How to Move / Transfer Domain FROM GoDaddy to Another Host (Namecheap)

Before continuing with the domain transfer, keep in mind that when a domain name is transferred away, the nameservers associated with your domain stay the same during its transfer from one registrar to the other. For example: if your domain name is using the default nameservers of GoDaddy, those nameservers will be preserved during the domain transfer, and thus you will not be able to change the nameservers until the transfer is complete.

This means that if you switched to another web hosting provider and your website was already migrated, make sure that your domain name is pointed to the new hosting provider before initiating a domain transfer. Again, you wont be able to change the nameservers until the domain transfer is complete.

Domain Name Registration and Web Hosting are separate services. The domain name transfer process will not migrate your website automatically. If you are a FastComet customer and you wish to transfer your website from GoDaddy, please submit a migration request from your client area. Our transfer experts will move your existing sites and emails free of charge, seamlessly, and with no downtime.

Special Offer:Once the domain name transfer is completed you can take advantage of our special offer. We will renew your domain for one year free of charge.

How To Transfer Your Domain From Godaddy To Bluehost

1. Open domain settings Login to Godaddy and visit the Products page. Then, choose the domain name you wish to transfer and click on Manage

2. Check Your Whois Contact Information Next, you should check that your domain contact information is correct. This is important because Godaddy will send a unique to your Whois email address, and that code will be needed to complete the domain transfer. If you need to update your contact information in Godaddy you can see how to do that here.

3. Disable Privacy Domain Protection If youve purchased domain privacy then youll want to disable it before initiating the transfer. From the Domain Control Center, select your domain and scroll down to Privacy Settings, then select Turn Privacy Off.

4. Change Name Servers When transferring a domain its important to have as little downtime as possible. If your domain servers need to be changed to Bluehost then we recommend doing this before you initiate the transfer. NOTE: If your nameservers are already pointing to Bluehost or your desired web hosting provider then you do not need to change them.

5. Unlock Domain Name Next, you need to unlock the domain. You can do this by switching your locking status from ON to OFF. Once this is done, it can take 2-5 minutes for it to update.

All You Need To Know About Godaddy

GoDaddy was launched in the year 1997. Since then it has been a fast-growing Domain registrar that allows users to register their websites under any Domain Name of their choice for a nominal price.

Developed and designed by Bob Parsons, the platform is an open-source and a publicly owned internet platform. It also offers website hosting and web development tools to amateurs.

GoDaddy was ranked the number one ICANN certified Domain registrar. It currently hosts over 61 million Domains and caters to about 14 million customers. The website builder, however, is not included in any of the hosting plans. Users can check out the free trial version, though there arent many features and functions.

GoDaddy provides its users with an easy-to-use navigation system. It also has a very responsive tech support that can be reached via phone. It guarantees 99.99% server uptime and uses the redundant UPS powered N+1 conditioning for round-the-clock server monitoring & protection.

Plus, the advanced SSL certifications, SiteLock Malware Scanners and Cloud auto-backups take care of all the web development functions, leaving you with ample time to focus on creating quality content.

Do I Have To Redirect Every Url From My Old Site

Transfer Domain from GoDaddy to Google Domains

    Not necessarily.

Heres the rule: redirect every URL that has a clear corresponding page on the new site. 404 everything else.

    Whats a 404?

That just means removing the page so that your site returns a 404 message any time someone tries to access that URL. It tells people that theres nothing there.

A few years ago, I was very anti-404. I used to think that every single URL needed a proper redirect and I went a bit overboard on a site. Eventually, our hosting provider reached out and told us that we had too many redirects on our site we needed to cut them down to 1,500. We had about 2,500 at the time.

They were right, we did have too many. I was paranoid about trying to help users land on the right page. I was also worried about losing any traffic from Google and I thought 404s might reduce our rankings. I was wrong on both counts.

First, users struggle a lot more with weird redirect paths than a 404. A 404 gives a super clear message: the page youre looking for doesnt exist. A weird redirect is really tough for a user to understand.

Second, Google prefers 404s for pages that no longer exist. Its a clear signal for them and they dont reduce rankings for sites that have 404s. Theyve publicly stated numerous times how they only want sites to add redirects for pages that have a one-to-one relationship.

Backup Your Cpanel Account At Your Current Host

The next step is to access your cPanel account on your current host and make a backup of all your files. This is a simple process that will usually only take a few minutes to complete, although it could take a little longer if your site has a large amount of data.

To complete this step, simply follow these instructions:

  • Access the backup wizard: The step is to go to the Files section of cPanel and click on the backup wizard. This brings you to the area where you can perform full backups of your site.
  • On this page, select the option to create a backup and then pick what you need to be backed up. Typically, you want your home directory, which includes all files under that directory and all your MySQL databases used for your site.
  • Add email information if needed: If you have created email accounts and forwarders for your site, you can add them into the backed-up data as well if you want them moved over.
  • Select relevant domains: If you have more than one site that youre transferring over to GoDaddy, you can choose to make backups of all of them at this time. Skip this step if youre only moving one site over.
  • Once the backup program has run, make a note of where it placed the backup files. Its generally best to have the backup file stored on your PC to be uploaded easily to GoDaddy in the next step.

How To Initiate An Authorization Code Transfer

I have a website I created on go daddy. Is there a way to transfer from godaddy to Shopify with out starting all over?

While you can most definitely transfer your GoDaddy domain to Shopify, Im afraid its not possible to transfer over the GoDaddy website you created. This is because Shopify websites are built on a unique code language called Liquid.

Instead, youll just need to select a theme from our Theme Store, where youll find a collection of both free and premium themes. Once you choose a theme, you can use our user-friendly Theme Editor to easily customize the content and structure of your pages. This should help you achieve something pretty similar to what you currently have with GoDaddy. As you begin your search for a theme, we also have a blog post, How to Pick the Perfect Theme for Your Shopify Store you might find useful. This post provides a good overview of the Shopify Theme Store and how you can use search and filter tools to find the right theme for your store.

Once youve selected a theme, I recommend checking out our YouTube tutorial, Introduction to the Shopify Theme Editor. This will teach you everything you need to know about how to modify your theme, from adding and removing sections to changing the fonts and colour scheme. Its also a great resource if youve never used our Theme Editor before.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

    • ICANN charges a mandatory annual fee of $0.18 for each domain registration, renewal or transfer. This will be added to the listed price for some domains, at the time of purchase. See full list of affected domains
    • You’ll receive a domain privacy subscription FREE with every eligible domain registration or transfer. Your subscription is provided by Withheld for Privacy and the services agreement it holds with Namecheap. Terms and conditions apply. • If you have renewed your domain within the last 45 days: The one-year extension normally added to the domain during a transfer may not be included. This situation occurs only if the domain actually expired before you renewed it with your previous registrar. How To Move A Site From Godaddy To Bluehost

The process of transferring a site from GoDaddy to BlueHost involves moving the domain name and site files. Depending on your sites configuration, it may also involve moving a database. Moving a database will be necessary if you use a content management system like Drupal, Joomla or WordPress, or any other system that uses a database. With basic static sites, however, moving the sites files is enough to get you up and running when making the switch.
