How To Find Your Registrar

How to Find Out Where Your Domain Name is Registered
  • It’s likely you have received invoices for your domain name by email it is best to search your email history for these emails to find out the registrar/company you are using. Try searching for your full domain name as a starting point. You should have an email from them with the original account creation and billing information which you can use to log in and gain access.
  • Failing this you can do a WHOIS lookup, the easiest way to do this is through the lookup website , enter your top-level domain name, for example, “mydomain.com” and click search. Look for the Registrar information this shows the company that the domain is currently hosted with. If this looks foreign check the Admin, Technical and Billing contacts and email addresses for any company name that looks familiar. You may also find a colleague’s details which you can use to track things down further.
  • Some WHOIS lookups don’t return the results you might be looking for, instead, they return a link to a provider website where you can then search for the specific details. For example, most Australian .au domain names are like this. In the public WHOIS results, you might receive a message like “Visit whois.ausregistry.com.au for Web-based WhoIs” which requires you to go to that website to perform the search and get the full results. It just depends where your domain is registered and how much information they make publicly available.

How Do I Permanently Buy A Domain Name

Its not possible to permanently own a domain name since its not a one-time purchase the maximum period of registration is ten years. You will need to pay and renew your subscription if you want to keep using the same domain name. This is to cover the maintenance costs or domain tax collected by the ICANN.As the number of registered domains grows, the tax increases. Hence, registrars need to adjust their pricing accordingly, which is why the renewal fees are more costly than the registration prices.

Can I Transfer My Domain Name To Hostinger

Yes, its possible to transfer a domain name from another registrar to Hostinger.

However, there are a few requirements before transferring a domain to your web hosting account:

  • More than 60 days must have passed from the registration or last transfer date.
  • You must have the domains auth-code from your current registrar.
  • The domains WHOIS privacy protection has to be disabled.
  • You have to point your domain name to Hostinger.
  • The domains status cannot be Pending Delete or Redemption.

To transfer a domain to Hostinger, go to the Hostinger Transfer Domain page and enter your domain name. Then click Transfer.

After finishing the order and entering the domain EPP code, the transfer process will begin and youll receive an email regarding the domain transfer that you will have to confirm.

The domain registration will also be renewed for a year after the transfer, except for ccTLDs like .es, .co.uk, or .com.br.

Keep in mind that your website might be unavailable during the DNS changes, which can take up to 24 hours to propagate fully.

Tips For Choosing A Registrar

Determine which services you require

You may want services like email hosting or support offered in French, so find out what each registrar offers. Remember, if you registered your .CA domain name as an individual you have free WHOIS privacy protection already included.

Check references

Seek out customer reviews and testimonials, and ask friends or colleagues for a recommendation. You may find that some registrars come highly recommended by your peers. If you make a mistake, you can always transfer your .CA domain to another registrar.

Shop around

Shop around to get a good understanding of how much your domain name, and additional services, will cost. Registrars may offer bundles, packages, or special promotions. Keep in mind that cheapest isnt always necessarily best.

My Domain Name Registrar Or Previous Host Has Disappeared

How I Sell My Domain Names.

First, look up the domain record of your domain to determine the following things. You can look up your domain at InterNIC.

  • Who is the registrant contact on the account? If it’s you, this is a good sign. If it’s not you, because your previous host or registrar purchased it in their name, that’s a bad sign.
  • Who is the sponsoring registrar? Many hosts and registrars are actually reselling for one of the big name domain registrars, usually eNom or Tucows/OpenSRS. If your domain has a sponsoring registrar, sometimes you can contact them to get control of your domain name back. At the very least, they can sometimes give you more contact information for whoever has control of your domain.
  • What is the status of the domain? This will be something like “Ok”, “Active”, “Registrar-lock”, or “Pending deletion”.
  • When does the domain expire?

Whats The Difference Between A Domain Name Registrar And A Website Host

There are usually two parts to owning a website:

  • Your domain name
  • Your web hosting provider
  • When someone types your domain name into a web browser , the internet knows to serve your website files stored on your web host to that visitor. Thats because youve set up your DNS to associate your domain name with that web host .

Some companies like GoDaddy will offer both domain names and web hosting. More commonly, most people buy their domain name from one provider and get their web hosting from another company. And, yes, that means you will be billed for your domain name and your website hosting separately. Typical pricing for domain names ranges from $10 to $25 a year, and web hosting ranges from $10 to $50 a month.

Final takeaway: Dont be shy. Call your web host and registrar. Theyll be more than happy to educate you on how all this works. Also, calling late at night is a good idea because you wont have to wait on hold.

Domain privacy and security is as important to us as it is to you. Register The Web Address

If your preferred web address is available, you can register it at any one of over a dozen accredited registration organisations or their resellers. For a list of accredited domain name registrars, visit the Australian Domain Name Administrator’s website. These are organisations authorised by auDA to provide services to people who want to:

    • register a new web address
    • renew their existing address
    • make changes to their record.

    Choose The Right Web Address

In general the best web addresses:

    • reflect the name of your business
    • are three syllables or less, such as Yahoo!
    • are easy to remember, pronounce, spell and type
    • are alliterative, for example beyondblue and Firefox
    • are also available for registration via social media channels.

Some people argue a good web address is one that people are searching for online and come up in search engines, for example Melbourne plumbers. Use the tools to check high search terms.

Others argue a good web address will be unique or distinct, such as for Google so it stands out in a crowded market, and won’t have to compete for web traffic online because of searches for popular terms.

    Namecheap: Cheap Prices Decent Service

NameCheap is as cheap as the name suggests. They offer great deals starting at just $8.88 for most .com domains, with some more obscure extensions even being under a dollar. Their DNS isnt bad either, offering free WhoIs protection and a robust DNS provider thats easy to manage and transfer.

They have a bulk search option that lets you search up to 50 domain names at once, so if you have a whole list of ideas, you can enter them all in, see which ones might be taken, and check the prices for different TLDs.

They do offer managed WordPress hosting through EasyWP, though its probably best to go with a better WordPress provider and forward the domain to that site.

You only need to register for any of the web hosting plans that offer a free domain name. However, make sure the value is enough for you to buy the .com TLD.For example, if you sign up for Hostingers Premium or Business shared hosting plans, you will get a free domain for one year with the value equivalent of a .com TLD.

Verify The Ownership Of Your New Domain

The final step is to verify the domain ownership through the email address you used when registering the domain. The email usually arrives within a few minutes after finishing the domain setup. Simply click the verification link in the email to verify your contact information.

If the email doesnt arrive, resend the request from the control panel. We recommend doing it immediately, as waiting for 15 days or more will lead to a temporary suspension from the registry.

Thats all there is to it. Now you know how to buy a domain name and complete the initial registration process.

    Tip from Darius

To make the most out of your newly acquired domain, consider authorizing it with the Google Search Console. This will provide you with important analytical insights and make it easier for Google to crawl the content of your site.

First, log into your Google account and head to the Search Console page. If you want your entire domain to be crawled, enter the URL in the bar on the left. Once thats done, click Continue and youll be presented with a code. Then, copy it and do not close the tab.

Now, log into your Hostinger account, head to the hPanel, and on to the DNS Zone Editor. Under Manage DNS Records, select TXT as the Type. Unless youre only adding a specific subdomain to the Search Console, leave as the Name. Next, copy the code youve received previously as the TXT Value. We recommend leaving the TTL Value as the default. To finish it all off, click on Add Record.

I Bought A Domain Now What Exact Things To Do Next

    1. Get a hosting for your domain

The next thing to do after registering a domain is to buy hosting for it.

If you dont already know, let me explain you what a domain is and why you need hosting.

A domain is like your address to your offline retail store. And hosting is like the brick and mortar shop where you store your goods to sell . Got it?

Now for the hosting, there are dime a dozen hosting providers. Dont ever settle with a free hosting or something that is too good a deal to be true. These do more damage to you than good.

I recommend Bluehost hosting and easy to deal with. I am not a technical guy and when it comes to online business I want a resource/hosting I can turn to when I have a glitch. Bluehost never has let me down on this.

Their basic plan starts at $2.99/month.

    2. Connect Your Domain to Bluehost Hosting & Install WordPress on It

Now that you have bought the hosting, but you have your domain name bought elsewhere, all you need is to direct the domain name to point visitors to your hosting. You can easily do so by updating the DNS of the domain.

Ill share the step by step way to do so with Godaddy registered domain .

Here is how to point your Godaddy domain to Bluehost:

  • Login to your Godaddy domain
  • Select the domain from the list of domains you own.
  • Click on manage DNS on the end of the page.
  • Under the nameservers section, add the following each at a time:
  • ns1.bluehost.com
  • ns2.bluehost.com
  • 3. Design Your Blog
