Any Way To Get Around 5 Day Wait On Domain Transfer
I am waiting on a domain to transfer from register.com to godaddy In my godaddy control panel under pending transfers it says Accept transfer at current registrar. I have contacted register.com and they say the only thing they can do to speed things up is acknowledge the transfer, which they have done, but it still make take up to 5 days. I need the transfer to go through because a website launch is being held up. Is there anything else I can do?
Sounds like you have done everything that you can do to get it to go through as quickly as possible. Any further action on your part is more likely to slow the process down rather than speed it up.
Transferring a domain between registrars should have no effect whatever on the web site that it is associated with which will still be accessible just the same throughout the transfer process so it should have no affect whatever on your launch provided that you had the nameservers pointing to the correct hosting before you started the domain transfer.
The nameservers were not pointing to the right place and that is the problem. I didnt realize that the domain would get stuck for 5 days and that I also would not be able to change any DNS records. That stinks!! Is there anyway around this or is my site just trapped for 5 days?
Unfortunately, you are at the mercy of the company you are leaving. The only thing you can do is wait and be patient.
Well lesson learned.
What Is A Domain Name Transfer
A domain name transfer is the process of transferring a domain name from one registrar to another. When you transfer a domain, you have a new registrar take over the management of that domain.
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers oversees all registrars. Websites cant exist without domains, so domain management must follow specific rules. Some of those rules limit when and how often you can conduct a transfer, which is why its helpful to have a guide like this one.

Godaddy Domain Transfer Fees
So, will GoDaddy charge you for domain transfer?
The answer depends on whether youre transferring to or from GoDaddy.
GoDaddy charge a flat fee for incoming domain name transfers and give you the first year with them for free. They dont charge for outgoing domain name transfers.
Transferring to GoDaddy:
If youre transferring a domain name from another registrar to GoDaddy, you will need to pay a flat fee. The flat fee excludes any applicable taxes and ICANN fees, and you get the first year of keeping your domain name with GoDaddy for free.
The free year of registration starts after your current registration expires. After that, you will have to pay an annual renewal for your domain name, which will vary depending on where you live and what the extension of your domain name is.
On the day of publishing this article, GoDaddys flat fee for .com domain names was $5.17 stateside.
Transferring from GoDaddy:
If youre transferring a domain name from GoDaddy to another registrar, you wont have to pay a dime extra to GoDaddy. You can unlock your domain name, get an authorization code, and confirm the transfer for free.
Check The Domain’s Contact Information Of The Domain Name
The contact information for your domain needs to be up-to-date so that the EPP code/Authorization Code can be emailed to you. If the contact information of your domain name is up-to-date, please proceed to Step 2.

Whats The Average Domain Name Transfer Time When Moving To A New Registrar
Lets imagine you own a new cake shop in Toronto and have registered a .CA domain with Namecheap. You have also got a .NYC domain that you registered years ago for a cake shop in New York, with a different registrar, like GoDaddy.
Now you want to switch domain hosts and transfer your domain from GoDaddy so that everything is in one place and easy to manage.
Youll be keen to know the average domain transfer processing time so you can estimate how long it will take to complete the transfer.
The truth is that domain registrar transfer time can vary, but here at Namecheap, it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to six days after we receive a domain transfer request.
Whatever top-level domain you want to transfer, whether you register a .AI for your robot dog shop, or you choose a .IO TLD for your photography portfolio, as long as your domain is eligible and unlocked, it wont be long before the process completes.
Disable Godaddy Whois Privacy Protection
If Whois Privacy Protection service for the domain is enabled, you will also need to disable it. When GoDaddy privacy protection is enabled, it is against their policy to allow domain transfers. Any GoDaddy Domain transfer requests submitted while DomainsByProxy is active, will be declined.
NOTE: Private Registration cancellations are irreversible. This means that once canceled, it can’t be enabled back and, if you decide to stay with GoDaddy, the private registration needs to be purchased again.

Transferring My Domain Registration Away From Godaddy
Before attempting to transfer a domain away from GoDaddy, you must complete the following steps.
- After purchasing a domain, you must wait 60 days before transferring it to a new host. This is not a HostGator-specific rule but rather a rule implemented by ICANN, which governs domain registrations. Please review ICANN’s Policy on Transfer of Registrations between Registrars for more information.
- Wait for 24-48 hours after unlocking the domain to ensure it takes effect in WHOIS.

Things To Know About Transferring A Domain
Transferring a domain from one registrar to another can be a scary thing. You have domain names that you want to make sure stay operational during the transfer and you want to know that your domain will be safe. I’ve put together this blog post to help clarify how the transfer process works.
Here are a couple of things that you should know about before transferring a domain:
- When you transfer a domain the name servers for the domain will not be changed. This is a good thing if your domain is already hosted by a DNS provider that you use and trust. On the other hand, if you are using your registrar’s name servers then you should switch to DNSimple’s name servers before you start your transfer because they will likely turn off your DNS records either during the transfer process or shortly after the transfer completes.
- Your domain must be more than 60 days old and cannot have been transferred within the last 60 days.
- Your domain must be unlocked before you start your domain transfer.
- Certain registrars such as GoDaddy require that you remove whois privacy protection before attempting to transfer a domain.
- For many domains you’ll need an authorization code from your current registrar and you have to submit with your domain.
Your current registrar may reject the transfer due to the following reasons:
P.S. If you’re interested in the finer details of domain transfers then take a look at ICANN’s transfer policies: http://www.icann.org/en/transfers/policy-12jul04.htm.

Prepare To Transfer The Domain Safely And Easily
Before continuing with the domain transfer, keep in mind that when a domain name is transferred away, the nameservers associated with your domain stay the same during its transfer from one registrar to the other. For example: if your domain name is using the default nameservers of GoDaddy, those nameservers will be preserved during the domain transfer, and thus you will not be able to change the nameservers until the transfer is complete.
This means that if you switched to another web hosting provider and your website was already migrated, make sure that your domain name is pointed to the new hosting provider before initiating a domain transfer. Again, you wont be able to change the nameservers until the domain transfer is complete.
Domain Name Registration and Web Hosting are separate services. The domain name transfer process will not migrate your website automatically. If you are a FastComet customer and you wish to transfer your website from GoDaddy, please submit a migration request from your client area. Our transfer experts will move your existing sites and emails free of charge, seamlessly, and with no downtime.

Checking The Process Of The Domain Transfer
With GoDaddy, it is really easy to check how the transfer is going.
All you have to do is log in to your GoDaddy transfer page and select Transfer In. As the domain is transferring into your GoDaddy account.
You can then select various tabs to review the details or statutes of all of your domains.
Is It Possible To Complete A Domain Transfer Instantly
No, it cant be transferred instantly, but the quickest a domain pending for transfer can complete is 30 minutes, which isnt too much time to wait! So, if your domain is ready for transfer, its unlocked, and you have your authorization codes at the ready, youre good to go.
Please be aware that some top-level domain names like .ES and .UK have additional transfer requirements that may mean they are excluded from the regular transfer rules. This may mean that the waiting period for the transfer process to complete may be faster than expected.

Don’t Want To Wait Five Days Expedite Your Transfer
Now that youve initiated the transfer, it can take up to five business days to complete. Fortunately for you, GoDaddy usually doesn’t make you wait five days.
Follow this guide to manually expedite the transfer. GoDaddy calls this “approving” the transfer.
You can check on the status of pending transfers by logging into your Porkbun account and clicking “transfer” at the top of the page.
Warning: If your domain expired before the transfer was accepted, you no longer have the ability to expedite the transfer.
Request Epp Code/authorization Code
Most domain registrars require an EPP code/authorization code to transfer a domain name. This provides an extra layer of security and protects the domain against unauthorized transfers.
