The first step is to create a Public Hosted Zone for your domain on Amazon Route 53 if you dont have it yet. To do this, access to AWS console and go to Route 53 -> Hosted zones -> Create Hosted Zone. You can harness this step to add some DNS entries if you need them, such as A records that point to your website or SPF record as a security measure to prevent the email addresses within your domain from being spoofed or your messages from being considered as spam.

“Calling this a planner is an understatement! It’s a masterclass in marketing!”

Todays post is a click by click tutorial to show you how to connect your cPanel domain based email to your Gmail account.

Having a name@yourdomain.com email will help you to look more professional in your business. It also is necessary if youre using an email newsletter account like MailChimp to increase deliverability of your newsletters. But checking multiple email accounts is time-consuming and can be overwhelming.

We have too many accounts to deal with already, between our email, texts, Facebook messages, social media, voice mail, etc! So lets streamline it all and have the emails in one place.

Some Important Notes About This Method

While the Gmail part of this method is 100% free, there are some caveats to this method in that youll need to already have email hosting to make it work. Typically, you would get this through your web host if you have a website.

For example, if you host your website with Bluehost, Bluehost also helps you create your own custom email address as part of its service .

If you dont own a domain, heres a quick tool you can use to find out if the domain name youre interested in is available:

Once you set up your email address with Bluehost, the method in this tutorial would let you use Gmail to send/receive those emails at no extra cost. Unfortunately, already having this email hosting is a basic requirement for the free method.

For both creating your website and setting up the custom email account to use with Gmail, we recommend Bluehost. Plans start at just $2.75 per month and that includes hosting your website, hosting your email account, plus a free domain name.

If you dont need a website, another option would be to purchase email hosting through your domain registrar. For example, if you registered your domain through Namecheap, Namecheap sells a cheap email hosting service starting at just $0.79 $0.46 per month.

For the rest of this tutorial, well use Bluehost for our example screenshots. However, the same basic principles will apply to any host the interface will just be a little different.

Why Use A Custom Domain For My Email Address

A custom domain email address is one of the more important parts of building a brand for your pro website.

Weve seen plenty of bloggers and new businesses using generic Gmail addresses and thats easy enough to understand Gmail is free, easy to use, and everyone already has one.

But if youre in the process of creating your pro website, its really easy to get a professional email address using your websites domain name from your web hosting provider at no extra cost to you.

Can I Switch My Free Business Email Account To Another Provider If Needed

How to setup a custom email address using your own domain name with Google

Yes, you need to first setup a professional email account using the steps mentioned above. Then you can use email forwarding to auto-forward any incoming emails to your Gmail, Yahoo, or other free email accounts to your newly created custom domain email address.

You can then use the new business email to correspond with clients while ensuring that any messages to your old email account are also received in the new account.

Allow Gmail To Send Emails Using Smtp

At this point, new emails to your custom domain should show up in your Gmail account. However, you wont be able to reply to them from your custom email domain yet.

To fix that, you need to configure your Gmail account to send through your custom emails SMTP server. Typically, youll find your emails SMTP server information at the same spot where you found the POP3 information:

Once you have your SMTP information:

  • Go back to the Accounts and Import area in your Gmail accounts settings.
  • Find the Send mail as setting.
  • Click Add another email.
  • This will open another popup window that has multiple steps.

    On the first screen:

    • Enter the custom email address that youre using.
    • Check the box for Treat as an alias.

Next, enter the SMTP information from your email host:

    • SMTP Server and Port from your email host.
    • Username normally, this is your full email address, but sometimes its only the part that comes before @.
    • Password the password that you set when creating your custom email address.
    • Choose whichever Secured connection method that Gmail recommends.
    • Click Add Account.

Gmail will then send a confirmation code to your custom email address. You need to click the link in that email and click Confirm to finish the process.

Since you already configured Gmail to receive emails from your custom domain name, you should be able to receive this email from your Gmail account. It might take a few minutes for Gmail to fetch the email from your server.

Option 2 Sign Up For Google Workspace

While the first option will save you some money, I do recommend just instead. Its much simpler and more reliable than the first option listed above. In addition to using Gmail with your domain email, youll have access to tons of extra features that make it easier to collaborate, store documents, share files, and even add or remove user accounts for other people on your team that use your domain name in their email addresses:

    • For example, I have multiple @thedigitalnonprofit.com emails that I can use depending on the situation, like info@thedigitalnonprofit.com, jason@thedigitalnonprofit.com, etc.
    • And when I hired a contractor, it took 2 seconds to give them a name@thedigitalnonprofit.com email so we presented a consistent brand
    • During the contract, I could make files & events shareable with all our employees to easily collaborate
    • Finally, when the contract ended, I could freeze their accounts with 1 click so my info is safe

All of those benefits were possible because I had Google Workspace. They actually offer a 14-day free trial so you get a better sense of what its like to use all their features. In addition, they provide promo codes that help save 10% off for the year.

To receive an exclusive 10% coupon for Google Workspace, submit your email address under the plan thats best suited for you.

Get 10% OFF your 1st year of Google Workspace & first 14 days completely free

Enter your email below to get your coupon code! Google requires that we send them individually.

Is An Email Domain The Same As A Website Domain

How to Create Custom Gmail Email With Your Own Domain Name?

The URL is called. The internet pages associated with our business start with “www.mail.com/”. You can tell the difference between an email domain and a website by the way they are formatted. The purpose of the website address is to identify the server that the website is stored on.

A domain name is a web address used to access websites.

A domain name is a unique name that can be used to identify a website or email account. There are two examples of domain names. Only one person or organization can have rights to a given domain. Registering a domain name gives you the rights to use it, not creating a website.

The name of a website is simply a domain name. It’s what comes after “@” in an email address or “www” in a web address. When someone asks how to find you online, you usually tell them your domain name.

You can register a domain name that is not currently owned by the company that sells it. If you want to find out if a domain name is available and how much it will cost, you should use a simple search.

To get to this location, you need to register a domain. Go Daddy is an accredited organization that facilitates the registration of domains to the public. The person who register a domain is called the registrant.

If the registration fee is not paid, the domain will be lost and the registration fee will be paid.

How do I get a domain name? You can purchase a domain name from one of the popular domain name registrars.
