Transfer My Domain To Another Godaddy Account

You can transfer a domain name from your GoDaddy account to another GoDaddy account so long as the domain is eligible. Domains aren’t eligible for an account transfer if they’re pending a contact update approval, within one day of expiration, expired or already pending a transfer.

Domains transferred to another account will keep all existing DNS settings, but any connected products, such as a website or email, do not transfer with the domain.

  • Sign in to your GoDaddy Transfers page.
  • Select the checkboxes next to the domains you’ll be transferring. Or, select the checkbox next to Domain and then choose Select All or Select Current Page.
  • Select Continue.
  • Enter the new account owner’s email address and then enter it again to verify.
  • Enter the new account owner’s customer number.
  • If you enter a customer number, the email address you entered must match the email address on the account for that customer number.
  • Choose if you want to copy current contact info for eligible domains to the new account.
  • Select Send Transfer Request.
  • If your domain has Domain Protection, you’ll need to verify your identity. If you’ve had two-step verification turned on for at least 24 hours, enter the code we sent via SMS, or enter the code from your authenticator app. Otherwise, enter the one-time password we sent to your registrant email address.

What Are The Requirements On The Aws Side

    • First of all, your domain should have been registered in your current registrar at least 60 days ago. It does not matter whether you bought, renewed, or transferred the same applies, and this action should have also been at least 60 days ago.

    • Your domain TLD should be supported on AWS. Our domain has .com TLD, but if it had an unsupported TLD such as .com.tr, we would not be able to move it to AWS.

    • Some top-level domain names cannot be transferred until some changes, such as domain name owner, are completed. Your domain name should not be one of them.

If you have a regular .com domain name that you bought it at least 60 days ago and it has a valid status, you should be fine.

    • Your domain should not be locked for transfer, pending for transfer, delete, or in redemption period.

Now, we need to connect to our GoDaddy account and unlock the transfer for our domain.

Do I Have To Redirect Every Url From My Old Site

Migrate GoDaddy Domain and DNS to AWS Route 53

    Not necessarily.

Heres the rule: redirect every URL that has a clear corresponding page on the new site. 404 everything else.

    Whats a 404?

That just means removing the page so that your site returns a 404 message any time someone tries to access that URL. It tells people that theres nothing there.

A few years ago, I was very anti-404. I used to think that every single URL needed a proper redirect and I went a bit overboard on a site. Eventually, our hosting provider reached out and told us that we had too many redirects on our site we needed to cut them down to 1,500. We had about 2,500 at the time.

They were right, we did have too many. I was paranoid about trying to help users land on the right page. I was also worried about losing any traffic from Google and I thought 404s might reduce our rankings. I was wrong on both counts.

First, users struggle a lot more with weird redirect paths than a 404. A 404 gives a super clear message: the page youre looking for doesnt exist. A weird redirect is really tough for a user to understand.

Second, Google prefers 404s for pages that no longer exist. Its a clear signal for them and they dont reduce rankings for sites that have 404s. Theyve publicly stated numerous times how they only want sites to add redirects for pages that have a one-to-one relationship.
