As the G Suite administrator, you may not want others in your organization to be able to purchase new domains.

You can turn off this feature for all people in the organization, or you can assign it to only certain people. Sign in to the Google Admin console as an administrator to start the process. Click Apps > Additional Google Services > Google Domains to access your options for turning off domain access.

Verifying Your Domain Name For Google Workspace

To sign up for Google Workspace and start using its services, you must first own a verified domain. This ensures that no one is using your domain name for Google services without your permission. Note that, if you bought your domain name from a Google partner when signing up for Google Workspace, its already verified.

If you have no clue about the verification process, do not worry. Google Workspace has a setup wizard with instruction on how to verify your domain name based on your domain host.

Choosing The Right Mapping

As noted at the beginning of this article, there is no single best way to mapthe structures of Active Directory and Google Cloud. To help you choose theright mapping for your scenario, the following decision graphs summarize thecriteria that were discussed in the previous sections.

Add An Mx Record For Email

Before you begin: If users already have email with your domain , create their accounts in the admin center before you set up your MX records. That way, theyâll continue to receive email. When you update your domain’s MX record, all new email for anyone who uses your domain will now come to Microsoft 365. Any email you already have will stay at your current email host, unless you decide to migrate email and contacts to Microsoft 365.

You’ll get the information for the MX record from the admin center domain setup wizard.

On your hosting provider’s website, add a new MX record.Make sure that the fields are set to the following values:

  • Record Type: MX
  • Points to address: Copy the value from the admin center and paste it here.
  • TTL: 3600

Save the record, and then remove any other MX records.

Multiple Forests Without Cross

In the environment illustrated here, it’s not possible to authenticate oraccess resources across the forest boundaries. It’s also not possible for asingle AD FS instance or fleet to handle single sign-on requests for usersfrom all forests.

Therefore, it’s not possible to map multiple forests that lack cross-foresttrusts to a single Cloud Identity or Google Workspace account.Instead, each forest must be mapped to a separate Cloud Identity orGoogle Workspace account, which involves running at least oneGoogle Cloud Directory Sync instance and one AD FS server or fleet perforest.

In Google Cloud, a separate organization is created for eachCloud Identity or Google Workspace account. In most cases, youdon’t need to maintain multiple, separate organizations. You can select one ofthe organizations andassociate itwith the other Cloud Identity or Google Workspace accounts,effectively creating an organization that is federated with multiple ActiveDirectory forests. The other organizations remain unused.

How to manage your domain email through Googlemail / Gmail

In an Active Directory forest, DNS domains are used in multiple places:

  • Active Directory DNS domains: Each Active Directory domain correspondsto a DNS domain. This domain might be global, like, orcan be a local domain name like corp.local or corp.internal.
  • Mail exchange domains: Email addresses use a DNS domain. Insome cases, this domain is the same as the Active Directory DNS domain, butin many cases, a different, often shorter, domain such as isused. Ideally, users in Active Directory have the email addressthat is associated with the optional mail attribute.
  • UPN suffix domains: These domains are used for User Principal Names. By default, the Active Directory DNS domain of the user’s domainis used to build a UPN. For a user john in the, the default UPN therefore reads, you can configure a forest to use additional DNS domains as UPNsuffixes that correspond to neither Active Directory DNS domains nor MXdomains. UPNs are optional and are stored in the userPrincipalName fieldof the user.
  • Endpoint domains: Public-facing servers such as AD FS servers areusually assigned a DNS name, such as Thedomain that is used for these purposes can overlap with the MX, UPN suffix,or Active Directory DNS domain, or it can be an entirely different domain.

    If you already have a domain through another provider or through Google Domains, you can merge it with G Suite.

    Start by entering the name in the wizard when requested. The G Suite wizard then will verify that you own the domain and have the right to use it. You may have to enter some information about your domain to complete the verification process.

    G Suite may attempt to figure out who hosts your existing domain, opening your login page for your domain management. Otherwise, you may have to edit your DNS settings on your domain management page to allow it to mesh with G Suite.
