Recovering An Expired Domain
You can recover an expired GoDaddy domain up to 25 days after it has expired. Log into your Account Manager from the main GoDaddy site and click Launch under Domains. Select Expired Domains from the Domains menu. Select the domains you wish to recover and click Recover. Go though the GoDaddy checkout process to reclaim the domain.

On the day it expires, your domain passes into what is known as the Auto-Renew Grace Period, which lasts roughly 40 days at Porkbun. For the first 36 or 37 days of this period, the domain can still be renewed for its normal renewal price with no extra fees. Please note that other registrars may have an Auto-Renew Grace Period as short as zero-days or as long as 45 days.
For the first 10 days of the Auto-Renew Grace Period, your domain should continue to function as normal. We understand that problems can occur with the payment, so we allow 10 days to remedy any failed payments, etc.
On the 10th day, Porkbun’s nameservers will be automatically assigned and your domain will display a notice to any visitors that it has expired.
For days 30-31 through 36-37, the domain is put up for auction through Dynadot. You may still renew the domain during this time at the standard renewal fee. However, if you fail to take any action and the domain is purchased at auction, it will be transferred to the winner at the end of this auction period.
For the next three days after the auction period, if the domain was not purchased at auction, you may still renew at the standard renewal fee.
From days 70-71 through 74-75, it will be marked “Pending Delete” and can no longer be redeemed. Once your domain is marked Pending Delete, theres no turning backthe domain may be lost forever.

When you register a domain name, you’re able to use it for the period of time you registered it for, which is typically between one to ten years. If you want to keep using the domain name and any of the services associated with it you need to renew the domain name registration prior to its expiration.
The Domain Goes To Auction
On day 26, if the domain name has been unsuccessful in its renewal attempts, it will go to auction where other interested parties have the opportunity to bid on it. At this point in the process, the registrant only has until day 30 to redeem the expired domain.
If a new owner is found, the domain in question will be sent to a GoDaddy holding account where the original owner is no longer able to redeem their expired domain name. Most expired domain names go to the auction house for a 10-day expired auction period.
At this point, one of two things will happen:
1. The domain is awarded
The auction period will close on day 36, and if a winning bid is deemed, the domain will go into a seven-day wait period for the process to finalize before being awarded to the new owner.
2. No bids are made
If no bids are made and a backorder was placed on the domain in question, it is awarded to the person who purchased the backorder. If no one bids on the domain during the closeout period, the domain name is sent back to the registry. Rather than wait for the domain to be re-released to the public for general registration at a later date, the original owner can attempt to reclaim the domain within 30 days by calling customer support.
