Things To Consider When Transferring
Most domain providers cut access to their nameservers as soon as a transfer is initiated. If you rely on your current domain providers nameservers for custom DNS records , you need to prepare your domain before transferring. Failure to do so can lead to a loss of service until the transfer completes.
Domain transfers will fail if:
- The domain name is locked.
- The domain name was registered or transferred in the past 60 days .
- The authorization code provided is invalid.
- The domain name is in redemption .
- There is an unresolved domain dispute.
Transfers can take between five-seven days to complete.

- Domain is not more than 60 days old or has been transferred within the last 60 days.Per ICANN regulations, a domain that has been newly registered or transferred from one Registrar to another within the last 60 days is not eligible for transfer.

Email Connected To A Domain Complicates The Decision
If you have an email account associated with your domain, that email account will no longer be active when you begin the transfer process, meaning your business won’t have access to email until the transfer is complete. You will need to create a new email account after the transfer. To have domain email through Squarespace or Weebly, you will purchase a monthly subscription of their built-in Google G Suite email plan.
You may be able to back up email from your previous email provider and restore the messages if your new and old email systems are compatible, but you need to ask your current domain provider in advance, before you initiate any transfer process, to make sure this is the case.
For clients who already have email through a third-party domain registrar, I generally recommend they connect their domains to avoid the disruption of losing active email accounts.

Since you are not using HostGators name servers, when you make domain-related changes in your hosting control panel, the DNS does not automatically get updated. You would have to manually change the DNS records on your name servers to match whatever you set up in the hosting control panel.
