your domain name:

    • Wait for 24-48 hours after unlocking the domain to make sure it takes effect in WHOIS.

How To Transfer Your Domain Name Away From GoDaddy

I registered a domain name through GoDaddy, but recently have been hearing some things about the company that make me want to move the domain elsewhere to ensure I dont get into any sort of trouble with the company. How do I do that?

I have also heard mixed reviews of GoDaddy, one of the biggest and most well-known companies in the Web hosting business . Whether you need to transfer a domain away before you get into trouble with them, however, I dunno, that seems a bit drastic, but since those of us that own a bunch of domains often do transfer things from one registrar to another, its useful to document how to do this with GoDaddy anywayAs always, your first step is to log in to your GoDaddy account. Well, maybe your first step is to decide where you want to transfer the domain to, actually. For this example, Ill be transferring one of my domains, filmbuzz.org , from GoDaddy to Aplonis, my hosting admin company. On the Aplonis site is the following requirement that pops up when youre trying to arrange to have a domain transferred to their control:

Enter that into the field indicated on the form of the registrar to which you want to transfer your domain, press submit, and the wheels should be set in motion to have the domain transferred from GoDaddy to your new registrar.Looking for your own domain name instead? Disable Godaddy Whois Privacy Protection

If Whois Privacy Protection service for the domain is enabled, you will also need to disable it. When GoDaddy privacy protection is enabled, it is against their policy to allow domain transfers. Any GoDaddy Domain transfer requests submitted while DomainsByProxy is active, will be declined.

NOTE: Private Registration cancellations are irreversible. This means that once canceled, it can’t be enabled back and, if you decide to stay with GoDaddy, the private registration needs to be purchased again.

Remove Privacy Protection From The Domain

The domain transfer will automatically fail if the privacy protection is enabled on the domain name when the transfer request is initiated. All WHOIS information must be publicly visible for the transfer to go through successfully.

Privacy protection can be removed by clicking Remove privacy at the bottom of the Contact Information section, then confirming that privacy should be removed from the domain.
