A keyword rich domain name means a domain that contains the keywords matching the actual business. Suppose a businessman wants to build a mortgage related website, he would love to find domains that contain the word mortgage.

Consider Com Domain Extensions Only

You should buy .COM TLD as this is ideal for most businesses. If you are having a business online, most of the time your customers would assume that you are using a .COM domain, not any other extensions.

So most businesses would love buying .COM domains only. More than 48% of all domains that were sold last year were .COM domains.

You can even purchase several extensions and redirect them to .COM version using 301 redirect. But if you want to sell in a particular country only, consider country-specific domains like CO.UK for UK and CO.IN for India.

  • Find out what your domain is worth: Youll want to set a realistic price. One place to find out the sale prices of comparable domains is the free GoDaddy Domain Value and Appraisal tool. Just type in the domain you want to sell and you’ll learn the estimated value, and well as comparable domains sold. Even better, its all free.
  • Make communication easy: Be sure to un-privatize your contact information on WHOIS. That way, when an interested buyer looks up your domain on WHOIS, they can find your publicly available information and contact you directly.
  • Put out a “For Sale” sign: If you havent already, set up a single-page website on your domain, called a park page or domain parking. This page lets visitors know that the domain is owned and for sale. Its the simplest way to announce your domain is for sale. But to announce it far and wide, youll want to list your domain on some online marketplaces.
  • Sold: Once your domain has sold, if you havent listed it as a Premium Listing, youll want to make the final move using the Domain Transfer Tool here.
  • Never Sell Right Away

Domain flipping is not always about making quick cash. Sometimes you have to spend days in research before you make a profitable sale. Remember, it is better to wait for several months or years in order to sell a domain name for a greater profit than settle for normal profit. Think of domain flipping as more of an investment.

Many of the large marketplaces have repeat buyers and a so-called distribution network in which they partner with other websites such as registrars to put your domain name in front of potential buyers across the globe.

Sedo: operating since 2001 and with over 18 million domains listed, Sedo is one of the worlds largest domain marketplaces. The site itself reaches around 2 million visitors per month but they also promote your domain across a large number of partner sites. Listing your domain name for sale with Sedo is free but you pay a commision between 10 and 20% when your domain name sells.

Afternic: founded in 1999 and listing more than five million domain names available for sale and handling more than 75 million domain searches each month Afternic is a force to be reckoned with. Run Your Business As A Business

While you might not think of domain flipping as a business, it certainly is. And for that reason, you’ll want to run it just like any other business keeping track of your income and expenses.

As you acquire more and more domain names, your expenses will start to rise and you might start becoming less profitable. Try to keep your expenses low and cash flow positive to grow your business.

If you are working your business as a side hustle and don’t have a significant amount of time, you might consider hiring a VA to help you find valuable domain names.

    Purchase An Expired Domain

How to sell your domain name and communicating the price.

An expired domain is a domain in which the person or company that registered the domain stopped paying for it. After this occurs, the name will become expired and typically goes into an auction. You can then bid on expired domains to purchase.

Why would you want an expired domain name?

A few reasons. The first benefit is the name itself. It’s possible to find high-value domains that are expired.

The second reason you might consider purchasing an expired domain is because of its SEO value. Just because a domain name is expired, doesn’t mean the links pointing to that domain disappear. These links can be extremely powerful in terms of SEO. By redirecting the domain to another URL, you will pass a significant portion of the link juice to the new domain.

How can you measure the amount of link juice for an expired domain?

There are multiple tools you can use that all have metrics to determine the SEO value of a domain. Two of my favorite tools, Moz and Ahrefs both have scores that are associated with a domain rating how much link juice they have.

Moz first founded the term Domain Authority that aims to depict how easy it will be for your website or domain to rank in Google. The rank is on a 100 point scale with 100 being the highest rating available. The rating considers several factors including backlinks, domain age, and more.

So what is a good domain authority?

Word of warning: its not perfect.

You need to stay under the radar for at least a year and learn everything related to domain flipping before you can start selling domains for a profit.

The road to flipping domains for sums is not easy you need to climb a steep learning curve before you can become a pro.

    How To Buy Domain Names

The first thing you need to understand is how to get a domain registered. Back in the day, .com and .net were extremely popular as extensions. If you got in early and purchased some domains, you are sitting on a pile of cash because some of these domain names are worth a lot today.

Go to websites like Domain.com and GoDaddy.com. Search for the keywords or the exact name you want your domain to be. This search tells you whether the domain name is available or not. In case the domain name is available, you have the option of adding it to the shopping cart. If you plan to purchase the domain, you need to see for how long do you want to register. This time is generally in years. You also get the option of purchasing add-ons like domain privacy.
