How To Get An Email Address On Your Custom Domain Name

You probably have Gmail or some other free email account already. While that email is perfectly fine, it might not look very good when used for any sort of professional purpose.

For example, its easy to imagine how emailing business contact john.smith987@gmail.com might not be optimal. A much better alternative is to set up a custom email address under your own domain name if you happen to own a domain name already .

Most domain providers offer a hosting plan, but you do have the option of connecting your domain to an entirely different hosting provider. There are a few things youll want to consider when choosing your email and web hosting service:

  • Do they have a secure platform with strong security?
  • How much storage capability do they have?

Your email hosting provider will deal with the backend of your email address, so you dont have to do this manually. They will help you deal with incoming emails and communicate with the rest of the web to ensure files are sent and received properly.

My Personalized Email Address Is Not Receiving Or Sending Mail

Go to and select the diamond icon on the toolbar to open the premium section of Outlook settings.

  • If you don’t see a diamond icon in your inbox , it means your Microsoft 365 subscription has expired. Go to to re-activate your subscription, then reconnect your domain using the steps in “Get started”.

  • If you don’t see a “Personalized email address” tab underneath “Features” and “Security”, it means your personalized email address was removed from Outlook.

  • If you originally set up the domain, your Microsoft 365 Family subscription likely expired. Go to to re-activate your subscription, then reconnect your domain using the steps in “Get started”.

  • If someone shared a Microsoft 365 Family subscription with you, their subscription may have expired, or they may have removed the domain from Outlook. Contact the owner of the Microsoft 365 Family subscription and ask them to reconnect the domain.

  • If the “Personalized email address” tab has a red status bar, your domain may have expired. Confirm with GoDaddy that your domain is still active.

  • If your domain is active with GoDaddy, select Cancel setup and refresh your browser window. Then go to Premium> Features and select Get started.

  • How To Add Email Forwarding

    You do not have to set up a forwarder from your domain email address to your Gmail address but it should provide faster delivery of new mail to Gmail. Before you configure Gmail, you should create an email forwarder.

    Return to the cPanel and create an email forwarder from your custom domain email address to your Gmail address.

  • Under the Email & Office tab, find the Forwarders section.
  • Click the Add Domain Forwarder button.
  • Now all emails to will be forwarded to your Gmail account.

    Youre done with the web configuring part and now it is time to get everything into Outlook. This is an easy process by using Auto Account Setup.

    Depending on your version of Outlook, youll get one of the dialogs below.

    When you get this screen, fill out your email address and press the Connect button. When youve already stored your credentials for this account in Windows, the account will be added directly. If not, youll get prompted for your password. When you have Two-Step Verification enabled for your Outlook.com or Microsoft Account, then youll also be prompted for additional confirmation such as by entering a code obtained via an SMS text message or the Authenticator app.

    When you get the dialog shown above, fill out your name, email address and password. When you have Two-Step Verification enabled for your Outlook.com or Microsoft Account, then youll have to use a special App Password instead of your regular password.
