Probably this is the most wanted situation on how to Custom Domain Name for Google Sites. There are two ways :

Adding a Custom Domain Name for Google Sites through Domain Registers control panel : If you add the url as content to point towards that Google Site, it can be easily pointed. However, not all control panel has this feature.

How Custom Google Sites Domains Work

There are two ways you can have your own customized domain name that points to your Google Sites website.

  • Select a domain from Google Domains: If you purchased your own domain through , youll see an option in the process below to choose that domain through the wizard.
  • Use a domain from a third party: If you purchased your domain through another registrar like GoDaddy, youll need to choose the third party option in the wizard.

In this guide, youll learn how to step through the process to link your domain, regardless of where you registered it, to your Google Sites website.

Note: You cant link any domain that you dont own to your Google Sites website. If you want to link a friends domain to your site, youll need to get permission from them and assist you with the steps to verify ownership.

When To Add A Root Domain Or Subdomain

If your custom domain doesnt have a functioning website published on it, you can use the root domain for your landing page or website built in MailerLite. For example, my-domain.com.

If your custom domain already has a functioning website published on it, you can still add it, but you will have to add it with a subdomain because a root domain cannot be connected to more than one page. For example, subdomain.my-domain.com.

We use only use my-domain.com and subdomain.my-domain.com for example purposes only. You should not use them and use your own custom domain instead.

Note: A subdomain like www might override the content on your existing domain. We recommend using this type of subdomain only if you don’t have any websites currently on your root domain.

Check The Published Site’s Sharing Settings Are Set To Public

If your site redirects to the sites.google.com URL or asks visitors to sign in then your published site’s sharing settings are not set to public – here is how to make your new Google Site public to anyone on the internet:

  • Open your new Google Site for editing

  • In the Links section use the Change… link

  • For the link choose the Public option and use the Done button.

  • If you can’t see the Public option for the Published site then the most likely scenario is you use Google Workspace and your Google Workspace admin has restricted public sharing – you need to talk to your Google Workspace admin on how to change this – see Set Drive users’ sharing permissions.

    If you do want your site to be private then the custom URL will always redirect to the sites.google.com URL – this is by design.

    If youre willing to pay, another way to use Gmail with your own domain name is to pay for , formerly called G Suite.

    Some Important Notes About This Method

    While the Gmail part of this method is 100% free, there are some caveats to this method in that youll need to already have email hosting to make it work. Typically, you would get this through your web host if you have a website.
