I was recently asked this by a friend so I decided to create a little blog post to show others how to do it as well. Godaddy is pretty good at making things a bit difficult for beginners. Dont let their site confuse you, their domain services are actually really awesome.

When would I need to redirect/forward my domain?

Domain forwarding is useful when you want people to be redirected to another site.

For example, lets say you have multiple domains and you want to redirect or forward one of the domains to your main website.

For this example, Ill use one of my domains: dobetteronline.com

As you can see, I dont have a website built for that domain and I have it forwarded to this website .

So lets dig in on how to forward your domain on Godaddy!

Upload The WordPress Files

Next, were going to set up the files needed by WordPress. Download the latest version of WordPress from WordPress.org.

Return to your cPanel dashboard and click on your File Manager.

Once there, click on the public_html folder this is where you want to set up your files. Click Upload and upload the zip file you just saved from WordPress.org.

Once the file is finished uploading, return to the main File Manager window. Right-click on the file and select Extract. This will unpack all of the files needed by WordPress into your working directory .

Once finished, youll see a wordpress directory under your public_html folder. Click on that folder and select everything inside.

At the top of your screen, click Move and move all of the files into your pubic_html directory. You can delete the wordpress folder and the original wordpress zip file. If youve done everything correctly, you should now have a file structure that looks like this:

Whats The Difference Between Domain Forwarding And Masking

When you forward your GoDaddy domain, you can choose to Forward only or Forward with masking.

So whats masking? When you choose the Forward with masking option, you hide the destination domain from online visitors. They only see the domain they type into their browser bar.

Lets say youre using a free version of a website builder that places weebly or godaddysites in your domain name and you want to use your own personal domain. You can forward visitors who type your personal domain name into their browser to your free website, but mask that process so the browser continues displaying your personal domain name vs. the free one.

Usually, you should forward without masking because search engines like Google dont like it when you try to fool your visitors. Moreover, your website content appears to live on both your personal domain and the domain where it actually resides. Google views this duplicate content as a negative in terms of how it ranks your site.

How Do I Setup A Dedicated Godaddy Server

So now that we have covered, lets move onto dedicated server hosting.

After selecting the creating a WordPress website now you have to enter your credentials for your WordPress. Enter your WordPress Username and Password to login to your WordPress Admin Panel or Dashboard.

Click on Next, WordPress files will install on your server and getting ready to use.

After that, you will see a Successfully Complete message.

1. Log in to your GoDaddy Account and click Visit My Account.

2. Click Launch next to Domains.

If you are not redirected, just click on your name from the higher right side corner and click on My Products.

Then scroll a bit. And youll find the Domains section under All Products & Services. Simply click on the Manage button beside the domain name that you want to connect with HostGator.

It will redirect you to the Domain Manager page. Just scroll a bit and youll find Managed DNS under Additional Settings.

Then youll be redirected to DNS Management page. Just scroll a bit and youll find the Nameservers section.

Simply click on Change.

Then click on Enter my own nameservers .

Then enter HostGator nameservers there and click on Save.

Thats it. Your GoDaddy domain is connected with HostGator hosting. Now its time add the domain name to HostGator.

Setup User Name And Password

For the last step, specify the WordPress user information. This is the user name and password that you use every time you access your blog. You cannot modify the user name so choose wisely. The email address is where WordPress will send you notifications such as when someone leaves a comment on your blog. And of course, Blog Title is the title of your blog. Click the Next button to finish.

One: Purchase Hosting And Domain Name

1. Go to GoDaddy.com.

2. Select Hosting & SSL > Web Hosting.

DO NOT pick the options for Websites or WordPress Site/Blog.

3. Pick a hosting package that is right for you.

• If you only plan on owning one website, select an economy package.
