Shopify enables you to manage all your domain settings on the Domains page in your Shopify admin.
A primary domain is the domain name on Shopify that customers often see in the address bar while they browse your online store. In some cases, you are able to use your root domain or a subdomain as your primary domain, however, there is only one primary domain for you to use in most cases.
From the Domains page of your Shopify admin, you can assign your primary domain. Then, before you decide to set a primary domain, make sure that you have done these actions so that Shopify can manage your domain.
- buying a domain through Shopify or from a third-party
- adding your domain and all the subdomains you want to use with your store
- setting up your root domain
- setting up your subdomains.

Transfer My Domain Away From Godaddy
Transfer your domain from GoDaddy to another registrar by using our transfer away checklist. You won’t be able to transfer your domain away if it’s within 60 days of registration or a previous transfer, or if a 60-day lock was applied after updating domain contact information. You’ll need to verify your identify to confirm the transfer if your domain has Domain Protection enabled.
Note: You’ll need to verify your identity if you have domain protection on your domain. Do I Have To Redirect Every Url From My Old Site
Not necessarily.
Heres the rule: redirect every URL that has a clear corresponding page on the new site. 404 everything else.
Whats a 404?
That just means removing the page so that your site returns a 404 message any time someone tries to access that URL. It tells people that theres nothing there.
A few years ago, I was very anti-404. I used to think that every single URL needed a proper redirect and I went a bit overboard on a site. Eventually, our hosting provider reached out and told us that we had too many redirects on our site we needed to cut them down to 1,500. We had about 2,500 at the time.
They were right, we did have too many. I was paranoid about trying to help users land on the right page. I was also worried about losing any traffic from Google and I thought 404s might reduce our rankings. I was wrong on both counts.
First, users struggle a lot more with weird redirect paths than a 404. A 404 gives a super clear message: the page youre looking for doesnt exist. A weird redirect is really tough for a user to understand.
Second, Google prefers 404s for pages that no longer exist. Its a clear signal for them and they dont reduce rankings for sites that have 404s. Theyve publicly stated numerous times how they only want sites to add redirects for pages that have a one-to-one relationship.

Order statuses are a tad different in Big Cartel than they are in Shopify, so you can choose what you want them to convert into when everything gets moved over. If you want to transfer your domain to a different registrar, all of the following requirements must be met to complete the process.

It is extremely important that you confirm your domain admin email address before proceeding.You must be able to receive your Auth-Code to transfer your domain. You will use this code to confirm ownership with the new registrar.Your domain contact information can be accessed on the left.
It is mandatory that you have access to the Administrative email address in order for a successful transfer. You can view and edit your email address to each tab individually or all at once, depending on which tab you have selected.

Disable Godaddy Whois Privacy Protection
If Whois Privacy Protection service for the domain is enabled, you will also need to disable it. When GoDaddy privacy protection is enabled, it is against their policy to allow domain transfers. Any GoDaddy Domain transfer requests submitted while DomainsByProxy is active, will be declined.
NOTE: Private Registration cancellations are irreversible. This means that once canceled, it can’t be enabled back and, if you decide to stay with GoDaddy, the private registration needs to be purchased again.

As discussed, I have got an update from an engineer from our Product team, and as you know that unfortunately up until Today we still do not support any domain transfer-in to Azure and we dont have an ETA for when it will be supported. Currently, there is no workaround for that as well.
We have also updated our internal team to disable the blade on Azure where it says since it is not supported. Your feedback is taken into consideration as well.

Obtain Your Domain Transfer Authorization Code
To obtain your authorization code, this will be done once again on your Domain Settings page. Once on your Domain Settings page, you will again go to your Additional Settings section and then click on the option for Get Authorization Code. While you can most definitely transfer your GoDaddy domain to Shopify, Im afraid its not possible to transfer over the GoDaddy website you created. This is because Shopify websites are built on a unique code language called Liquid.
Instead, youll just need to select a theme from our Theme Store, where youll find a collection of both free and premium themes. Once you choose a theme, you can use our user-friendly Theme Editor to easily customize the content and structure of your pages. This should help you achieve something pretty similar to what you currently have with GoDaddy.
