What Is A Company Domain Name In Hubspot

Don't Miss

Addon Domain Vs Parked Domain

How to add a company in HubSpot @HubSpot

Before we wrap up, theres one final distinction worth making: addon domains vs. parked domains. Youll see both of these options in your cPanel account. While similar, theyre meant for separate things.

A parked domain is any domain name that is not linked to any unique website or web service. Parked domains may not be linked to any page, or they could serve as an alias for another, primary domain.

An addon domain, on the other hand, is meant for showing a completely separate website from other domains. You can add an addon domain through your cPanel, and this lets you control settings for multiple websites from the same control panel.

To summarize, parked domains are multiple domains for the same website, while addon domains are multiple domains for different websites .

How To Create A Domain Alias

A domain alias is an alternative domain name that serves the same content as a primary domain name for example, getproduct.com can be the domain alias for product.com. If a user were to enter both of these domains into their browser, they would see the same web page under both URLs.

You can set your domain aliases in your server control panel, the most popular one being cPanel. To create a domain alias in cPanel:

1. Log in to your cPanel account.

2. In the main window under Domains, select Aliases.

3. Under Create a New Alias, enter your domain alias in the text box and click Add Domain. Youll see your new parked domain added to a list of domain aliases. For each alias, you can set a redirect or delete the alias.

An important note: As cPanel instructs, for your new domain alias to work you must point the new domain to your hosting accounts nameservers. Otherwise, your website will not load under this alias.

What Is A Subdomain Name

A subdomain name is a piece of additional information added to the beginning of a websites domain name. It allows websites to separate and organize content for a specific function such as a blog or an online store from the rest of your website.

A domain name typically has two parts: The top-level domain is the extension, such as .com or .org, and the second-level domain is the unique part of the domain name, often a business or brand name. In the hubspot.com example, com is the TLD and hubspot is the SLD.

The subdomain is what goes before the SLD. The most common subdomain is www, which stands for World Wide Web. This subdomain contains a websites homepage and its most important pages. The www subdomain is so widely used that most domain registrars include it with domain name purchases.

Subdomains are also commonly used to separate a section of a website from the main site. For example, blog.hubspot.com and shop.hubspot.com direct to our blog and online store respectively.

When we group our domain name and subdomain with a protocol at the beginning and an optional file path at the end, we have a complete URL:

How Do Domains Work

Domain names work by acting as a shortcut to the server that hosts your website.

Without a domain name, anyone who wanted to visit your website would have to enter the full IP address. But the problem is that an IP address is difficult for people to memorize or to include on advertising materials.

In our case, Hostinger.com is the domain name. Lets say it points to the IP address 100.90.80.70. The IP address points to a server, but it doesnt resolve the website if visitors try to use it. Thats because for an IP address to resolve a website, the remote server needs to be using port 80 with a default page stored in its web-apps directory.

As you can see, messing around with server defaults and IP addresses can be both confusing and time-consuming. Thats why the vast majority of website owners opt to utilize a service like Hostinger which offers bundled domain names with annual web hosting packages.

Domains can also use redirects, which essentially allow you to specify that if people visit your domain, theyre automatically forwarded to another. This can be useful for campaigns and microsites or for forwarding people to dedicated landing pages on your main site. They can also come in useful for avoiding confusion around spellings. For example, if you visit www.fb.com, youll be forwarded to www.facebook.com.

A Cms Built On Top Of A Crm

Your website and CRM should work in conjunction. This is why the CMS Hub is built on top of a single unified database, the HubSpot CRM. All of the data you have on your contacts can be used to create better and more personalised experiences for each contact.

All of your contacts interact with your website, which is why you need to track each interaction and touchpoint each contact to be able to understand, analyse, and report on what is working. A CRM-CMS integration will give you insights into what channels and content are working, which will inform you on how to improve your overall customer acquisition strategy.

While most you can integrate most content management systems with CRMs and CMS through either a plugin or a simple code snippet, the HubSpot CRM and CMS are integrated out of the box and can be found under the same login.

Gtld: Generic Top Level Domain

A gTLD is essentially a top-level domain that doesnt rely on a country code. Many gTLDs are intended for a specific use-case, such as .edu which is aimed at educational institutions. That said, you dont have to meet any specific criteria to register a gTLD, which is why a .com domain might not necessarily be used for commercial purposes.

Other examples of gTLDs include .mil , .gov , .org , and .net, which was originally designed for internet service providers but is now used more widely.

To Send Users To The Same Website As A Primary Domain

HubSpot Marketing Hub: Adding Your Subdomains

As mentioned, a parked domain can serve as a secondary domain for another primary domain. This parked domain points to the same IP address as the primary domain, and serves the same website as the primary domain.

Its common for companies to purchase multiple parked domains with similar names to their primary domain for example, a website with the primary domain product.com might also register other domains like:

  • getproduct.com
  • product.co

These domains are then set as aliases for product.com.

This tactic directs those who misremember or mistyped the primary domain to the correct website. Its also useful for marketing campaigns an alias like the getproduct.com domain can be a clever promotional tool.

Lastly, reserving aliases protects against cybersquatting. Cybersquatting is the practice of purchasing domains that are variants of a business primary domain name, then attempting to sell them back to the business. This may damage brand credibility, as cybersquatters can do whatever they want with this domain until your buy it back. Purchasing several related domains at once and connecting them to your site reduces the chances of this happening to you.

Custom Objects Serverless Functions And Memberships

A huge feature that was announced at INBOUND 2020 was custom objects. In addition to Contacts, Companies, Deals, Products, and Tickets, you can now create custom objects tailored to your business needs. This puts HubSpot into the same category as Salesforce and Microsoft CRM, where Enterprise users can have the ability to store and sort any relevant data with different levels and associations in one simple interface.

Let’s say you are offering an IoT product on a subscription model. You have different types of levels of subscription based on the bandwidth the customer needs. In this case you could create a Subscription custom object, then create properties such as start and renewal date.

This will allow you to create workflows and reports based on this data, helping you to report on the average customer lifetime value, churn rate, or renewal rate. Custom object data can also be displayed on web pages or in emails so that you can present the most relevant information to your prospects or customers.

Another big enterprise feature in the CMS is serverless functions. Without going too much into thetechnicalities of serverless functions, it allows you to add interactive elements to your website such as event registrations, complex data calculators, display data from other applications, send data to other systems, or collect and store data in HubDB or the CRM without needing to configure an external server.
