Move A Squarespace Domain
If we host your domain, use the steps and information in this section to move your domain to a different site.
Before you begin, ensure that your Squarespace domain meets these requirements:
- The domain must be active. It’s not possible to move an expired domain.
- You must be the site owner or have Administrator permissions on both sites.
- The sites must be on the same Squarespace account. If the site you’re moving to isn’t on your account, request to be added as a contributor with Administrator permissions.
Start with the site where your domain is currently linked:
Note: If you dont see a Move Domain to Another Site button, you dont have another site with a on your account. Review your sites in your account dashboard and upgrade your trial site, if needed, before moving the domain.
Your domain should connect to the new site within 24 hours, but it can take up to 72 hours.
After moving your domain, you can cancel service or change the billing plan for your other site, if needed.
If you have a Google Workspace subscription attached to your domain, ensure it meets the requirements to move automatically.
Here’s How You Do It:
From the main dashboard go to Settings > Domains > and click “Get A Domain”
From there you’ll start typing in the domain you want then Squarespace will show you if its available or not. They’ll even show you other options/variations that are available.
When you’ve found one you want to purchase, simply click it, scroll down and click “Proceed To Checkout” then follow the prompts.

Heres How To Set It Up:
First, make sure youve already set up your domain in Squarespace, then get to your Email dashboard by clicking Settings > Email.Select what plan you want then create your account . Click continue, review your order then click purchase.Youll receive a temporary password at your old email address . Follow prompts from that email to log in with your temporary password. Youll have to accept G Suites terms of service then youll be prompted to create a new password and directed to your new inbox. Editing Your Cname Entry
You almost certainly already have a CNAME entry set up in your domain’s Zone File for www. You will edit this existing CNAME to direct traffic to ext-cust.squarespace.com.

What Happens If My Renewal Fails
If we can’t charge the credit card on file for your site, your domain will remain active and past-due for 15 days. We’ll make additional attempts to charge your card every five days after the initial failed charge. After the third attempt, 15 days after the payment was due, the domain will no longer resolve to your site. We highly recommend that you keep an active, valid credit card on file to ensure uninterrupted service.
After 15 days, you’ll have a 30-day grace period in which you can reactivate your domain from your Domains panel. After 30 days , the domain will be released back to the registrar.
Set Up The Domain Name At The New Registrar
At this point, youll need to set up the domain name at your new registrar. Namecheap is an industry standard in domain names, and I highly recommend them.
Right in Namecheaps main menu is a link called Transfer to Us. Hover over that and select Transfer Domain.
Enter the name of the domain to transfer and follow the instructions. Youll be asked to enter the transfer key that you got from Squarespace.

Create A Squarespace Account
At this point, Squarespace will prompt you to create an account. Albeit, proceeding to fill and submit the form means that youve agreed to Squarespaces Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. So, you might want to read them up before you proceed.
If youre OK with their ToS and Privacy Policy, then go ahead and create an account.
If you take the Continue with Google route, it will sync with your Google account and log you in immediately. You can also sign up with other accounts apart from Google.
If you prefer to sign up with your Apple, Facebook, or Twitter accounts, click More Options and then select your preferred account. Otherwise, use your email address.
If you select Continue with Email, a signup form will appear. Fill that form if you prefer to create an account with your email address.
How To Connect A Squarespace Site To A Third
Squarespace allows you to register a domain with them directly, but you dont have to. Many people register domain names with other registrars before they even set up a website, and many others have websites hosted on other services and want to transfer to Squarespace. There are a handful of reasons for this – sometimes the registrar has better features or privacy, sometimes its for consolidation purposes, or sometimes its simply because its an old domain that theyve had for a while.
Luckily, its relatively easy to connect your domain to your Squarespace account.
The first thing to know is the difference between transferring a domain and connecting a domain.
Transferring a domain means taking it out of the control of the registrar and putting it in the hands of Squarespace. This gives you the benefits of having a domain through Squarespace, such as WHOIS protection, centralized billing, and free SSL.
On the other hand, Squarespace has some restrictions on what domains they will host. They also will not transfer domains with registry premium, do not accept most country-code TLDs , and cant have your domain registered for less than 60 days. This isnt exactly a Squarespace-specific restriction, though – most major registrars have this restriction in place, and it is up to the individual registrars.

Change Your Primary Domain For Google Workspace
