How To Check Which Domains And Groups I Belong To

This Email Address Does Not Belong to the Domain as the Site

This is pertaining to Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, but probably may apply to other versions.

Question 1: How to find out preferably from CLI all the domains a user belongs to ?

Question 2: How to find out all the groups a user is a member of form a domain that this user is not currently logged to ?

  • Out of curiosity – up to how many domains do you expect a user to belong to in your setup?Jan 7 ’16 at 3:21
  • 5 different domains. Or rather 5 different accounts in 5 domains.

Due to group nesting, there isn’t an elegant way to get group membership of a user across all domains/forests. The best way would be to enumerate all groups within each domain and check membership recursively for the desired user.

I don’t have access to a domain joined system but the PowerShell code should look something like the following. Note that Get-ADGroup has max result limits which may need to be tweaked for your environment.

Import-Module ActiveDirectory$AllDomainGroups = Get-ADGroup -Server DomainController -LdapFilter ""$AllDomainGroups | % else  }

The following code can lookup if a user has an account on another domain controller and then display all groups that that user belongs to. If you repeat this code for each domain it may get you what you need.

You could modify this to take input or loop through a set of domains

Work Access Works Differently

Windows 10 offers another way for you to join a device to your organizations network and resources. This feature is called Work Access. Its intended for devices you personally own, but which need to be managed by your employer or school in some way. Its a more lightweight alternative to traditional Windows domains.

If you need to sign in to Azure AD or enroll in mobile device management with Work Access, youll still need to choose I own it during Windows 10s setup process. After you finishing setting up Windows 10, youll then need to visit the Settings screen and sign into a work or school account from there. You can add or remove these accounts at any time.

In other words, you dont need to say your organization owns the device to use these new Work Access features. Signing into an Azure AD domain and enrolling in a mobile device management server are things you can do while saying you own the device. Theyre also easy to undo later, unlike the process of joining a domain.

Yes, Azure AD is mentioned in both places. You can either join your device to an Azure AD domain or simply sign in to Azure AD on your own device. Windows 10 makes it possible to apply different policies to these different types of devices. Joining a domain is intended for devices your organization owns, while simply adding an Azure AD account is intended for devices you own.

Who Owns A Domain Name

A domain name is legally owned by a domain registrant. Whenever someone registers a domain name, the registrar will gather the registrants personal information and submit it to the WHOIS directory. With that in mind, if you register a domain name, you automatically become the registrant and will continue being so as long as you renew the fees.

Reverse Google Analytics Lookups

Google AdSense is only popular among content publishers but almost every website is using Google Analytics for traffic statistics. And there are online tools available that can quickly find all websites that are are connected to the same Google Analytics account.

Go to ewhois.com and type the domain name that are you are researching. Next choose the Reverse Google Analytics ID Lookup tab and it should bring a list of all web domains that are connected to the same Google Analytics ID.

This is the most effective option of them all though it would only work for live websites that use Analytics while standard Whois lookups can even find web domains that have only been registered but are not live yet.

Whys It Necessary To Have A Whois Database

The ability to find domain info quickly and accurately is important for a couple main reasons: 1. A WHOIS check is essential for people in the business of buying and selling domains. These individuals need a method of communication for their transactions. A WHOIS search will provide one or more methods for reaching the current owner of a web address. 2. The WHOIS database is a way to maintain accountability for people who operate online. For example, if you felt someone was using your trademarks on their website, the WHOIS database provides a number of ways to resolve that dispute.

How Is Whois Changing

In light of the General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR, coming into force within the European Union in May 2018, many Registries and Registrars that operate within that region, or globally, are required to gain Registrant’s consent before disclosing Personally Identifiable Information to any third parties or the public. As a result of the implementation of the GDRP, much of the data historically found within WHOIS will no longer be included or be redacted. The absence of this information has a trickle-down effect throughout the domain industry, affecting WHOIS data output for domain names and Registrants that do not have an immediate or obvious nexus to the European Union

Cctld: Country Code Top Level Domains

ccTLDs use just two letters and are based upon international country codes, such as .us for the United States and .jp for Japan. Theyre often used by companies that are building dedicated sites for specific regions and can be a good way of signaling to users that theyve arrived at the right place.

How Is The Gdpr Applicable To Webnamesca

Under Recital 23 of the GDPR, Webnames.ca claims no nexus with the EU, EEA nor the citizens of either, and therefore claims non-applicability of the GDPR to any and all aspects of its business.

Despite this, many of the domain Registries that Webnames is partnered with to provide domain extensions must comply fully with the GDPR. The changes to policies and procedures required of these partners will affect what information is collected, shared and displayed, and may result in changes to agreements and terms.

Notwithstanding, many domain Registries with whom Webnames.ca contracts must fully comply with the GDPR, and therefore these Registries may implement policies or procedures relating to WHOIS data which result in changes. These changes may include, but are not limited to,?variations in what WHOIS data is included and how it is displayed via the Webnames’s WHOIS lookup page.

Therefore, in regards to WHOIS output:

Where the domain Registry is the sole source of Registrant WHOIS data for the queried domain, the WHOIS data will be displayed by Webnames in whatever form it is received from the Registry, without alteration of any kind. This may result in some fields, particularly those containing Personally Identifiable Information being absent, blank or redacted.

What Is The Difference Between A Domain Name And A Website

Who Does This Belong To? Dr Dain Heer & Access Consciousness

A domain name refers to the address of a website. It is what people enter in the URL tab of their browsers to access a website. On the other hand, a website is made up of a collection of files, pages, data, and images. It is what people see and interact with from their browser screens. The bottom line is that one cant create a website without registering a domain name. Similarly, purchasing a domain doesnt automatically give you a functional website. If you want to use your domain name for a website, you will first need to build the website and connect it with your domain name.

Reverse Whois Lookups With Google

When you register a web domain, your name, contact address, phone number and other details are stored with the domain in a public registry database that anyone can access online using a Whois Lookup tool.

Go to whois.sc and enter the domain name that you are trying to research. This will provide you contact details of the domain registrant and you can then use this data to perform a reverse whois lookup on Google to find other domains of that person.

PHONE_NUMBER site:whois.domaintools.comSTREET_ADDRESS site:whois.domaintools.com

Gtld: Generic Top Level Domain

A gTLD is essentially a top-level domain that doesnt rely on a country code. Many gTLDs are intended for a specific use-case, such as .edu which is aimed at educational institutions. That said, you dont have to meet any specific criteria to register a gTLD, which is why a .com domain might not necessarily be used for commercial purposes.

Other examples of gTLDs include .mil , .gov , .org , and .net, which was originally designed for internet service providers but is now used more widely.

Do I Need A Domain For A Website

The answer is yes. A domain gives your website a unique and searchable address, making it accessible to internet users. Without a domain, your visitors would have to look for the IP address at which your website is hosted. Since an IP address consists of a string of numbers and characters, this can make it hard for your visitors to remember.Remember that choosing a simple yet memorable domain name can help create a professional first impression.

How To Register A Domain Name

Different name providers utilize different systems and so while this answer covers what the process typically looks like, it may differ slightly depending on the provider. For more in-depth coverage, you can check out our domain buying guide.

Youll usually start by running a domain name search. Most domain name providers will allow you to type in your desired domain name and see whether its available as well as registration price. Here on Hostinger, we also provide plenty of suggestions for other potential domain names, which can be useful when the domain that you searched for was already taken.

From there, its just a case of completing the checkout process and paying for your new domain name. Once its registered, youll be given access to a control panel with all the essential management tools.

Perform Reverse Ip Lookups

Some domain owners may have opted for private registration and in that case, their contact details wont be available in the public whois database.

The next option you should try is a Reverse IP lookup. These tools determine the IP address of the server that is hosting a website – example.com in our example – and will then provide you are list of other websites that are hosted on that same server. The logic is that if a person has multiple websites, he could be using the same web server to host them.

You can use Bing to perform a Reverse IP check for any domain or an even easier tool is spyonweb.com just put the sites domain and it will show other websites hosted on that server. If you get hundreds of domains in the search results, it possibly means that the person is using a shared host and thus he may not be the owner of all these domains.

The WHOIS service offered by NETIM and the access to the records in the WHOIS database are provided for information purposes only. It allows the public to check whether a specific domain name is still available or not and to obtain information related to the registration records of existing domain names. NETIM cannot, under any circumstances, be held liable in case the stored information would prove to be wrong, incomplete or not accurate in any sense. By submitting a query you agree not to use the information made available to: * allow, enable or otherwise support the transmission of unsolicited, commercial advertising or other solicitations whether via email or otherwise * target advertising in any possible way * to cause nuisance in any possible way to the registrants by sending messages to them.

Other Domain Name Types

The ‘Who Does This Belong To App’ introduced by Dr Dain Heer

While the above-mentioned domain name categories are the most frequent, there are other variations that you can run into.

Second-Level Domains

Youve probably seen these domain names before. Were talking about a domain that sits directly below a top-level domain name. Were not going to get too technical here because its easier to show with examples, particularly when it comes to country codes.

For example, British companies occasionally use .co.uk instead of .com, and its a perfect example of a second-level domain. Another second-level domain is .gov.uk, which is often used by governmental institutions, and .ac.uk, which is used by academic institutions and universities.

Subdomains

Subdomains are useful because they dont require webmasters to purchase an additional domain name to create divisions within their site. Instead, theyre able to create a subdomain that effectively points to a specific directory on the server. This can be super useful for campaign sites and other types of web content that should be kept separate from the main site.

For example, Facebook uses developers.facebook.com to provide specific information for web and app developers who want to use the Facebook API. Another great example is support.google.com

Free Domains

There are also free domain names that you can get from different website builders such as WordPress.com, Squarespace, Weebly, etc.
