Hello,

I currently own the domain “yourfluffyfriend.com” which I bought it through Shopify. Yesterday, I purchased the domain “yourfluffyfriend.co.uk” from Google but I can’t figure out how to add it to my Shopify account. It’s the same store but two different domains.

When I try to forward the “.co.uk” domain to Shopify, Google asks me to delete the supscription of “.com” domain with Shopify in order to move forward. Please advise!

Hi, Ahoo!

Ted here from Shopify. 🙂

No problem at all! You will first need to log into your Google domain’s admin and point the A record and CNAME to Shopify’s information, as shown in this guide. Once pointed, you can then connect the domain to your Shopify admin as shown here.

Let me know how this goes! We’re here 24/7 and happy to help.-Ted

Hello, I know this is an old thread.

Want to find out something.

So it is possible to have 2 different domains linked in shopify to the same store?

Thanks,

Hi Ted,

Thank you for the reply.

I had a look at the guide to point my 3rd party domain to shopify. I need some assistance.

Their are multiple A records with a few different IP addresses – must I change all to Shopify’s IP or only the one that has my actual website domain as the name e.g. abcd.com

Thanks,

Change The Store Email Address

Steps:

  • From your Shopify admin, go to Settings.
  • From the Shopify app, go to Store> Settings.
  • Under Store settings, tap General.
  • From the Shopify app, go to Store> Settings.
  • Under Store settings, tap General.
  • Click General.

  • In the Store details section, change your email address under Store contact address or Account email. This will be the email that Shopify uses to contact you about your account.

    Note

If you haven’t , then the Account email displays instead of Store contact address.

  • Click Save.

  • Go to your new email account’s inbox, and click the link in the verification email from Shopify.

  • Note

To change the email or password that the store owner uses to log in to Shopify, you need to change the information in their account settings.

Preparing Financials For Pitching On National Tv

Shuang: For the different stages of growth, you mentioned year three, six figures, last year, multimillion in sales. At which point have you thought about external fundraising and what efforts have you guys taken for those fundraising times?

David: We’ve thought about fundraising in many ways, at many points in the business. And right now we’ve bootstrapped the whole thing but last year, last summer in August, we actually signed up and we got accepted and we went on Dragons’ Den. So, at that point, we were on pace to do about $2 million in the year. We went on there with a fair valuation, we thought our pitch was great. They saw the value in the company and saw the valuation was really fair. So, we actually did get a deal on Dragons’ Den and that would’ve been, imagine the years, $2 million in sales. So, some people will raise money at that point. We thought maybe if we get money, it would be a good idea and we could put it into this investment or that investment. We went on the show, got a deal. It was excellent, we had great publicity from it. The partner was Arlene, with who we got a deal.

    How To Update Cname Record

Changing Your Domain Name? Hereâs What You Should Be ...

With regard to all the domains that are purchased from any 3rd party vendor such as Fatcow, Hostgator, GoDaddy, and more, you need to get your DNS settings updated and point your A record to Shopifys IP address and CNAME record to shops.myshopify.com

    • Step 1. Go to your Domain provider website and sign in to the account with the new Shopify store domain.

    • Step 2. Search for DNS settings.

You are allowed to locate your domain account admin panel or the domain management area or DNS configuration, and more, on your own.

    • Step 3. When choosing DNS settings, look for a list of editable fields or a table or checkboxes or drop-downs

    • Then, add the IP address of Shopify in the destination field Shopifys IP Address: 23.227.38.32
    • Save the recently added A record

    • Step 4. Now, to point it to Shopify, you need to add CNAME

    • Locate CNAME record and get the WWW CNAME record updated to point to shops.myshopify.com

Note: Some domain providers have a Name field with a CNAME record, then add a relevant Name if it is shown.

    • Save the CNAME Record

Good job! The CNAME record is now added successfully. Once it is added, you can proceed to verify your new domain for your Shopify store.

    Buying A Domain Through Shopify

To help you set up your domain and manage all your domain settings from your Shopify admin, you can buy a domain through Shopify. If this domain is the first domain that you add to Shopify, then it’s automatically configured to be the web address thats displayed to customers. If you already use a domain with your store, then the new domain automatically redirects to your primary domain.

After you buy your domain through Shopify, you can do the following tasks on the Domains in your Shopify admin:

    • editing your domain settings
    • setting up forwarding email addresses
    • paying for your domain
    • renewing your domain

Domains purchased through Shopify are registered for one year, and can be renewed annually. After you buy a domain, you cant change the URL that you chose during purchase. Domain purchases are non-refundable.

Does Shopify Provide A Free Domain

When you register on Shopify, you technically get a free domain. This free domain runs on the Shopify Domain Services and your store URL will end in .myshopify.com. So if your store name is The Greatest Store, your free Shopify domain will be thregreateststore.myshopify.com.

You can keep using this free domain until you are ready to launch your brand. Also, you get to test Shopifys services while using this free extension before you commit.

Ultimately, you will need to buy a custom domain when you are ready to launch your brand. The free .myshopify.com extension is not memorable or extendable.

How much does it cost to buy a domain on Shopify?

Buying a domain name from Shopify is going to cost you around $14 per year. Your domain name registration will expire after a year and you will need to renew it before the expiry date.

Actually, domain name pricing on Shopify starts at $11 per year but the exact amount will depend on the top-level domain extension you choose. For the exact price of your domain name and availability, use Shopifys domain name generator.

Note that you cant change the URL of your domain after purchase and domain purchases through Shopify are non-refundable.

Typically, renewal fees are higher than the registration rates and will depend on the type of domain you opt for such as .com, .ca, or .biz. Except the renewal fee to be somewhere between $18 $25.

Cancel Your Subscription And Close Your Shopify Store

If you don’t want to run your online store anymore, then you can close it at any time. After you close your store, you won’t have access to your Shopify admin. If you want to log back in, then you will have to enter your credit card details and reactivate your store.

If you close your online store, then you can’t create a new online store that uses the same store name or the same myshopify domain.

    Note

For security reasons, Shopify Support can’t cancel your store for you, you need to close the store yourself. If you have any questions about the process, then you can contact Shopify Support.

Before you close your store, consider the following:

If you transfer your domain to another platform that uses HTTPS, then you don’t need to take any additional steps.

If you transfer your domain to a platform that doesn’t use HTTPS, then for the next 90 days, an error message is displayed in the browser when anyone attempts to visit your domain. The error message might state that the site is not trusted or that the certificate is not valid. Wait until the 90 day period is over, or consider transferring your domain to a platform that supports HTTPS.

    Steps:

    Search Your Store Domain Now

Connect Shopify Site To Domain Name

Search for your business name or category. cookies.store or summercookies.store

However, finding the name of your choice on traditional domain extensions may seem challenging due to the unavailability of names and high costs.

This is why you should explore your options on new domain extensions such as .store.

As a domain that is meaningful and definitive of what you do, the .store domain makes for a relevant choice for your Shopify Store.

Check Your Domain’s Eligibility For Transfer

You can check whether your domain is eligible for transfer from your Shopify admin. Some domains, such as .ca and .co.uk domains, aren’t eligible for transfer.

    Steps:

  • From your Shopify admin, click Online Store> Domains.
  • Click Connect existing domain.
  • On the Connect existing domain page, click transfer in your domain.
  • In the Transfer domain dialog box, enter the domain that you want to transfer to Shopify. Don’t include www. at the beginning of the domain.
  • Click Next.
  • If the domain isn’t eligible for transfer, then a banner states that your domain extension isn’t currently supported. Instead, you can connect your third-party domain to Shopify.

Pause Your Store And Continue To Work On It

    Note

To be eligible for the Pause and Build plan, your store needs to be on a paid plan and at least 60 days past the free trial period. If your store doesn’t meet these criteria, then you can’t pause your store.

When you use the Pause and Build plan, your store continues to run at a reduced cost of $9 USD per month. You can access your Shopify admin and edit your products when you need to, but your checkout is disabled. This means that customers can review your products, but they can’t purchase them.

While you’re on the Pause and Build plan, you can do the following:

    • Access your Shopify admin.
    • Access basic reports about your site’s performance.
    • View your online storefront.

While your store is paused, you can’t use online store checkout, POS, discounts, abandoned checkout recovery, gift cards, or third-party integrations such as Facebook and Google to publish your products. You can send draft order invoices, but the customer won’t be able to complete the checkout process and draft orders can’t be converted to live orders.

    Caution

Consider uninstalling any third-party apps that have recurring charges so that you’re not billed for those apps after you pause your store.

    Steps:

  • Log in to your store as the store owner.

  • From your Shopify admin, click Settings> Plan.

  • Click Pause or cancel subscription> Pause and build plan.

  • Carefully review the plan details, and then click Switch to Pause and build.
